I wouldn't consider beating out a DS RPG by under triple digit votes winning by default(Though it's only been... a couple of hours?). If it was around 500+, then maybe considering the whole mess of games in the poll.

I'm starting to think removing Golden Sun from the Games Contest was a very poor judgement call on all our parts.

Yeah, first of all why bring back Fire Emblem and second of all why put it in a Nintendo match. At least Golden Sun is different enough to not be affected as much by Nintendo SFF.

I agree here. I was also against giving in to those whiny FE fans.

That aside, I'd like to see again:

Ken Masters (He didn't get a good draw either contest)
Soma Cruz (He also didn't get a good draw; damn female bracket)
Isaac (You gotta hand it to him for nearly eliminating Lucario, plus he's been stuck against handheld characters for the last 2 contests)

And that's all I can think of for now.

In general, do we agree on 2d games being weaker now? I do, seeing how Zelda 64 SFFd Zelda 3 worse than Pokemon or Brawl.

Also, doing stat calculations revealed that Zelda 64 scored about 74% on Melee. Of course, I remember seeing this one Best Games Ever list that had Melee at 8th and Zelda 64 at 16th (and Super Metroid 1st).

On the other hand though, I've seen a Top 10 GCN Games List that had Melee lower than Mario Kart Double Dash. WTF?

And Melee actually has less critical acclaim than Super Mario SUNSHINE.

Not really, on average 2D games are weaker but the strongest games are more often 2D.

It's not 2D games being weaker in general, but rather Division 32/64 >> All. The average SNES game is (significantly) weaker than the average PS2/GC/Xbox game though, but the spread is greater too, so the strongest SNES games are a tad stronger than the strongest modern games. The average NES game is fodder, but SMB3 remains a top 10 game, and SMB1 and Zelda 1 are probably top 20 games.

And yeah, Nintendo doesn't rule this site anymore. OOT is just an amazing game, and represents everything that was good about Nintendo, and not what they've been doing the past couple of years. If I'm upset at the result, it's entirely at Nintendo winning everything and future contests seemingly having certain winners, not at OOT beating FFVII, which are about equally good to me.

Other than that, Nintendo really didn't impress very much- FFIV is just weak, and no one would have been surprised at LTTP being worth 51-52% on CT except maybe some of those people who thought CT had fallen off the map and CTDS wouldn't do much of anything. We dramatically underestimated SM64 and Pokemon RBY, but as all we saw of SM64 before was an SFF match against OOT and all we saw of RBY before was nothing, that really doesn't indicate any sort of Nintendo domination. Of course, Nintendo did much better relative to Square than 2004, but it can do that and still fall well short of the kind of dominance it displayed in characters from 2005-2007.

To add onto that, Square has clearly fallen off a long way since 2003- not with any sort of sudden Deboost, but gradually, every year. The site is much less Nintendo/Square dominated than it once was, especially Square. Nintendo Deboosting =/= Square Boosting.

Old Nintendo is a pretty balanced and reasonable fanbase. It's always appeared quite willing to support good games and characters even when they aren't made by Nintendo. If there was a single fanbase in the hands of which I'd want to leave the contest, it'd be the Old Nintendo fanbase.

And the evidence for this? Old Nintendo games suffer the least from LFF with each other! It makes sense too- people who started gaming on the NES or SNES are almost always part of the Old Nintendo fanbase, even if they are more in another one too.

First off, thanks a lot for a successful Best Game Ever 2 contest! I didn't agree with the 4-way format, but it turned out a lot more exciting than I expected. Kudos, and thanks especially for the bonus match.

With this contest now behind us, any plans for the future? Any idea on when or if we'll continue with character battles, or perhaps if character battles will be opened up to some giant twists? I know the big push this time is to try convincing you of opening the next character contest to ALL characters that have EVER appeared in video games. I'd love this idea, but it's not mine to argue for. That's yoblazer's gig.

I just wanted to say great job, and I hope to see more in the future! :D

oh btw,every year we get surprised by some casual characters getting in an turning out to be weak fodder like tanner,agent 47,nathan hale/drake or jin,and with quite a bunch of decent titles coming out,they'll probably create a nice following.

So who which newish character can we expect to see for our next CB?

I think Nathan Drake would do a lot better this time. Generally when a character gets their second game they up their performances somewhat. Cole might get in, he seems to have a decent character from what I've heard.

Is it just me, or do characters from rhythm games REALLY suck in these things? All we've seen of them was Agent J, who got the lowest percentage ever for a character, and Axel Steel, who was nearly tripled by Midna and lost to Edgeworth by over 5%.
