Hard to say how Tidus has fared since 2004. Shadow.....didn't suck back then, probably. Getting doubled by Megaman of 2004 is a lot less embarassing than getting doubled by Megaman would be now, too. It's funny how the x-stats predicted Tidus/Shadow almost completely correctly, and yet both of them were vastly overrated in 2003 or dropped off in 2004, or both.

Yeah, it's ATB instead of being strictly turn-based, which makes it much faster. Square talked about how they used FFX as a base and went from there in one of their past interviews.

I'm currently watching a walkthrough of it on YouTube and it has some creative ideas. Definetely deserving of getting to round 3, but no more after that.

FFX would have lost to Melee, Brawl, Pokemon, MGS and a case could have been made for TP.

FFX is one of the best games I've ever played, both for plot/characters and battle system. Blows most other JRPGs out of the water because it manages to get both right. Comparing cross-genre depends which genre you prefer though: if you hate JRPGs, you ain't gonna like FFX.

Yuffie > Chocobo is an easy pick, heck even Mog has a chance (not a good one). Chocobo will fold to any FF competition.

Otacon > Yoshimitsu seems more likely IMO.

This is the kind of **** that allowed the Bhopal incident to happen. 5,000 dead Indians. Want that on your damn conscience, Square apologists?

I was kinda torn on Yoshimitsu/Otacon, yeah...but I do think Yoshi'd do better than Nightmare though (who would beat Siegfried, Ivy, or probably Jin, too), so I'll leave it to Otacon to impress me from there. Not that Nightmare's a very difficult opponent, but he'd do well enough on Ocelot or Raiden...and I don't think Otacon compares that well with them.

Yuffie felt like the natural pick, but Yuffie also did quite bad in the old FF7-poll and was mostly known as the ***** you find in the woods that steals your materia. If chocobos are symbolic of the FF-series, then combine that with the popularity of breeding and racing chocobos in FF7 and I would think that would be enough to throw Yuffie out of there.

I think Nightmare would easily win against Yoshimitsu, while he is a fan favourite in Soul Calibur II (probably the others as well) Nightmare is on a different league than anyone from the game. Also fighters like Tekken and Guilty Gear are not popular on GameFAQs.

Ehh, I think Zack is a different situation. Its the black haired Cloud thing, I think. FF7 fans will just vote for him regardless since theres nothing to not like about him. But outside of Cait Sith, Yuffie is probably the most hated FF7 character.

I'm just not familiar enough with SC then, but I thought he was a big Tekken-fave and Tekken wasn't that much smaller than SC. Also, I thought about Zack, but Zack also has his own game and looks a lot like Cloud yet never had a negative stigma like Yuffie. It's also worth mentioning that -- though Zack looked like he could be as strong as Aeris -- I don't think many of us trust him in an SFF-match. Yuffie wouldn't be an Aeris, either.

I'd kinda like to see Zack/Yuffie now.

Bah, misread that post. Anyway, I think the FFVII hierarchy strength-wise would go something like this...

Cloud > Sephiroth > Vincent > Tifa > Aeris > Cid > Red XIII > Zack > Barret > Yuffie > Cait Sith

Now where characters like the Turks fit in is anyone's guess.

Give me Zack over Cid and Red XIII, otherwise that's probably about right.

Yuffie would be a strong, though, far more than most characters in the NRT.

I think Zack's plenty legit. That match with Mario sealed the deal for me. There may have been SFF involved, but you have to have some real strength to nearly beat Mario. I don't think Aeris would have won if she was in his position, for instance.

I wouldn't look at just his role in FFVII either. Crisis Core has definitely given him his popularity.

I don't mean to question Zack not being strong; he had a fine run last year, complete with taking down an old-school and new-school FF-character along the way. He's legit before bringing up his match with a gimped Mario due to impressing against Link the two rounds before.

I still think another playable FF7-character could make him look less impressive quickly though. As far as the FF7-hierarchy goes, the only character we know for sure Zack beats is Zolomy...and between his role in FF7 and him relying on a PSP-sequel to FF7 for strength, I doubt he comes out favorably in many matches against established FF7-characters we've been able to play as for well over a decade. Perhaps the lower-end ones like Yuffie, but I'd take Aeris to handle him without much effort despite Zack looking on-par with her last year.

I don't know how we could say anything definite about any of Zack's matches. His first round fourpack was crap. Wario's always been crap, and I have no idea why he was the Guru favorite there. Asking 40% to vote for Wario? Ha, good luck. He barely got that against Shadow!

The second match was double SFF, but he did double Zidane, so I'll give him some credit there. Not that Zidane is strong or anything, but he's borderline fodder and being able to SFF him means that people DO care about you. Round three is probably the most legit match he had. Yeah, he beat the Duke pretty badly, but the Duke is low midcarder, so I don't know how impressive that is. Round four, well, that much is obvious.

And I like Zack! I'd vote for him against Aerith, but I don't know if he'd win.

I think Zack would get plenty of favor from FFVII fanbase in those direct match-ups. He couldn't handle Cloud/Sephiroth/Vincent/Tifa, but he could probably be competitive with Aeris, though I don't think he'd win a direct match even if he may be indirectly as strong or stronger. I'd feel good about direct match-ups against any of the other FFVII crew, though, especially Red XIII and Yuffie.

Zack has a certain cool factor that trumps most of the other characters -- it's the same kind of thing that Vincent pulls from. Being the main character of a well-received prequel to FFVII and having an awesome design is a good combination. Definitely not a good idea to underestimate CC, I don't think. Even people who didn't think the game was all that great still love Zack, which says something. I know I'd vote for him over most of the FFVII cast, sans Cloud.
