I wonder how well Wii Sports would have done, one way it's the sign of "New" Nintendo and everything that's wrong with it, yet on the other hand it's the most sold game ever.

Wii Sports woulda been interesting. I know sports games aren't typically played here, but look at Punch Out... its an obscure old sports game by Nintendo that actually almost advanced. I'd imagine Wii Sport would be a lot stronger.

FFX > FFVIII is proved from round 3 and 5, FFVII > all three is proved from round 6 and the bonus poll and LttP is behind SFF and LFF and has no true value, especially compare to the bottom half.

No I don't believe that and how does me being a Pokemon make me less credible? Please give an argument to why that match was useless.

While Pokemon is "officially" in the top 10 you could make an argument that LttP and friends are stronger than indicated which would push it to number 10-12.

OOT's round 3 match is fine. Pokemon and MGS are just stronger than people expected them to be. LTTP did about the same on FFVII with 2 other Nintendo games as FFX did on OOT with Brawl, so it's plenty far above the non-Pokemon games in the bottom half of the bracket. LTTP/RBY is debatable, and I look forward greatly to CT/RBY, if we ever get 1v1s again!

As for Zack, I don't understand why people thought Wario or Shadow could beat him. Who actually likes Wario? Who actually likes Shadow (more than Link)? Besides, it was a palette swap of Cloud against a palette swap of Mario or a palette swap of Sonic. No major Mario game was scheduled to be released the day of the match. I never understood how Peach was the guru favorite against Fox either.

And, Shadow definitely gets support aside from being a palette swap. He has great character design aside from that, and is the co-star of what is possibly the most popular Sonic game.

Plenty of FFVII fans like Zack, just as plenty of people like Aeris, Red XIII, Barret, etc. Most of the Mario fanbase dislikes Wario. The only match Zack was in that should have been highly debatable was the match against Mario with Link and MMX in there.

Shadow was in no 2D-Sonic game.

It shouldn't be surprising MGS is this strong, either. 2004 had MGS facing FF7, then 2004's CB was a terrible year for Solid Snake, then MGS3 came along to a great reception, then Nintendo announced Solid for SSBB, then MGS3:S came out to more great reception, then the Dojo opened as people waited more eagerly for Solid info, then SSBB came and won the GotY last year, then MGS4 came and took runner-up for the GotY last year...very few series saw their stock rise like MGS did in the past five years, and MGS is the series's biggest game while coming from the strongest era. We probably should have seen an increase in strength coming...which makes RBY look all the more impressive.

@red sox 777: Peach was the Guru favorite against Fox because (this is only my assumption) according to the 2006 stats she's stronger than Luigi, and Luigi would definetely beat Fox, so...plus, a Star Fox character beating a Mario character would be weird anyway. Yeah, even I'M not a big fan of Peach or Wario (though I do like using both characters in Brawl).

I have to think this site has largely dropped Mario; that's the only explanation for SMG losing to a wartime FPS, because Mario Galaxy has loads of critical acclaim (it's never been outside of the top thirty in any Best Game Ever list I've seen) and Mario is one of this site's three big franchises, so...no wonder Mario flopped so badly against Smash. It's possible that Smash rSFFd it in that match (which is ironic since Super Mario Sunshine is more critically acclaimed than Melee, but whatever), and I absolutely hate that. I actually get tired of Smash faster than most other Nintendo games, though me not having many friends to play with doesn't help.

I think they'd have an amazing day vote. the day (around 8 am) started at 29% hasn't played any of them, now its down to 25%. That seems like KH/halo kind of day vote

They should have a good day vote. I know that "I've never played one of those games" barely won the BSV over Guitar and that was because of Europe. Guitar won all of the other voting blocks, though. The Geolocation results would only prove that this is the case. So Rock Band/Guitar Hero should be expected to be weak with the Europe vote. In almost every part of the world, the result was I've never played one of those games > Guitar with the exception of North America and Oceania.

You know, if the next character battle is extended to include all fictional characters that have appeared in video games, I have an idea for a joke character that could participate in it.

Captain Planet. It would not only act as a joke character, but it would have a lot of fad power to draw in votes from. That's got to be a very dangerous combination as the fad is also quite popular here on GameFAQs.

Captain Planet is a playable character in the NES game "Captain Planet and the Planeteers".

That is a problem for Captain Planet since his most well known game would be the one on the NES and the graphics wouldn't be that great at all. There is an Amiga and Genesis version, but both of them were only released in Europe (according to GameFAQs).

Actually, this is also a problem for characters like Brock or Misty if only in-game shots are allowed (and not official game-inspired art). So they'll be stuck with sprites.

Why in the world do we have to make it about the games they're in anyway? That defeats the purpose of adding fictional characters in the first place because most characters who didn't originate in video games have crappy video games, with only a few exceptions like Spider-Man and James Bond.

Because these new fictional characters are entering a video game character tournament on a video game website, and a prerequisite for the other fictional characters is that they must be from a video game. If the "real" video game characters only use official art or in-game shots, these new ones should follow those same rules. I don't care to hear about toy-Kratos or others getting other pics because they slipped by SB.

Also, while I'm generally for this idea, if we're going to try to ignore their video game history outside of whether or not they are eligible, then forget this gimmick.
