Also, SMG2, goddammit...and GH5 is looking TERRIBLE, though I don't think it's representative of how GH1/2/3 would do. Those game were legitimately big -- especially GH2 and GH3 -- and seemed to have much better followings before the market for instrument-games became flooded with more instruments and competition. I wouldn't trust any other GH to do well, and I feel cautious about Rock Band too...but those first three should be okay.

I'm a huge music game junkie, but for me, Rock Band/GH isn't the kind of game I'd be hyping big, mainly due to DLC. Theres constant music coming out so theres not as much excitement about new installments, for me at least.

Silly me for going against Krahenprophet in the guru,he predicted his own victory as well as my doom.

Interesting thought: a remake of Pokemon G/S would likely be beating D3 and might be beating CoD4-2 for anticipation if it wasn't for SMG2.

FF13 got the night vote as expected. Going to note this down for later: FF13 is at 23.09% as of 1:08 PM EST. There's still about 1 1/2 hours left before the ASV, so we'll see if FF13 goes up or down then.

It should, because if I recall correctly, that was CoD4's best time in the contest.

At the same time that FF13 was at 23.09% when I posted it in my last message, Modern Warfare 2 was at 16.45%. I chose not to post that earlier.

As for my two cents...WOW MARIO GALAXY 2 IS DOING HORRIBLY IN THE POLL!!!

Here's something I find ironic: at Gamespy's Best of 2006 Awards Final Fantasy XII ranked 3rd and Oblivion was 8th (Twilight Princess > Company of Heroes > Final Fantasy XII > Gears of War > Okami > Rainbow Six Vegas > Guitar Hero II > Oblivion), despite Gamespy being a mostly PC site (also they called FFXII the best FF on a Sony console, eesh). Yet, on GameFAQs, a site mostly biased towards FF and against PC stuff, Oblivion is more well-liked. Any questions? It seems like FFXII is made for those who didn't like the earlier installments.

Also Final Fantasy XII ranked highest among Square titles on Edge's Top 100 Games to Play Today (FFVI was 89th, CT was 67th, FFVII was 48th, and FFXII was 25th). That list also had Oblivion at 45th I think, and, uh...

...then again, Twilight Princess was 96th while Wind Waker was 23rd, and we all know who SFFs who. Also, Brawl was 69th and Galaxy was 8th. And...well, it seems ironic to think that the GameCube is the whole reason why this site doesn't care about newer Mario games when Super Mario Sunshine is more critically acclaimed than Melee (92% at Gamerankings vs. 90%, yeesh).

I still find it funny how on Edge's list TP was 96th while F-Zero GX was 75th, and such. Oh, and Ico ranked higher than Shadow of the Colossus (Ico was about 54th while Shadow was 68th; then again HOW is a minimalist action adventure better to play today than a huge fighting game?).

Also on the list Vice City was 22nd while San Andreas was 28th (and IV was 12th), which lends some credibility to Vice City being stronger than San Andreas here (also Prime and KH didn't show up on the list for some reason). And as I final note to make some happy, Star Fox 64 got on the list! It was, uh, 98th.

People just aren't interested in new Mario games. The old ones are classics and get a lot of support through nostalgia, but people want something more in a new game nowadays.

It's official: Super Mario Sunshine killed Mario. Nevermind the awards, reviews, and praise SMG got here and otherwise, Mario's just not been looked at the same since SMS was announced...curses, FLUDD.

I don't know if that's actually true or not...but I do wonder if SMG will ever do better if Mario-games are nostalgia-based. If it does, I wonder if other Mario-games are like that too...but it's clutching at straws just for SMG to become respectable again after going from GotY to what it did in BGE2, much less others.

Here are some matches that I'd like to see. But before that...I'd like to say something: it's just funny that on this site StarCraft and Half-Life 2 would beat any Halo game but would also lose to any Kingdom Hearts game. And I remember that, according to the x-stats, KH2 would beat ANY FPS game. Yeesh.

Super Smash Bros. Melee vs. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - This goes without saying.
StarCraft vs. Diablo II - I think StarCraft is indirectly stronger, but Diablo II might SFF it's older brother to death (yeah, I can call SC DII's older brother, right?)
Half-Life 2 vs. Call of Duty 4 - Well, HL2 almost broke 40% on a top ten contender while Brawl smoked Call of Duty 4 into pieces...but I'll still take Call of Duty 4 to win (at the present, I actually wouldn't even mind Call of Duty 4 beating Ocarina).

Plus, we need to see the true strengths of Pokemon RBY and Resident Evil 4.

I really have to wonder whether Call of Duty 4 is the strongest shooter on this site that doesn't have Nintendo appeal? Uhm, where are the x-stats?

