This match and the existence of the bonus match have prompted me to drastically change the plotline of my fanfiction. Massive spoilers/parody of Ocarina of Time ahead, also there are spoilers for Final Fantasy VII. Cloud stepped out through the portal back into Midgar, carrying his longtime rival and enemy Link. He and the rest of AVALANCHE all wore grim faces, as if they all but saw their quick defeat and destruction at the hands (though he hasn't any) of L-Block. Cloud called for the strongest healing materia to be brought to him quickly, but even these could not seem to stop Link from fading ever closer to death. Suddenly, Sephiroth reappeared after an absence of several hours. Sephiroth: Cloud, materia are weak. Let me do this with the Power Within. Cloud: The Power Within? Link taught you how to use it? Sephiroth: Well, no, I've always used a form of it, he just....well....okay, he did. Anyway, that's not important right now. The important thing is that I am the only one in this city who has any hope of healing Link. Cloud: Then do it already! Sephiroth: You don't get to order me to do anything, failure. I alone shall decide when and if I do things. And right now, I will heal Link. Sephiroth put his hand on Link's forehead, and a moment later, Link sat up. Link: Sephiroth, I see you have learned the Power Within quickly. Very well, we must plan for battle. L-Block is stronger than I thought, and he has so many pikachus in his army... Sephiroth: Cloud, my plan now looks like our only option, does it not? Cloud: Give you the white materia? So that you have both the white and black materia? I.....I won't. You give me the black materia so I can summon this fusion of Holy and Meteor you want to use. Sephiroth: And if I refuse? I am much more willing than you to just let everyone die, Cloud. Surely you know that. Cloud: ....................We'll both give them to Link. Fair enough, Sephiroth? Sephiroth: But Cloud! After we defeat L-Block, Link will be unstoppable with that much power! Cloud: .......Link, will you promise to return the materia to Sephiroth and I after we have defeated L-Block? Link: By my honor as the Hero of Time, I promise. Sephiroth: But you can't possibly believe him! This is Link, Cloud! The greatest tyrant in the history of the world! Link: I do not lie, Sephiroth. Ever. Do not insult me thusly again. Cloud: Sephiroth, he won't lie. Link is not really a villain like you- he's not evil. He simply considers himself so far above the world that- no, he is so far above the world that- it is his plaything. The ground rumbled and huge bolts of lightning struck the top of the Shinra building. A moment later, the shields went up, and further lightning bolts were blocked, but the shields could not stop L-Block from moving the ground beneath Midgar, and could not stop the earthquakes. Cloud and Sephiroth gave the white and black materia to Link- Sephiroth most reluctantly, but he did it. Link smiled, climbed to the roof of the Shinra building, and told Cloud to lower the city's magic shield. Cloud: Lower the shield! We're going to counterattack! Link held up black materia in his left hand, and the white materia in his right. To Cloud and Sephiroth's surprise, he took out a third materia, a materia that changed color constantly and flashed like diamond. They floated in the air in front of Link, and he slowly took out an old ocarina, and played a sad, deep, resonant, song. Most could not see it, but Cloud knew immediately that Link was using the Power Within in addition to playing the song- a huge amount of the Power Within, in fact, though none of it was visible to the physical eye. --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |

Cloud
had thought Link wanted to wield the power of the lifestream against
L-Block, as Sephiroth's plan said, but he abruptly realized Link had
actually said nothing of the sort. Presently a great portal appeared in
the sky above Midgar, and through it the residents of the Midgar plate
could see a pedastal with a shining sword. Link stepped through the air
as if he were standing on solid rock, up to the pedastal of the Master
Sword. He paused a moment, then drew it out. Blue light flooded the world, and gradually became brighter and brighter until all was awash in white light. No one in Midgar was quite sure what they were seeing, or where it was, but all saw, even those who lived in the slums, a tetris piece approach Link and shift into a mirror image of him. This Link stared into the eyes of the first, which at first displayed shock, which shifted to wonder, and finally to understanding. The white light vanished, and Cloud was plunged into pitch black darkness, for how long he knew not. At last he awoke in a land that was not much brighter. There seemed to be only starlight and moonlight, and even that was greatly obscured by clouds that seemed darker than the night. Cloud at length recognized he was standing atop Midgar- the ruins of Midgar. The plate had collapsed upon the slums, and both were now uninhabited. The world was a desolate wasteland in all directions as far as Cloud could see. A shadowy figure dressed as a ninja appeared behind him, but somehow Cloud knew to trust.....her. He wasn't sure how he knew that, but he knew. The figure spoke. I am Sheik, lone survivor of the Cetra. Listen to this legend passed down by my people from millennia ago. When a great evil threatens the world, a hero will arise, a orphan boy. He will wield the forbidden power, and strike down the great evil, but he will become ever stronger, in will and in power, and he will not be content. He will grow to dominate the world, and oppress it beneath his feet. This will repeat in every age, the legendary hero reborn each time to fulfill his fate of world mastery. When the hero in each age has attained the height of his power, he will join himself to the residual image of his past lives. This is the Legend of Link, which has once again been fulfilled. I believe L-Block was the residual image, and Link has now joined himself to his past selves, becoming stronger than ever. But his victory was not absolute. You too can wield the forbidden power, the Power Within, the force that can do anything imaginable with enough willpower and lifeforce in you, and so can your friends. Sephiroth is dead, but the rest of your team still lives. I am also strong in the Power Within. When you have gathered your team from where they are scattered around the world, we will confront Link together. Go now, and keep the faith. --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |

