Looking at Got Consoles apparently the PSX took a hard hit in the 2007 poll since in 2005 it was sitting at 76.25%. Also the PS2 was at 82.8% in 2006 and GC was at 74.57% in 2006

I don't feel that the "Do you still own a ___________?" polls should be used to determine ownership. Like on the PlayStation one, the percentage of users that once owned a PlayStation, but no longer own one now should not be counted towards total ownership. So I feel PlayStation ownership should be at 41.15% and not 75.04%. The "Got Console?" polls considers the current ownership of the console itself and doesn't take into account users that owned the console at one point in time, but no longer owned the console at the time the poll was run. For example, in "Got Xbox 360?", if you once owned an Xbox 360 but no longer own one, then you would technically have to vote for the "No, and I don't plan to buy one" poll option because you don't currently own the console at the time the poll was run.

It's difficult to win when more than 50% of the site has never owned your system, as misleading as these kinds of ownership rates are (MGS4, ZACK UNFAIR, etc). For that matter, I expect all of the "have you played x" polls are inflated thanks to people being more likely to respond if they have indeed played the game, especially with less widely known games.

Hmmm...

And in North America, 73% of the people owned a SNES. It was a high non-ownership rate outside of North America that brought it down. And yeah, this poll kinda shows why Sonic's games did so badly in the Games Contest and may partially explain Sonic's downward spiral the last couple of years. The last time we had such a poll was 2007, when Genesis had 45% never owning one. Although that poll had a "No, I never owned one, but I've played one before" option. Hard to say how many of these people saying they've never owned one have never played one.

"Yes, but it's not hooked up right now" actually managed to lose the board vote to "No, I never owned one". It jumped into first place on the second 5 minute update of the poll and started to build a lead of its own over "No, I never owned one". "No, I never owned one" has been getting in some occasional stalls/cuts. "Yes, but it's not hooked up right now" may not be able to build up a big enough lead to survive the night vote.

Good lord, a 43.75% update from "No, I never owned one" on the 3:21 AM update. "No, I never owned one" is getting some big cuts on "Yes, and it's still hooked up to my TV". The 3:16 AM update also had a big update from "No, I never owned one".

NES is winning the ASV. The lead was at 1975 at the end of the DSV and it's down to 1617 right now. NES lost the board vote, won the power hour, and lost the FNV, BSV and DSV to "No, I never owned one".

I do find it odd how NES could not win in the morning, as that's when most of the ASV strength is concentrated in when you have a weekend or summer poll. Remember how Link won the BSV over L-Block, but then lost the remaining time periods like the DSV and ASV? Well, that was a weekend match so Link's ASV strength came in the morning.

I wouldn't be so sure. The reception didn't meet the hype. So I wouldn't expect it to dominate as much as the hype polls.

As for other games that might be featured in the various GotY polls at the beginning of next year, there's Prototype, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, inFamous, The Conduit, Punch-Out, and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. But that's all I can think of right now.

The Conduit and FF4: After Years would be no where near the level needed to be in a Best of 2009 poll so far... seeing as how both have mediocre sales and average at best reception.

Instead of Conduit and FF4: After Years, I'd easily do Sims 3 and Killzone 2.

Punch-Out's gonna make some noise, wait and see -- forget all this RE5-malarkey!

Okay, it's not...but for it being pretty heavily advertised with a strong reception and the only major Nintendo release GameFAQs would care about since MKW (wow, really that long?), it shouldn't do too bad. Better than SF4, surely...! What else is even coming out later this year? Is FF13 still on schedule for the Christmas season?