BTW I just recognized that if Ocarina and FF7 were taken out the bracket, we might very well have seen Melee vs. Brawl. Yeesh. So, assuming FF7 gets replaced with Tomb Raider and Ocarina gets replaced with SSB64...here's how those two divisions go:

GoldenEye > Super Mario RPG
Mario Kart 64 > Star Fox 64 - Call me nuts, but Tomb Raider, Command and Conquer, Total Annihilation, or whatever else probably gets eliminated, and very likely has a close fight for 3rd with Suikoden. Then again, Fallout might stand a chance, but whatever.
Super Mario 64 > Symphony of the Night
Chrono Trigger > Yoshi's Island
Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow > Majora's Mask
Metal Gear Solid > Pokemon Gold/Silver
Final Fantasy VIII > StarCraft
Final Fantasy IX > Super Smash Bros. - StarCraft isn't exactly a weak game, and I REALLY doubt that SSB64 would beat it (StarCraft still beats any Halo/Half-Life game, remember), but Half-Life sure is. And I would be SUPER angry at this result.

GoldenEye > Super Mario RPG - Mario Kart and Star Fox definetely get SFFd to the bottom of the barrel by 007.
Super Mario 64 > Chrono Trigger
Metal Gear Solid > Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
Final Fantasy VIII > StarCraft - As I said, I kinda doubt that SSB beats StarCraft. Most games which are series progenitors are still seen as among the best in their series, but not SSB.

Chrono Trigger > Super Mario 64 - Here CT gets to stand out against three Nintendo games, yay. Super Mario RPG likely takes last.
Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow > Metal Gear Solid - Another cool thing to watch for in this match is to see how close StarCraft gets to FF8.

Chrono Trigger > A Link to the Past - This is assuming that FF6 just dies off and Zelda 3 and Mario 64 LFF each other. I'd like to see what you guys think.
Metal Gear Solid > Final Fantasy X - Scratch that, we're not guaranteed to have Melee vs. Brawl! Assuming that Pokemon and SSBM hurt each other.

Chrono Trigger > A Link to the Past - With CT posing in FF7's stead. If we really did retire FF7 and Ocarina, then it seems that we wouldn't really have known about CT's downfall!
Brawl > Final Fantasy X - Now two MGS games hurt each other and Brawl ends up standing out like CT in the prior match.

Brawl > A Link to the Past - This final match would be unpredictable as HELL.

I'm taking SSBB and not looking back. It's at least indirectly done in one year what SSBM's done in eight, and it did much better against LoZ:OoT than SSBM did (SFF'd SSBM gets 43.78% on SFF'd SSBB, though R/B/Y was in SSBM's match...but I don't buy that it hurt SSBM enough to match or beat SSBB). We also saw SSBB kill MGS4, which wasn't that far behind FFX. When you look at SSBB/FFX using MGS4 as your measuring stick, FFX gets 44.12% against SSBB...compare that to FFX getting 45.12% on SSBM despite KH (and D2 if you want to take the three-RPGs perspective of this argument). Heck, SSBB got 44.74% on FFX despite LoZ:OoT, and we know LoZ:OoT crushed every Nintendo game in its path except arguably R/B/Y. Then you have the biggest game on the Wii against the biggest game on the Gamecube...

...SSBB just shouldn't lose that battle, period, and the majority of our original suspicions about SSBB from the days of its hype came true. I miss SSBM's speed and combos, too, but SSBB's a monster despite tripping and it's time to stop making excuses for SSBM. Even if SSBM could win that match right now in a best-case scenario, it wouldn't be able to by the next time we see them face each other.

SSBB would beat Melee. Its sold more and has more recent fans. Old school fans might prefer Melee more, but Brawl I believe is still bigger.

Never was in contention to me. I mean, it has sold more in one year than Melee has sold in eight, hilariously enough. The hype was insane on GameFAQs, and though the game underwhelmed everywhere else, GameFAQs was still pretty much the only place to give it GotY. TP kinda underwhelmed, but Brawl really was bigger than Melee in every way, and though some fans didn't like it, they're a minority and frankly GameFAQs doesn't seem to give a **** about their opinions considering how god damn strong Brawl was in the BGE.

I truly think Brawl is the third-strongest game and would win a contest sans-FF7 and OoT.

Interesting cut-off point for games that should have advanced to the second round and games that should have been one and done, given that they both gave us some surprises by failing to meet expectations yet both should be under-rated to some degree. SMG was stuck with Pokemon D/P and SSBB while SM was stuck with SMK, LoZ:LttP, LoZ:LA, and DKC. I'd imagine SM would be the favorite in this match, though I wouldn't like taking an old Metroid-game over a new Mario-game. Thoughts?

It's not just that match- RBY put up 3 very good performances, with the one that seemed somewhat less so being due to triple Nintendo LFF including Pokemon LFF, and Metal Gear Solid being stronger than nearly anyone here expected. RBY putting up 47% on FFX with OOT and SSBM in the poll says as much or more than it 60-40ing Melee.

Melee/RBY would be a toss-up for me. Dunno which I'd pick.

So Bacon's gonna do his little side-contest for boards first, which will take at least two weeks, which means no contest announcement at that time. So we'll either wait until late August/early September for the contest, or he may just outright skip it.

If he skips it, I hope it at least means we get another Spring contest out of the deal.