~~~ 6 months later Cloud had finally succeeded in reassembling AVALANCHE. Cloud, Tifa, Vincent, Cid, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, and Cait Sith, together again, a band of hunted travelers in the wide world as in the old days, before they ruled Midgar. Cloud had not seen Sheik since their meeting 6 months ago, and was beginning to be unsure of whether that meeting was real or just a dream. But now Sheik reapppeared, and she spoke: When Link touched the Triforce, the 3 triangles that set the universe in balance, he only retained two of them, those of power and wisdom. For though he was powerful and even wise, his heart had become filled with fear. Another legend of my people states that when such a thing happens, the other piece of the Triforce will go to one whom it will choose.....You bear the Triforce of Courage, hero. And you have succeeded in reuniting our party. Yes, ours, for I am in truth....Aeris. Cloud stared in shock as Sheik's form was suddenly replaced with that of Aeris. Cloud: Aeris! But but....how? I thought I lost you....I did lose you..... Aeris: Link has great powers; he brought me back to life, Cloud. Cloud: Link? But why? Aeris: Link intends to use me to bring you to him, so that he can kill you and take control of the complete Triforce. I am doing exactly as he said. But I think we can win the battle. He does not think so, or rather he is deathly afraid in his heart of hearts but he persuades himself with his mind that he is invincible, and far too great for the likes of you. And he desperately wants the whole Triforce- until he has it, he lives every day in the agony of intense fear. Cloud: .......Then we must fight him. I see that if we do not, the world will never be healed, so we must risk everything on this battle. Aeris: ......Cloud, there is one other thing. Cloud: What is it? Aeris: When Link dies.........I will vanish. Without him, I will return to the Lifestream again. Cloud: NO!!! Aeris: We must fight him nonetheless, Cloud. You know that. Cloud: ...............I do. We will fight Link, and we will defeat him. --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |
Match LXIV: LoZ: Ocarina of Time vs. Final Fantasy VII Last Round: LoZ: Ocarina of Time – 40.50%* Final Fantasy VII – 36.70%* LoZ: A Link to the Past – 11.80%* Final Fantasy X – 11.00%* *estimate, on-going match Analysis The contest is officially over, but SBAllen decided to be nice and give a bonus one vs. one match between first and second place and since I’ve wrote analyses for each match I decided one more wouldn’t hurt. For the past two months we wondered which game was the strongest in the bracket as we watched both Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VII trying to up one each other; today’s match we got our answer, but with four-ways having so many different factors would Ocarina of Time defeat Final Fantasy VII as badly in a normal setting or even win at all, we’re about to find out. Ocarina of Time went into the final as the underdog and managed to defeat Final Fantasy VII without too much trouble. With a win that huge and the fact that the two losing games had a combine percent of less than 23% should make Ocarina of Time feel comfortable going into the match. All that’s really left to talk about is the percent that Ocarina of Time will get. Personally I think Ocarina of Time will get a lower percent against Final Fantasy VII in this match compare to todays. Directly adding Link to the Past to Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy X to VII will already give a lower percent and I don’t really see a non-proportional amount of Square or Nintendo voters switching sides. Also with Ocarina of Time winning Final Fantasy VII fans may be more eager to vote for it in an attempt to win. I really thought Final Fantasy VII had the contest won, I guess Nintendo LFF made it look too good to be true. While I suspect Final Fantasy VII will do better I don’t think it can make the gap and win. The only argument I see is that many casuals won’t come to the site since the contest is over and the hardcore GameFAQs visitors would for Final Fantasy VII. Of course that theory is debunked as soon as you look at the joke match after the previous two contests which had high vote totals. This is really going to be the last analysis of the contest, seriously. I think the reason why SBAllen agreed to this match was that Ocarina of Time scored a rather easy win so he feels confident that the result will stay the same and won’t prove that four-ways is a useless format. charmander6000’s Prediction: LoZ: Ocarina of Time wins, 51.37% - 48.63% --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/BGE2%20BOP.xls BGE2 - Today's Match: FFVII > LoZ: OoT Points: 451/640 |
Assuming
MGS4 took an equal amount from the three games and none of FFX's votes
would have gone to LttP FFVII would need about 67% of FFX's votes
against OoT, the number rises as LttP gains some votes plus MGS4 would
probably affect FFVII more. I'm leaning towards no. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/BGE2%20BOP.xls BGE2 - Today's Match: FFVII > LoZ: OoT Points: 451/640 |
FFVII
is probably going to go back up a little bit with the SNV, so OOT will
finish with like 52.2% or somewhere around there. In that case, here
are some targets for FFVII to maintain a 50% chance of winning: 1 AM: Down by 900 2 AM: Down by 1100 5 AM: Tied FFVII has to start making real cuts and not just stalls once we get through 2 AM. --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |
assumes votals tomorrow are exactly the same as today, by the way, just
