From: ZFS | #096 I'm not really arguing about stronger characters. I'm arguing characters like Lucas and Cecil. I think its better to have more variety then Nintendo/FF fodder stinking up the entire place. Plus,
the point about Cid is that there's a lot more you can do with him
besides sticking him as a 16 seed against a Noble Niner right off the
bat. --- "But you have been given freedom. Freedom to be...outside." "Krahenprophet is lightning...the rain transformed." |

Yeah right. I guarantee that won't be your reaction to that, heh. Say
we remove caps completely, and 4chan gets word of this and decides to
mass nominate 10+ Pokemon. How would you react to that? I'd throw a fit, but it's about as unlikely a scenario as one of us winning multiple contests in a row. The only people who even know about a cap are the ones in this topic right now. Even with the cap, 4chan can only manage Mudkip and Nidoran (Bidoof was Board 8 fueled, was it not?), and they couldn't even manage both in the same year. --- Yoblazer: http://i43.tinypic.com/8zkzm1.gif Watch and you'll see... You lose Hogger and Nero, but gain Cid and Red XIII -- is this that bad of a trade? FFVII fans - Oh look more FFVII, but we wouldn't have argued if only 5 of them made it instead of 7. WoW/DMC4 fans - Yes a character that I like made it to the contest, who cares if he gets destroyed. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/BGE2%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Krahenprophet for winning the guru contest |

I think its better to have more variety then Nintendo/FF fodder stinking up the entire place. Plus, its less SFF. It doesn't make much difference if the characters you want to replace them with are equally as weak. --- There ain't no gettin' offa this train we're on |

Why
does it matter what the fans think about an individual character
getting in, even if he gets destroyed? Give me a good contest with good
matches, not moral victories and sentiments over a character getting in
and getting 15%. --- "But you have been given freedom. Freedom to be...outside." "Krahenprophet is lightning...the rain transformed." |

Assuming
Squall and Vincent are equal, 55/45 doesn't seem that bad, and that
would put Cid somewhere around the Luigi/Yoshi level, if not a bit
higher. Think about it, we've been missing out on a character (a liked
character, no less) that strong for seven years because of the cap. --- Yoblazer: http://i42.tinypic.com/avk9ie.jpg Watch and you'll see... Krahenprophet pwn me... in the Guru Contest! |

Yeah,
I don't know about this Cid hype we have going here putting him up near
Squall, but he definitely needs to get in -- even if he won't be as
strong as his supporters are arguing! --- There ain't no gettin' offa this train we're on |
LeonhartFour | Posted 7/3/2009 11:27:03 AM | message detail |
45%
on Squall isn't unreasonable, really. That's probably about as high as
I'd go with him though. I don't think there's any chance Cid actually
beats him, but Squall doesn't break 60% on him either. --- "But you have been given freedom. Freedom to be...outside." "Krahenprophet is lightning...the rain transformed." |
ZFS | Posted 7/3/2009 11:28:37 AM | message detail |
I'm
not sure what I would give him on Squall, but it probably wouldn't be
45%. He isn't going to be up near Vincent and Tifa, that's for certain.
He's well-liked, but no need to push it -- he's still a secondary FFVII
character in every way, contest strength included. He and Red XIII
should be pretty close to each other, and a good ways behind Aerith. --- There ain't no gettin' offa this train we're on |
PartOfYourWorld | Posted 7/3/2009 11:28:44 AM | message detail |
I
think Cid can make a go at guys like Luigi, Yoshi, or even Dante. He's
no threat to the Noble 9, but a character that can hover in that 15-20
range should not have been MIA for seven years because of a cap. --- Yoblazer: http://i42.tinypic.com/avk9ie.jpg Watch and you'll see... Krahenprophet pwn me... in the Guru Contest! |

You want the best contest possible? The Noble 9 Megaman X The main Mario Cast The Triforce 3 The entire playable cast from VII and most from X. Other FF characters. Zack Fair Frog Magus A couple more Smash characters About 15 Pokemon and then Red/Ash. CATS The other Elites Honestly, who gives a **** about some of this people we have every year? There is no way anyone can convince me Gyarados (probably not even top 20 on the Pokemon scale) would not relentlessly murder some one like Wander, Earthworm Jim, Jade, etc. I want the strongest, (and CATS) I don't care where they are from. If you want to ***** because your favs are not popular....THAN LIKE BETTER CHARACTERS!!! Maybe,
if only because she's seemed to have fallen off a bit in the past few
years. He's probably not too far behind her, although I still don't
think he'd win that one. I think any new FFVII characters would fall in
behind the rest of the cast that we've seen. --- There ain't no gettin' offa this train we're on |

Squall can get 70% on Tidus, I see no reason why a weaker (you heard

hmmm,I
really want to see bayonetta enter a contest soon,it seems as though
she'll have the potential to be near dante levels of strength and from
the new bunch coming the fact that she seems to be an actual character
and not a bland face for the player to use as he sees fit.yeah she's
bound to be stronger than Cole or Alex...Is Blazblue a game first and
other media second? if so i think there's enough flash for one to enter a contest, then there's Lord of Shadows's main as well as a possible stronger Drake. the Assassin's Creed II main from the current hype might be stronger than Altair which would be decent enough i suppose. though to this day i really don't see many new characters coming close to Lightning/Snow/Noctis's potential strength. come to think of it,Noctis as versus XIII's main will have far more exposure in his game than lightning does in hers cos XIII seems like the other party members may share some of her power. what else has potential? --- Silly me for going against Krahenprophet in the guru,he predicted his own victory as well as my doom. |

Let's
not forget that we DON'T actually want all-strong entrants, people. If
we only get close matches, they lose their edge. SOME blowouts and
predictable matches are fine as a rest between the debatable ones. The
problem is when we get too many of the former while not enough of the
latter. |

an extent, he'd be partially right. Not that I wouldn't enjoy it, but

Those
days would be boring because we know trends now -- an issue we already
deal with. You can't fault a hypothetically-perfect bracket for that. Also, let's not act like we want blow-outs here. We accept, understand, and typically forgive blow-outs...but we tolerate them for the close matches, preferably with characters we care about. Having more fodder increases the chances of more blow-outs since they'll probably face somebody recognizably stronger than the fodder while costing a character more people care about from getting into the contest. Yes, we all like to see our lesser-known favorites in (I'm leading a Doc Louis rally, for example), but I think most people here just want the blow-outs to cater to us a bit more while hoping the rest of the contest is epic-mania with close killer matches. --- Nominate DOC LOUIS (Punch-Out!!): http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=49774975 |

From: charmander6000 | #147 This, more or less. Most 4way matches are close, at least when you look at the vote difference...and yet, everyone wants a return to 1v1. Close matches that don't go down to the wire get boring if you don't have only a handful of them per contest, and there's no way we could make a bracket full of 50-50 affairs unless we include only fodder. |
charmander6000 | Posted 7/5/2009 11:25:14 AM | message detail |

think some people in this topic are going to get a rude awakening when
