From what I've understood, RE5-backlash has been exaggerated...

It rated very low compared to RE4 and lots of people complained it was more like GEars of War then RE4. I don't think its exaggerated.

I mean Gears of War as in that you get the most out of it by playing co-op and it has a lot of the cover mechanics and all of Gears of War. It was more of a multiplayer experience while RE4 was a single player game.

I don't get how being similar to one of the most acclaimed games of all time by the same freaking company and the same franchise could earn you so much backlash.
It would be like FF games being hated on because they have an ATB bar, it's always weird when some franchises change=baaaad, but for others more of the same is worse.

Yeah, don't take Chris > Jill -- this poll was from a week after RE5's release. He still did well last year though and should indirectly look better than before...but it doesn't look like he's favored very much by the fanbase compared to others.

The whole poll feels a little weird though...Wesker in third place? Plus I remember yo saying something interesting last year about how Leon gets to dominate the poll alone for RE4 and Jill got to SFF much of the rest of the competition.

Nope, RE6 would have to be an absolute smash hit across all three consoles to do that. To be on Squall's level means he'd be tied for either number 10 or 11 (depends on who you'd take in a rematch between Vincent and Squall, could possibly be a spot or two higher if you think Megs and Sonic are defeatable 1v1) and that he could resist SFF from basically anyone who's not a Noble Niner. That's a long, long, looooooong way from being incapable of beating Dante and losing to him handily. Dante is, at best, stuck in the low-mid of high midcarders. That's asking Leon to jump something like 10 spots or so at a minimum.

This was pre-KH2 Sora, though, which gave him a VERY sizeable boost. I'd say that getting 41% on Kratos is good enough, but let us not forget this isn't the same Sora that exposed Mega Man.

RE5 or no, I'd never pick Chris > Jill. RE5 wasn't big enough and Jill's still pretty iconic.

So ~20% have MW2 and another 32% considering it and 48% not getting it. Let's compare it to other games.

Chris got 38% on post KH2 Sora. I think people are overrating Jill because she upsetted Ocelot last year. Either way I feel the match would be close before any SFF.

Isn't Jill better than Chris in RE1/make though? That's his main game(s) outside of RE5. Throw in she's a hotty with several more games and the movies, too, and she cleanly doubled him in the RE-poll I already posted (which, again, was a week after RE5 came out). Jill should have the SFF-advantage in that battle, yet charmander brought up a fair point too -- indirectly and pre-RE5, Chris > Jill is plausible. Now that RE5 is out, one would imagine he would indirectly move up, and he could arguably do better in the RE-poll now that more people have played RE5 and it's settled in more...

As much as I hate agreeing with Albion, he is right in saying Jill was the RE Figurehead for quite a while in spite of the series featuring an ensemble cast. In fact they hyped Chris' game (RE5) by saying "HEY GUYS JILL DIED. PLAY THE GAME TO FIND OUT HOW!"

Yeah, Leon's really the star of the series now -- he's a protagonist in the series' two biggest games which happen to be the biggest game of each RE-era. I can't comment on whether that happened by being in the right games at the right time or his character being that cool (or both), but I'm pretty sure he's not been playable in any other titles yet he can still kick any other RE-character's ass. He's only been associated with the best of what RE's got to offer, even if he's not as iconic as Jill was before his return.

I wonder how Leon would have done before RE4 came out. That's clearly his main source of strength, but I don't think he would have done terrible without it -- Claire's done alright before. She's gotten ~44.5% on Tidus and ~48% on Kairi once upon a time, and I think the only other big role she had outside of RE2 was Code Veronica.

Zack may have had a band-wagon as he kept winning, but he had another reason to perform well at the end: LFF. Link/Mario are obviously connected, Mario/MMX share a connection of their own, and Link/Mega Man plus LoZ/MMX say Link/MMX have a relationship. Remember how much Mewtwo got to stand out against Cloud/Squall/Sora? We could see something to that effect here, too.
