Dissidia
would get more respect if it had made a bigger splash. Being on the PS3
instead of the PSP would have gotten it a lot more hype, but it didn't
really need it. It could have done something for a few FF characters if
it didn't come and go with little fanfare. Then again, I guess GameFAQs did get into it -- http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/home/939394.html --- the journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step |

like
900 of those votes were before the US version was even out. I don't
think Dissidia made much of an impact at all; I've never seen someone
argue over tiers or their favourite character or anything like that.
I'm sure it exists but not to a notable degree. --- xyzzy |

The
people who'd buy Dissidia are probably already people who vote for FF
characters in contests. Dissidia's not like Crisis Core, which brought
a minor character from FF7 into the limelight and fleshed him out
enough to get him his own legitimate fans. It's a bunch of already
strong and weak characters who won't gain much strength, if any, from
it, and frankly even if it was on the PS3, 360, and Wii I don't think
it'd be a huge boost for the characters involved. Not that it wouldn't
be ****ing hilarious to see Kefka boosted to Zack-level. As for the fourpack, Squall > Auron > Tifa > Sora. I'd pick Squall over Auron 1v1 just because Squall's the main character of the game that came after FF7 and stands out a bit more. Tifa would hold her own, but I think Sora would get crushed and would struggle to get 15%. I also think Mega Man would beat him with an easy 55%. The kid's got ****. You know what match I want to see? Mario/Luigi. --- http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2uf7sro&s=4 |

Without the context of a fourway, especially without Mega Man X mucking things up. It just seems like a Mario/Luigi match would be unpredictable, from Luigi being anywhere from reenacting SFF'd Ganondorf to pulling a Shadow on his brother. The winner would be obvious, but the results wouldn't be. --- http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2uf7sro&s=4 |
HaRRicH | Posted 11/23/2009 8:59:23 PM | message detail |
Eh,
we've seen Mario double Bowser and Luigi before. I know Yoshi has won
the Mario-polls, but Yoshi's still in their range contest-wise and it's
not like Yoshi's been resistant to SFF from Link or Mega Man in the
past. I can't see him having that magical rSFF-power against only
Mario, especially one-on-one. I trust most character-polls as fairly
reliable at least for rank, but not the Mario-polls or Sonic-poll
because of Yoshi/Knuckles; I don't think Knuckles has even a hint of a
chance at beating Sonic, so I can't consider Yoshi to pull that one out
either. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

HaRRicH | Posted 11/23/2009 9:29:12 PM | message detail |
I'm
sure he doesn't -- he wouldn't have to drop as much as Yoshi did to
lose to Sonic and Sega's tried to replace Knuckles with Shadow while
giving him lame digging missions. Interestingly though, the Sonic-poll
was actually asking for who your favorite Sonic Adventure character was. I don't think that matters much, but it's kinda weird to think Knuckles won a poll like that. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

Cid Highwind Leon Kennedy Ryu Hayabusa Kratos Zero Vivi Master Chief Charizard Gordon Freeman Red I dunno. Nothing looks right to me. I think Hayabusa will do pretty well as long as he stays away from Snake! He beat Zero fair and square last year. Zero's just a shell of his former self. Vivi could beat him since it was so close last year, but I'll give Zero the benefit of the doubt there. Master Chief...I just dunno what to think of that guy. --- "Stay with me until the end. Please." "Not until the end. Always." |
HaRRicH | Posted 11/24/2009 11:33:16 AM | message detail |
Yeah, the whole pack feels weird -- they should all be pretty close together. Cid Highwind Gordon Freeman Master Chief Leon Kennedy Kratos Ryu Hayabusa Vivi Zero Charizard Pokemon Trainer Red The Pokemon-characters are the biggest wildcards to me, but I don't really know which one I'd take to be more popular and being just below Zero isn't bad at all for newcomers. I know we saw Hayabusa > Zero > Vivi last year, but Zero/Vivi was nearly even last year and we're closing in on a new major FF-game while Zero goes another year with nothing, so I'll give him the edge this time. I just can't see Gordon losing to MC in a poll on the internet, especially since it should be very close -- that match would get rallied. That said, I don't really like having Gordon THAT high on my list...or Cid at the top. I dunno if Cid could beat Red any worse than 55-45 though, so it's an expected cluster****. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

I've
been calling for Charizard/Tidus to be a good match for awhile and Vivi
narrowly beat Tidus in 2007, so I'm rolling with that for now. I think
he'll do better than Mewtwo, but going much past Tidus puts him closer
to Pikachu than I'm comfortable doing. Afterall, this isn't the first
NRT-champion from Pokemon that many thought would be the bad-ass from
the series to compete with Pikachu. It's already a good credit to him
that I'd consider him over Mewtwo. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

played Pokemon Blue, so I'm not familiar with any Pokemon beyond the

As for Ryu H./Zero, I don't think Zero would have lost that match if there hadn't been two Brawl characters there. What does Brawl have to do with it? Dedede and Pit have nothing in common with Zero. In fact, Hayabusa seems to be affected by Brawl more than Zero (Okay, just Snake, but still!). By the way, BT still owes me an account closure for my impeccable Snake prediction in Snake/Zero/Vivi/Hayabusa. --- "So cold. I am always by your side." What does Brawl have to do with it? Sorry, I meant to say Nintendo there. Which actually does make some sense; all the old Mega Man games were on Nintendo systems. I
don't think the GameSpot contest is going to have the same effect on
the Character Battle that the Villains Contest did on the following
Character Battle, but I could be wrong. He looked fine in '06 and '07, and Mega Man didn't fall off noticeably. I dunno if I agree with that. Zero was a favorite on this board (if I recall correctly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong) to beat Luigi in 2006, and he was beaten pretty handily (Not a blowout, but the outcome was never in doubt either). He looked fine in 2007, I guess, but I think his closeness to Crono in round 2 was more an indictment of Crono than a compliment of Zero's strength. He looked pretty bad in round 3, but you can blame that on Last Place Factor, Link, or whatever. And keep in mind that he did beat Hayabusa pretty handily in 2005 (with 63% I believe), so Nintendo LFF or not (and with Dedede and Pit, I wouldn't expect it to be significant), to go from 63% to losing is pretty bad. Mega Man looked pretty bad in 2006 as well. He bled like crazy to Axel with the ASV, couldn't beat Ryu worse than Bowser did, gave up nearly 46% to Sora, and got killed by Snake. He looked fine in 2007 for the most part, but he got beaten pretty badly in the match with Cloud/Samus/Ryu (Not that most people wouldn't have, but he was closer to Ryu than Samus, which isn't good). He looked fine in 2008 as well except for the loss to the Cube (which you can obviously blame on Zero). It's pretty obvious that Mega Man has lost a step though. --- "But you have been given freedom. Freedom to be...outside." "I am lightning...the rain transformed." |
