LBP blew it away, and probably (at least partly) because it had a far bigger advertising campaign than the rest of those games and no game could rely on a previous game series for name-power. Have any of this year's new IPs used much advertising? I recall commercials for DJ Hero, Scribblenauts, and maybe Madworld...but that's about it, and I don't think I saw as many commercials for them as LBP last year.

Anyways, it seems like Mario isn't doing anything to pull any sort of comeback on Assassin's Creed II with the day vote. Assassin's Creed II's lead on Mario just keeps on increasing.

Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ!

Then again, I think CoD:WaW was hyped too and followed CoD4 first, yet it didn't finish far past Soul Calibur 4 in last year's multi-platform poll. They have to meet the hype this year

World at War was made by the backup team. Call of Duty games are made by different teams each year. Infinity Ward is the dominant team that made CoD1, CoD2, MW1, and MW2. They are the ones that made the critically acclaimed ones. Treyarch has made CoD3 and World at War, both games that are good but not great games.

I predict Borderlands for Best IP. Pretty popular right now over here, and I don't think the other games are going to do much damage.

System of the Year should be interesting as well. PS3 winning wouldn't surprise me, though then again it didn't win when it had ****ing MGS4. Still, it's been gaining traction, and the price drop certainly won't hurt it, so it's possible. Wii should be even lower but sadly I don't think it'll be below the DS. Maybe next year?

Other categories I forgot are Best MMORPG (WoW if SBAllen bothers running the poll again, Aion has no shot of upsetting that), Best PC Game (Did anything come out for the PC besides The Sims 3 and Aion?), and Best Remake (Did we even have any remakes? Punch-Out!! can be considered one, I guess, though it's a pretty loose connection).

Wouldn't mind SBAllen nixing the PS2, Remake, and MMORPG categories.

Only game for PS2 this year I can think of thats not some crappy licensed game or a watered down next gen port is Devil Summoner 2, so that'll probably win that.

Pc, I'd go with easy win for Sims 3. Nothing else that big came out exclusively for PC.

Wouldn't surprise me, though I wouldn't know what games would do well on it.

They got a Resident Evil 4 port apparently. Assassin's Creed II is also on the iPhone but that will go to the multi-console poll.

on that note, expect the Wii to get absolutely hammered this year in SOTY. I could see it losing to the DS.

While I don't expect DS to do well in the SOTY the DS had a pretty good year compare to the other systems (also the second half of this year was able to redeem itself enough from causing this year to be one of the worst years in gaming)

DS > PS3 > X360 > Wii > PSP

Not sure where to put PC, what other exclusive games besides Sims 3 did it get, not sure if will be ranked above or below the Wii?

I love how the PSP didn't even make the poll.

I know this isn't indicative of the SotY poll, but the 360's still doing damn well, with the PS3 being respectable as well. The biggest shocker though is the PC actually beating the Wii, though to be fair I can't think of two Wii games I'd actually want.

this is kind of a SOTY poll right here. PC > Wii, 360 pulling about 5% above PS3. in other words, exactly as you'd expect.

DS is alright this year, but definitely not up to par when compared to previous years. it lacked a big game this year - the new Zelda is the least hyped Zelda in existence and a third Pokemon game is not close to being as big as the first two in the gen. there's some decent stuff but not enough to push it above the Wii really.

The DS also had Scribblenauts, which while it didn't live up to the hype (I actually called it winning GotY's at some sites! Not anymore!) it still had plenty of hype and did get decent reviews. Granted, it won't compete with Platinum or Zelda here or most places (though I wouldn't be surprised to see it win some DS GotY awards at other sites), but at the least it did give the DS a bit of awareness through the summer at least. The second Layton game probably didn't hurt, either, nor M&L3.

All exclusives 80% or above, like your list of DS games (excluding Kingdom Hearts)

Its easy to make these lists if you start listing games that aren't even top tier reviewed games!

The 80% area is where you'll find most of the good games, anyway. The 'top tier' reviewed games, save for a couple here and there, usually aren't worth the scores they're given!

The whole exclusive games argument this year is no good. There are a solid amount of good games, but they're spread out across all the consoles and portables. If you want to be objective and invoke Game Rankings, the PS3 probably wins,' but a good 80% of the games on its list most people don't care about, here or elsewhere.

hell no, you will always get that one guy who hypes a game nobody played and even if B8 hasn't heard of it, Gamefaqs as a whole features one small segment that likes it, if even that small group doesn't care, well that's just plain bad, this site in general tends to support games that are never mentioned on most other sites.

Yeah, the x-stats can say whatever they want to, but Madden is far more popular than Shadow Hearts at GameFAQs solely based on the fact that people know what Madden is.
