From: HaRRicH | #252 I'd say Sims 3 is probably the biggest PC game, not counting Dragon Age which is also coming to consoles... and Sims 3 would be pathetic in a goty poll --- http://www.xboxlc.com/cards/blue2/Albion%20Hero.jpg http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/2009/07/custom_1247502431005_ice.jpg |

course. Mac = PC, since most of the bigger PC games go there as well,

If
FO3 got in again, it wouldn't do nearly as well as it did in last
year's GotY (or even in BGE2). I can't think of any ports, rereleases,
or expansions that were on-par or even close to when they were first
released outside of maybe WoW. Here's the best example I can find (and
it's not hard to find others): http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1134 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1489 GTA:VC went from nearly getting GotY over the then-respected MP to a 72-28 beat-down from SW:KotOR despite being packaged with GTA3. So yeah, RE5's not taking diddly off of a FO3:GotY-edition. --- Nominate DOC LOUIS (Punch-Out!!): http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=49774975 |
PartOfYourWorld | Posted 7/14/2009 4:46:37 PM | message detail |
The
big GotY poll (the one with like ten entrants, not three) might be
terribly skewed. RE5, SFIV, and Modern Warfare 2 will very likely be
the biggest games of the year (outside of Pokemon), and they'll all be
duking it out in the multi-console poll. I hope SBAllen realizes that
all three should get into the real poll, but then again, I really don't
care much so disregard this post. --- Yoblazer: http://i44.tinypic.com/5nw45i.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll b... part of your world! |

I'm
rather surprised at how high the Minesweeper playrate is. I knew it
wouldn't be beating Tetris's playrate of 97.36%, but the Minesweeper
playrate as of the 12:45 AM update is 87.88%. This is just barely
beating out games like OoT and the original Sonic the Hedgehog. I was
expecting Minesweeper's playrate to be lower, like around around 50% or
so. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

Why
should it be surprising that people voting on an internet site have
played a game that comes with every PC. I don't know why you'd think
that so few people have actually played the thing. I hate Minesweeper,

I don't know why you'd think that so few people have actually played the thing. You think 50% is too low? Also, Minesweeper's trends should be interesting to see how the playrate varies from each voting period. Wonder if it will have a good night vote or a good day vote. A trend chart for this poll could look something like this: Time | Minesweeper playrate EBV | 88.42% PHV | 88.00% With the other time periods being filled out later. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

-LusterSoldier- | Posted 7/15/2009 10:48:05 PM | message detail |
Trend chart for yesterday's poll: Time | Minesweeper playrate EBV | 88.42% PHV | 88.00% FNV | 87.24% BSV | 85.22% DSV | 85.51% ASV | 86.06% SNV | 87.49% The trends are certainly a interesting thing to look at. The highest playrate that Minesweeper had in the poll was during the board vote. This was when "I've never played Minesweeper" was at its lowest percentage of the poll. Minesweeper's playrate dropped after the board vote. Due to the very strong board vote and Power Hour, Minesweeper's playrate keep falling for most of the poll. When the ASV arrived, Minesweeper was starting to run out of gas and during the middle of the ASV around 6:00 PM or so, Minesweeper's playrate started to increase again but only by a very small amount. The BSV was just brutal here and the DSV was almost just as bad. The ASV was a slight improvement over the DSV but Minesweeper really recovered in the SNV. Board vote, Power Hour, and both of the night votes were good for Minesweeper but looked horrible elsewhere. Another thing, with Minesweeper's playrate falling for almost 3/4ths of the poll, it has trends that I would call "Anti-Classic FFVII trends". While the classic FFVII trends dictates that FFVII starts the match with its lowest percentage in the board vote and rises for the entire match, Minesweeper's playrate was doing the opposite here, starting with its highest playrate and falling for most of the poll. These trends probably aren't going to give an accurate idea of what kind of trends Minesweeper would show when placed into a future Best Game Ever contest. Here's what Minesweeper's playrate looked like at the end of each voting period: EBV | 88.42% PHV | 88.00% FNV | 87.49% BSV | 86.95% DSV | 86.38% ASV | 86.29% SNV | 86.35% --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

Analyzing regular, boring POTDs just reminds me how much we need a contest. At least when the contest was still in progress, I could still discuss the contest. Now that the contest has ended, the only thing to analyze the trends for are regular PotDs. At least you can look forward to nominations for the next contest being opened again in about a month from now. Most PotDs don't have anything interesting for me to look forward to, so I will rarely be posting trends for a regular PotD. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |
