http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=48170 I had to compare Nintendo Power's top 20 games on each Nintendo system to the contest. NES - Uh, according to this list Zelda 1 > Mario 3 > Mega Man 2 > Mario 1, and it's "Nintendo" Power; look how well that all worked out Also according to this list Super Mario 2 wrecks Final Fantasy 1's face...yeah, in our dreams. Game Boy - Tetris > Link's Awakening > Pokemon RBY > Oracle series > Pokemon GS. Not so on this site! SNES - So if these "Nintendo" Power guys could put FF6 in 3rd, then why did it look so bad on a site normally biased towards the FF series? And Chrono Trigger losing to Super Metroid...in our dreams. Mega Man X > Final Fantasy IV...once again, in our dreams. (Actually, according to this list FFIV should lose to Secret of Mana, and Yoshi's Island and Super Mario Kart both lose to Contra III...hahahahahaha) N64 - Mario Kart 64 ahead of GoldenEye...look how well that worked out. Star Fox 64 ahead of Majora's Mask...in our dreams. Perfect Dark failing to make it might've foreshadowed it's collapse, though, I guess. GBA - Fire Emblem is 15th on this list. OOPS GCN - It may be "Nintendo" Power, but according to them RE4 > WW > SSBM > MP > SCII > SMS. Resident Evil 4 and especially Wind Waker > Melee...in our dreams! Goes to show you how much this site cares about shooters in comparison DS - The original Phoenix Wright was nowhere to be found. (Justice for All was 9th though) Wii - So...Super Mario Galaxy was the unanimous decision for 1st. Yeah...look how well that worked out at GameFAQs, and goes to show you how little we care for 3d platformers, and how much we care for LoZ and SSB. And Twilight Princess ahead of Brawl...look how well that worked out. It must be known that according to their top 100 list in 2005, Wind Waker beats every Mario game (then again Resident Evil 4 was ahead of everything except for Ocarina, OOPS). Also, according to them, Super Mario Sunshine > Final Fantasy VI > Majora's Mask > Melee > Punch Out > Soul Calibur II > Super Smash Bros. > GoldenEye > Chrono Trigger. OOPS. ESPECIALLY ON THE SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE AHEAD OF SSBM PART!!! And I'd have to admit that SSB64 beating GE and CT would be worse than it defeating StarCraft. |
LinkMarioSamus | Posted 8/14/2009 6:40:06 PM | message detail |
Actually,
according to Wikipedia some sites considered Super Mario SUNSHINE to be
on the same level as the classic Mario titles at the time of its
release; to say nothing of most critics saying that Galaxy is on the
same level (which is very much true IMO). |

So,
how about that Michael Jackson's Moonwalker? I predicted it would win
this poll simply because it would get the joke vote. Well, it's
winning, but only has a 211 vote lead on Streets of Rage. Too bad I
missed the first 1 1/2 hours of this poll, so I don't know what Michael
Jackson was doing during that time. It probably won't survive the night
vote. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

so much for that. Michael Jackson lost the lead to Streets of Rage on
the most recent update. Michael Jackson's lead had maxed out at 302 at
2:15 AM. Streets of Rage cut off about 100 votes in just 30 minutes,
but Michael Jackson turned it into a stall-out for another hour before
Streets of Rage made a second push to try and come back. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

For reference: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3198 Chakan is the only returning option, which is getting last place in both polls. Good thing, too -- I never could get into that game. It's also odd to see Zero Wing and Shaq-Fu fail to impress against less than stellar games yet MJ's Moonwalker may steal this...I doubt it would do this well before MJ died; it seems like an easy poll to pity-vote it. Worst of all, however, I see Altered Beast, Eternal Champions, and especially Comix Zone be destroyed here... ...unnacceptable, GameFAQs. Michael Jackson's Moonwalker is going to take the US day vote and come back, book it. Streets of Rage is already up 959 on Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, so that might be hard to pull off. Not exactly impossible, because "3:30 AM - 4:29 AM" was able to build up a 1772 vote lead over "9:30 - 10:29 PM" with the night vote. "3:30 AM - 4:29 AM" managed to blow a 1772 vote lead to "9:30 - 10:29 PM" over the course of about 8 hours and lost to it by 495 votes in the end. In a 10-way poll, no less. Just
voted right now. Holy crap, Sonic's playrate actually went up since the
last time this poll was asked. And the playrate will only improve even
more with the morning vote. While OoT and FFVII took a huge tumble when polls for those games were hosted last month, OoT only has a GameCube remake and also a Virtual Console release and FFVII has no remakes yet (the PC version doesn't count here). The original Sonic has way more remakes than either OoT or FFVII, so maybe that's why Sonic didn't fall apart since the last time we saw a poll for it. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

