FF7's
performances have been great the entire contest due to the fact that
nothing had been SFFing it the entire contest (except maybe Suikoden).
Now that FFX is in the match, FF7 is feeling the full force of SFF for
the first time. And Old Square does not count. FF6 and CT are almost as much Nintendo as they are Square. I think if there is one thing we learned this contest, it is that New Square and Old Square do not overlap much at all. --- http://thengamer.com/guru/bracket.php?id=147 |

that's based on Melee/FFX with KH, which almost certainly overrates
Melee, and Ocarina/RBY, which almost certainly underrates RBY. So I

Why
why WHY do people always mention Harry Potter in this stuff? Do you
hontestly think he'd be above mediocre mid-carder at absolute best? Harry Potter would definitely be above a mediocre mid-carder, even though he has no shot at winning. The one scary thing about him though is the fanbase. For example, IMDB had a series of polls for Best of 2005 in movies and Harry Potter fans were able to rally/stuff (who knows which) around 2,000 votes for each poll. Now these were polls for the *movie*, that you had to register to vote in, and which required some degree of navigation once you got to IMDB, and which were not on the front page. Not to go all Albion here, but I would not be shocked if Harry Potter fans were able to rally 5,000 votes here if they tried, and that's before any stuffing. That being said, Harry Potter would have one hell of an anti-vote base, and who knows if the fanbase would even give a **** about GameFAQS. --- FastFalcon owned me in the Guru Contest! |

I'd love to see at least Gandalf. Homer Simpson might also pack a
punch. But yeah, the big super heroes and Star Wars guys would probably
bury everyone else. Pretty much. You'd have your odd Indiana Jones and, to a lesser extent, James Bond - more broadly it's all comic book+movie, but half of the big movie guys are all from one franchise. LOTR could have some strength, although it's more unpredictable. think I'm gonna go ahead and concede that FFVII is going down in defeat
here. I find it to be quite sad. And not just because I like FFVII. I
think it proves that nothing non-Nintendo, or more specifically,
nothing non-Zelda can ever win these contests. Although there's always
an outside chance for a lame joke entry to pick up steam and go deep,
that's just not the same as a legit title ousting Zelda. Hell, I'd even
be for Mario knocking off Zelda/Link at this point. It begs the question as to why we should even continue to even have these contests anymore? --- This space for rent... Line 2 reserved for the guru who pwns my bracket. |
