Wii Sports REsort sold great. I'd give it the edge for Wii Goty so far, even here.

I disagree most Wii fans on this site try to shy away from such games. Voting for it would basically be saying that the Wii isn't made for hardcore gamers.

Wii Sports is awesome. I'd like to pick up Resort eventually.

I voted PS2 because I've been on a FFX spree for the last month or so, even though I've been playing it on my PS3. Not much reason to be playing a Wii these days.

If it weren't for NSMB4Wii, WSR would win by default. While most hardcore gamers hate the casual route Nintendo's taking, I don't see WSR suffering from as much backlash as Wii Fit or Wii Music. Most hardcore gamers enjoyed Wii Sports, and the gameplay is fun and offers more than the other shallower casual titles.

I wouldn't be surprised to see WSR do well in the GotY polls.
---
Brawl did well for me, but not enough to net me the Guru win over Krahenprophet, so kudos to him.

People enjoy Wii Sports because it's fun and it's actual gaming. Wii Fit and Wii Music are neither.

My Wii's been at a friend's house for a week, and I think I might prefer that way for now. It gives me a convenient little spot next to my TV to rest my main 360 controller.

I've been playing a lot of StarCraft on my PC, but the Wii is full of a crapload of classic Nintendo titles. That, plus I'm replaying Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3 (will probably get to Mario Galaxy again later; I've pretty much beaten everything that I can do easily, and then some more after that).

Okay, last year Gametrailers named 2005 as the third best year of video gaming, only behind 2007 and 1998. Explain to me how a gaming drought gets praised like that. Here's the full list, from what I remember (if you want to see the video for the reasons, please notify me).

1. 2007
2. 1998
3. 2005
4. 2001
5. 1991
6. 1987
7. 1992
8. 1997
9. 1999
10. 1983
charmander6000 | Posted 8/24/2009 7:01:28 AM | message detail
Maybe you should recheck the name of the list because I don't think the videogame crash should be considered anywhere near the top 10.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/top-ten-gt-countdown/33294

They have a good reason behind everything, too.

They gave 1983 a spot because they thought gaming needed a break? 1983 was the second worst year of gaming (assuming we start at 1980) only behind 1984. Quite a bad start to the list.

Getting to the year in discussion, 2005. I found that segment to have the weakest line of games mentioned (besides 1983) and like I've said games like Shadow of the Colossus and Psychonauts are more cult games with loud fanbases and had the games been released a year before or after 2005 both wouldn't have been well known by many gamers. Also it seems like the person also gave bonus points since the PSP and Xbox360 was released on that year (no mention of any games on either console) and the DS had its first full year.

Save for the fact that this site doesn't really care about much anything from '07.

2007 has been the best in recent times (since 2005), but it's still no where near the top.

Okay yeah, 2007 was probably a better year for gaming then '08, but then again...going by Empire Magazine's list, it somehow seems like they were bashing all of the sequels, and then IRONICALLY praising GTAIV. Just because I feel like it, here are how the 2004-2008 games did on the list.

3. World of Warcraft
4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
15. Half-Life 2
16. Grand Theft Auto IV
18. Gears of War
23. Halo 3
24. Super Mario Galaxy
26. BioShock
30. Resident Evil 4
32. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
35. Shadow of the Colossus
37. God of War
48. Portal
49. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
56. LittleBigPlanet
63. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
66. Left 4 Dead
70. Guitar Hero
75. Rome: Total War
78. Company of Heroes
80. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
96. Okami

Notes: San Andreas was probably being represented by GTAIII, which was 22nd. And yeah, look how bashed the "big-name" sequels were on this list compared to on GameFAQs...Guitar Hero above Brawl, in our dreams. LittleBigPlanet ahead of Twilight Princess...in our dreams. BioShock above MGS4...look how well that worked out. And yeah, this list suggest that Super Mario Galaxy would beat A LINK TO THE PAST, but lose to GEARS OF WAR.
LinkMarioSamus | Posted 8/24/2009 11:45:46 PM | message detail
Well, then here's how the 1998-2003 titles fared on the list, since I couldn't resist.

8. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
11. Planescape: Torment
14. Halo: Combat Evolved
19. Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
20. Metal Gear Solid
21. System Shock 2
22. Grand Theft Auto III (assuming this also represents Vice City and San Andreas)
29. Half-Life
31. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
33. Unreal Tournament
38. The Sims
40. Deus Ex
41. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
42. Shenmue
44. Silent Hill 2
45. Gran Turismo
46. Ico
47. Metroid Prime
50. Virtua Fighter 4
51. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
52. StarCraft
54. Silent Hill
55. Call of Duty
57. Devil May Cry
59. Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings
60. Grim Fandango
72. Diablo II
73. Final Fantasy VIII
74. FreeSpace 2
79. Aliens vs. Predator II
82. Black and White
83. HomeWorld
85. Dungeon Keeper 2
88. Thief II: The Metal Age
89. Counter-Strike

As much of a flop as Metroid Prime turned out to be, it's not losing to Ico, Gran Turismo, Silent Hill 2, Shenmue, Eternal Darkness, Deus Ex, The Sims, Unreal Tournament, System Shock 2, Baldur's Gate II, or Planescape Torment anytime soon...nor is it going to be beating StarCraft, MGS2, Diablo II, or FF8 anytime soon. I really did have to scoff at the site somewhat after looking through this list and seeing how fanboy overrun this has become. A good example: I tried playing Brawl sometime ago and it was...boring. And yes, FF7 was ahead of Ocarina on this list, so you guys still have some refuges if you're sick of Ocarina as best game ever.

What game, the new Batman?

Well, it did pretty well for itself in this poll:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3561

It came pretty close to Dissidia, but I'm sure Dissidia suffered a bit by being a handheld game and handhelds not being as strong as console games on this site.

Trend chart for yesterday's poll:

Time | Under 10 | 10-13 | 14-17 | 18-20 | 21-25 | 26-30 | 31-35 | 36-40 | Over 40
EBV | 0.93% | 2.01% | 25.02% | 28.90% | 31.13% | 9.13% | 1.94% | 0.50% | 0.43%
PHV | 0.87% | 1.83% | 21.96% | 29.85% | 31.51% | 9.66% | 2.73% | 0.71% | 0.88%
FNV | 0.75% | 2.19% | 18.58% | 27.68% | 34.23% | 11.37% | 3.34% | 0.94% | 0.91%
BSV | 0.61% | 3.70% | 21.43% | 24.25% | 29.79% | 13.11% | 4.51% | 1.32% | 1.28%
DSV | 0.67% | 4.02% | 20.58% | 25.44% | 30.93% | 12.14% | 3.90% | 1.17% | 1.14%
ASV | 0.85% | 5.15% | 26.76% | 23.26% | 27.77% | 10.69% | 3.46% | 1.00% | 1.06%
SNV | 0.88% | 3.28% | 22.96% | 24.81% | 31.11% | 11.21% | 3.47% | 1.05% | 1.23%

"Under 10" with the board vote here, maybe because of joke voters. "10-13" and "14-17" both bombed the night vote, but got a good ASV. The SNV went back to favor "18-20" over "14-17" as the younger users were going to sleep for school tomorrow. "18-20" did best with the board vote, Power Hour, and night vote and for the rest of the poll, it could never do as well as what it had in the night vote. "21-25" had the night vote here and did bad with the morning vote and even worse with the ASV. "26-30", "31-35", "36-40", and "Over 40" did worst with the board vote/Power Hour, but actually did best in the morning. Maybe the older population likes voting during their worktime/school hours.

From a buisness perspective wouldn't GameFAQs be the better choice? Since ads are probably the biggest revenue for either site and ad companies usually pay based on number of hits it would be easier to increase the traffic on GameFAQs because it's a smaller site than Gamespot.

You're right about that. Still with Gamespot having multiple matches occuring at the same time and breaks in the middle I don't see too many new people coming to the site (GameFAQs didn't see a huge spike in 2002 until round 3). Especially if they don't put a huge banner at the front page.