I'd
like to see a poll for Sonic's best game right now, to see how well the
original Sonic would hold up to the rest of the games in its series
now...or really, all of the 2D-Sonic games. While the general
playrate's staying up for the original Sonic, the number of people who
first played it on the Genesis has taken a big hit; I wonder how much
that affects the Genesis games against the 3D-Sonic games. It could be
a reason why Sonic's dropping lately -- it was a lot cooler to like
Sonic if you grew up with his games on the Genesis than on the
Dreamcast or a Gamecube collection. Here's the only Sonic-poll we got for games...which is eight years old: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=580 --- Nominate DOC LOUIS (Punch-Out!!): http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=49774975 |

I'd
say 2 weeks is best. It gets the word around so we have more then just
b8 focused characters, which we really don't anymore of. We have enough
Nintendo and RPG characters as it is. At least casuals can get more
variety in here. --- http://www.xboxlc.com/cards/blue2/Albion%20Hero.jpg http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/9/2009/08/500x_shamsteam.jpg |
HaRRicH | Posted 8/17/2009 11:58:12 AM | message detail |
I'm not completely convinced the casuals aren't
the reason why we have so much Nintendo in the bracket; it wasn't Board
8's fault nearly every playable SSBB character plus Sandbag made it in
last year (and I think due to many of them bombing last year and
Nintendo not having any big releases since then, we can expect
Nintendo's number of reps to drop some). Anyway, I'd like the happy medium of a week-long nomination period. --- Nominate DOC LOUIS (Punch-Out!!): http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=49774975 |

From: HaRRicH | #089 Well thats true, but I mean I doubt we'd get characters like Arthas, Marcus Fenix, Guybrush, Big Daddy, and some more of those non b8 type of characters if we had a very short nomination period. Plus, its less SFF matches. --- http://www.xboxlc.com/cards/blue2/Albion%20Hero.jpg http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/9/2009/08/500x_shamsteam.jpg |
Yesmar | Posted 8/17/2009 12:07:54 PM | message detail |
I
don't know why Allen hasn't posted noms yet. He has the code,
presumably, and all he would have to do is change the dates from last
year. Maybe this means he's working on a 1 vs. 1, or trying to put together a power bracket on his own, both of which would be :) :) :) Honestly, if Allen just left up noms all year long, and got someone else/a group of people to design the bracket he would have a lot of work off of his shoulders. Ceej said back in '04 that Board 8 couldn't help design the bracket for legal reasons since they could be trying to help themselves win, but he never responded when people said they'd be willing to give up their right to prizes in order to design the bracket. I'm sure there's someone that CNET could entrust with the bracket that cares about the contest, and would be willing to forfeit their prize. Hell, do it publicly, so no one gets suspicious. --- KrahenProphet owned me in the Guru Contest by 39 votes! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. |

I'm just saying I'd prefer variety instead of 2/3 of the contest being nintendo/square And there are way better non-Nintendo/Square characters to provide variety than ****ing Guybrush! Who's calling for more Nintendo/Square anyway? People mostly want to see the random Brawl/lesser Square characters replaced with stronger ones. proving he doesn't know what he's talking about once again. Nominations
don't need to last for weeks, plural. One week at most is sufficient as
long as it gets a big banner on the front page when he puts them up or

Huge difference between Sonic in the UK and all of Europe: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3578®ion=GB http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3578®ion=EUR 91.81% playrate in the UK, but an 84.24% playrate in Europe. In this poll, the UK contributed 46.37% of the European votes. This huge difference would mean that Sonic's strength comes solely from the UK (and Ireland too, but that's like an extra 200-300 votes).
