I think some people in this topic are going to get a rude awakening when they realize 1v1 isn't that much more fun than four-ways.

Few people are going to debate that. The boring matches are still boring, the good matches are still good. It DOES have an advantage in that SFF matters much less as you near the home stretch (unless you count Clinkeroth and Mario), so we can get more accurrate readings on the characters. That's one of my biggest reasons for wanting a 1v1, really. I want to see how some of my favorite characters stack up once they don't have to deal with SFF at every step.

To an extent, he'd be partially right. Not that I wouldn't enjoy it, but when something special becomes something expected, then it does lose its edge a bit.

Damn, that burns! Sure, Crono has surrendered the day vote on every single one of his matches since 2k3, but that's harsh, Ulti.

Makes you wonder where Crono gets his strength since Europe doesn't like him either.

Haven't been able to find it anywhere, so yeah, pretty much. South Am always gets the products (it's better than Europe, at least), but usually pretty late.

Can we all at least agree that we need to have contests in the summer again? Vote trends are way more unpredictable. RE4/MGS3 would not have been nearly as good has it occurred on a school day and we knew going into the ASV vote that RE4 would most likely win it by enough to win the match.

We would get higher votals as well.

I'm not so sure why Chrono Trigger collapses with the ASV. It's known that Chrono Trigger is very strong in North America, which gives it a very strong board vote and Power Hour. By the time the ASV arrives, Europe's involvement in the match should have already died down to the point where they won't make Chrono Trigger do bad then. North America should be the ones in control of the ASV (like with the board vote and Power Hour), so Chrono Trigger doing bad then is odd.

If a "What continent are you on" is ever re-run again, someone should try to do a trend chart (and a hourly trend chart too) for that poll so we know exactly how much involvement each continent has during the major voting periods. North America will do worst overnight and best during the board vote and Power Hour. Europe will probably do worst either during the board vote or the second night vote and best during the morning vote or possibly the first night vote. But if that poll is re-run again, I have to hope that it is run on a weekday during the school year.

Sure, I could easily do that, but it's especially error-prone. The only true way to get an accurate idea of how much involvement each continent has during the different voting periods is to track poll results when the "What continent are you on" poll is re-run again and then use that to make up a trend chart for the poll. I'm sure TRE would be up for tracking poll results on a poll like that.

Tetris collapses with the ASV as well. I think Tetris dropped like 5% going from the DSV to the ASV in its round 2 match with Mega Man 2.. Tetris has one of the worst ASV's ever, but would Chrono Trigger win the ASV over Tetris? I know Chrono Trigger is going to crush Tetris at all times of the day, but simply relative to each other at the start of the ASV and the end of the ASV. If Chrono Trigger had 70.00% on Tetris at the start of the ASV and had 70.25% on it at the end of the ASV, then that means Chrono Trigger won the ASV over Tetris.

Haven't we already done that before?

Not that I know of. I'm hoping the poll gets re-run on a weekday during the school year as the trend chart for the poll would be relevant to a good majority of the contest matches excluding weekend and summer matches.

Well, CT's ASV improved noticeably this year (and maybe starting last year). It's no longer standard deviations below "bad." Rather, it seems to be on a tier with FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX now.

That's probably temporary. Remember that the remake gave Crono a new lease on life last year and allowed him to beat Vincent in their rematch. This time, though, I have a feeling that by the time the character battle rolls, a lot of its impact will be gone.

I doubt an as-of-yet unreleased port had much to do with anything

Let's see...the point of placing them against low midcarders is a good one. So here's what I'd put them against:

Charizard/Duke (completely opposite voting blocks and all)
Revan/Zidane (wonder if Revan will follow HK's trends...)
Cid/Alucard (Al is the Mr. Consistency of low midcarders, pretty much. He always has performed around certain levels, so he's a good test for Cid)
Yoshimitsu/Ness (Ness is a low midcarder, right?)
Ken/Gordon Freeman (Only in a 4way. 1v1, GFNW)

The only way a poll like that could be run is if we knew the names of all the future next gen systems before they are released. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft would all need to announce the names for the future consoles for the next generation and all of the names would need to be announced before any of the consoles are actually released. So this gives a very small time period between when the last company out of the "big 3" (Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft) announces the name of its console and the time at which the first console out of the "big 3" is released to run the poll.

We've had that before in 2008 and in 2009 with the System of the Year poll.

But what I thought you were referring to is something like a "What is your most anticipated next generation console?" poll, where you vote on what console you are most interested in out of the next generation. That kind of poll could only be run on this site under the following situation:

Suppose Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft announce the names of their next generation consoles on the following dates:

Sony - 6/4/2011
Nintendo - 11/18/2011
Microsoft - 2/2/2012

Then Sony's console will be released on 4/15/2012. All the dates are made up as examples to explain what I mean here. That would mean the "What is your most anticipated next generation console?" poll would have to be run sometime between 2/3/2012 and 4/14/2012, as that is between the date that the last company out of the big 3 announces the name of its console, but it's before the release date for the first next generation console. A very small window of time to run the poll and is not likely to occur as the Xbox 360 got released like a year before the PS3 and Wii.

I will agree with you on this. I feel that System of the Year is asking users what console had the best video games during that year and the poll very likely does not represent what console is their favorite one overall. Despite the fact the Wii has the edge in ownership, it still got badly crushed by PS3 and Xbox 360 in the last System of the Year poll.
