Hey, Round 2 last year Pikachu was working against LFF and still came out on top!

Actually, it's funny. If Alucard had one there, Pikachu wouldn't have received nearly as much support next round, and L-Block probably would've advanced again. And after that...who knows?

The whole idea of the pokemon being stronger than the main character (when there are 150 Pokemon in RBY!) is a lot like the idea of Magus > Crono. I'm not really convinced about Red's potential though I can agree that Red > Pokemon Trainer.

Though for the Nomination Rally Pokemon fans should beware when voting, anti-vote rallies tend to form rather quickly, just look at what happen to Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy VI and Nintendo characters when they all did well in previous contests.

Completely different cases. Everyone knows the Pokemon are the stars. For the year or two when RBY was the only Pokemon game in town, "150" was the biggest number in gaming. It was all about catching them all, training them, trading them, yadda yadda. Gotta Catch 'em all. "Getting Red to the end" would not have been as marketable a slogan. Crono is just as much a main character as Link or Dante. Pokemon Trainer is more the means you have to use to communicate with the game world and the real main characters - he's kinda like your main character in Animal Crossing, who'd be much weaker than a Tom Nook.

In previous NRT if a group of characters are doing well some people on the board get mad and anti-vote them.

For example right now 3 Pokemon characters are in the top 2 seed, if all three make it to the division finals people may vote against them so that they don't have to nominate characters from the same game/series. Final Fantasy characters should also beware.

It's about emotional attachment more than anything else, and Red should beat out any of the pokemon in that area, for the simple reason that the pokemon are the ultimate ensemble cast. You play as Red, you use the pokemon as a means to an end, and can easily switch between them at will.

And while it's true that Red probably isn't the focus of RBY as much as Crono is of CT, to be the strongest character in his series, he doesn't have to be. If he were, that'd put him on a level with post-CTDS Crono, judging by the games contest we just had. To be the strongest character in his series, he just has to beat out Pikachu.

Red will be nowhere near as strong as all the star Pokemon. He would beat out the Nidorans or the Parasects, but he's got nothing on Pikachu/Mewtwo/Charizard/Jigglypuff/Starters.

Yes, Lucas being in the same match as Kirby, who stole all his smash support is the same as Jigglypuff who has appeared in all three Smash games.

I'd sooner compare Jigglypuff with Marth, who does rather well considering he only has Smash support. Jigglypuff also has Pokemon to work with.

I can also bring up a lot of characters who ARE helped by being in Smash Bros. Jigglypuff may be one of them due to being one of the original twelve, but the character design is a turn-off for a lot of people, I think.

It's funny to think that our top 3 games from BGE 2004 were almost unanimous on GameFAQs. This top 10 of the Most-Listed Games on GameFAQs' Top Ten lists is another indication (on top of The List). I don't think our current top 3 are anything like this -- even the top 2 can still flip-flop depending on the day / the way we vote!

Merely being in Smash isn't worth that much. Marth still lost pretty badly to DK, and Falco took last place against Scorpion and Gordon, despite both being top tier characters in Melee and popular with casuals, and Falco having a fanbase from Star Fox. With Pokemon, the RBY fanbase is by far the most important here. Red has a very wide range of potential, but at worst there's probably only 5 or so pokemon he loses to (certainly not to the likes of Jigglypuff), and I have some difficulty seeing him drop a match to any of them directly.

Pikachu vs. Red- who do you vote for? Now, I know the stats topic hates Pikachu for some reason, but I see Red putting up some pretty big margins among the RBY fanbase across the site. Yeah, Pikachu is much more widely known outside the fanbase, but that kind of argument has never really worked before when we're dealing with a game as strong and widely played as RBY.

Again, I don't see where any of this so called strength is coming from for Red. You see his face in the very beginning of the game, and at the very end in your Pokemon League Champion badge. Other then that, he has no personality, no interesting characteristics, he doesn't star in his own game (the Pokemon are the stars), and he doesn't even have a memorable name (the vast majority of people here will be confused on why his name is Red instead of Ash or Pokemon Trainer). He really has absolutely nothing going for him other then the fact that he's the guy in the one Pokemon game that is supposed to be you.

I brought up Jigglypuff because she has been in all the games, is loved overseas, is in all the Smash Bros. games, and was a recurring character in the anime. While she might not be as loved as other Pokemon characters, she is still much more well known and unique then Red, and that counts if both are them are in a 4-way match together. Red pretty much is "the Pokemon guy", and that's all he has going for him for strength. I'd take many, many Pokemon over him, and even characters like Professor Oak and Gary as well.

(Note: if the name is Ash instead of Red, my opinion would change).
