Solid Pikachu Seph Samus Mario Auron Crono Vincent I'm not big on Samus > Mario anymore until she proves it without a doubt again, and Solid's not beating her or Mario by a lot, so Sephiroth's got this pretty easily. I'll also give Crono a one-year break against Vincent due to last year and CTDS, though no matter what happens I don't take Crono to stand up to Vincent in fair circumstances after that -- CTDS is already almost forgotten. I would have liked seeing Solid face Mario or at least Samus though; Pikachu is a gimme. Link L-Block Cloud Seph Self-explanatory. --- Nominate DOC LOUIS (Punch-Out!!): http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=49774975 |

Mario's
division should really be on the top in place of MC/the rat.
Mario/Snake is much better than Mario/Crono, gives Snake a chance to
prove his worth rather than simply facing Sephy, and MC (and maybe the
rat after RBY) would have decent backing among the casuals to make the
final four or even the final. That stacks the top half like hell but
it's more fair than letting Mario rip through the bottom half. Switch Sephy and Crono as well if you really want to waste a match on Mario/Crono (making Snake / Samus // Mario / Crono or something similar). --- RPGuy netbook remix |

Eh,
I kind of want to avoid setting up Snake with Mario or Samus due to the
possibility of him losing to them through rSFF (if he does lose to
them, we won't be able to say conclusively if it was the SFF or not).
He's already validated his strength more than matches with those
characters could do for him anyway; he's earned the right to face
Sephiroth 1v1. --- Link he come to town to dominate all other characters and trample them down with his sword of more votes. |

Wow,
65% of the site likes music games, or at least tolerates them enough to
avoid that final option? I was expecting that to be way lower, given
how GH/RB always falls flat on its face in sitewide polls. Also good to see how the consistently high quality DLC continues to win Rock Band more supporters every day. That's
probably part of it, though I think that Rock Band's had a lot more
momentum with the full-band set than Guitar Hero has; RB pretty much made
GH add drums and a mic to their games if they wanted to compete. I also
wouldn't rule out that Rock Band: Beatles having just come out affected
the votes a bit, though we can't prove that too much and it's not like
RB:B was particularly more anticipated here than GH5: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3591 --- Nominate DOC LOUIS (Punch-Out!!): T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

Blue would dominate that match with Red in a far second. In a poll like that, we would need the following options: Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Brown, White, Black, and Other. I think that's pretty ideal. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3611®ion=US Going to midnight releases of a video game are easily way more popular in the United States than everywhere else. Even in Canada, it's way less popular there than over here. I wonder if midnight release events are a US only thing and that they are rarely held in other countries? This might explain why going to a midnight release event is very unpopular outside the US. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |
charmander6000 | Posted 9/20/2009 6:12:58 AM | message detail |
I wouldn't be surprised. Midnight releases are very rare in Canada and only happen for extremely popular things (Harry Potter's 6th & 7th book, Halo 2) and even then that's more common in Toronto. I think it's a population issue in that even if a popular thing is released the stores won't get overwhelmed when they open in the morning by people that want to buy the object and just regular shoppers. I can also say that in Portugal that kind of stuff doesn't happen making me believe that the rest of Europe may follow the same standard. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/BGE2%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Krahenprophet for winning the guru contest |

Toys
R' Us had a morning lineup for Wiis when they first went out. At about
an hour before the store opened, we let people in only to buy the
console (they had to have a ticket), and we sold out before the store
even opened. This happened for a month or two. It also happens for
anything really popular (the only game we did that for was Wii Fit when
they were brand new). --- "Calling Pokemon RBY a top 10 game was the most insane contest jibba-jabba ever Woe unto he who sig bets with the near-invincible Lord High creativename |

What the flip Ulti? http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/vgsales/images/2/2b/Npd_total_sales_(aligned_launch).png (This is software sales, not hardware, and US only.) Given that games on the Wii have outsold all games on the 360 and PS3 combined to this point in their life cycle, I'd have to disagree with you. The Wii might very well be a failure with the hardcore gaming audience, but it's been an unqualified success with that "mid-life crisis" demographic you were speaking of. --- KrahenProphet is the King of the Gurus! The
only real problem with that is that the attatch rate is horrifying for
the Wii and almost all of those sales are 1st party WiiFits and
WiiSports or some of the endless shovelware. With the exception of the
big titles, SSBB and the like software sales are poor. It just doesn't matter because the Wii has sold so much more hardware that Nintendo can live with selling 3 games per console and a ****load of peripherals. --- *shrug* |

Well
yes, I don't think anyone is going to argue that sales equals quality,
I'm just pointing out that Ulti's premise (the Wii will fail because
the old people buying the system will rarely buy any more games for it
past the first couple months) is faulty, if software sales are any
indication. Ngirl's got a point, the Wii's attach rate isn't exactly stellar (it was sitting at around 5.5 games sold per console heading into the year), but to be fair that still puts it ahead of the PS3 (which is attaching at a rate of only 5.3 games per console). The biggest misconception though is that "Nintendo has zero 3rd party support." Check this out: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/vgsales/images/c/c5/Npd_3rd_party_software.jpg True, the Wii's 3rd party sales were pathetic throughout its first year (barely staying ahead of the PS3), but they've really taken off since then, and as of the start of this year it was actually pretty far ahead of what the 360 managed during its first two years on the market. --- KrahenProphet is the King of the Gurus! Doesn't
bother me since Nintendo 1st party is still great for both audiences,
and Microsoft and Sony are still targeting hardcore. As for third
player, it's not like the Gamecube or N64 really had much third-party
variety either. So in the end, little has changed besides Nintendo
making ****loads of money off different consumer bases. We're still
getting big franchise games with Galaxy 2, Other M, and the next Zelda,
plus they still have a bunch of second-tier franchises like Pikmin,
Kirby, and F-Zero that they've just been sitting on for no particular
reason. As long as the Wii isn't your only console (a solid PC makes a good substitute), there's not really anything to complain about. --- Brawl did well for me, but not enough to net me the Guru win over Krahenprophet, so kudos to him. |
