You know, while I understand where the OoT complaints are coming from, I just can't get behind them at this point. This match is still an upset, perhaps the biggest finals upset since Link/Cloud 2k3 (or L-Block, I suppose). And Ocarina of Time has yet to win a contest. Yes, Link is just crazy dominant, but OoT never won yet. I've seen 2k3 Cloud hailed as saving the contests because had Link won again they'd have been stopped. FFVII winning would be a repeat of the only other games contest. Separated by 5 years, yes, and within those 5 years Nintendo started going back to dominating but it was FFVII who was not only defending champion, but the favorite. Yes, FFVII hasn't won a contest in 5 years, but strictly speaking, OoT hasn't won one ever. Link has, yes, and I know he's almost viewed as the same thing, but still... Now, if we ran this next year, absolutely could get the anti-OoT sentiment, but not at this point. I understand that it seems all but impossible that OoT will get deposed barring a FFVII remake or something, but I almost get the feeling that a few hours ago, you almost could have said the same thing about FFVII, although perhaps not as dire. If anything, an OoT victory here can be used to justify a kind of Tournament of Champions for a possible next game contest, whenever that may occur, to get both OoT and FFVII out of the main bracket. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? Woo! Anyway, I'm not sure this point has been brought up yet. Remember after the series contest, most of us figured that FFVII was still stronger (or at least on equal ground) and that many people just loved the entirety of the Zelda series more? Yeah, it's looking like we might have got that one backwards. If anything, it looks like Ocarina carried its series to that win and removing the two top dogs might make the Final Fantasy side a bit stronger. That might not be the case after Twilight Princess, but back then? Yeah, gimme FFX, FFVIII, and FFVI over Zelda's top three. Any day. --- Meeks54's sig for a stupid pick that had no chance. If
we do have a Fictional Character Tournament, please don't mix it with
Game Characters. There are two bad possibilities that could occur here: 1) It pretty much turns into a Video Game Character Contest since they're so much more popular, pretty much ruining the point of the contest. 2) After the first Video Game/Fictional Character match, we'll be able to have a rough way to compare the two sets and the rest of the contest could get fairly predictable. FFVII cuts OOT and crosses 45% on it. Seems to be really moving now. Based on Link/Cloud 2006, OOT wins with 51.60% Based on Link/Cloud 2008, OOT wins with 50.39% Based on Final Fantasy/Zelda, OOT wins with 51.30% Based on Crono/Vincent 2007, FFVII wins with 52.76% Based on Crono/Vincent 2008, OOT wins with 50.49% --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |

I don't care much who posts in the what topic, if you want to go the

The
evidence for the Deboost with characters is pretty much overwhelming,
but I suppose we got the reason for it wrong. Probably there wasn't any
demographic shift, but people were just angry at Nintendo and took it
out on their characters, but not their older games. And the modern
Nintendo games obviously haven't deboosted as they weren't in the last

buy that. After all, if you're pissed at Nintendo (a few months ago,
the entire Internet was), it's much more sensible to vote against Mario

Well,
Link/Cloud barely budged from the original Boost, too. Link gained like
half a percent. So it'd make sense if he's not really affected by the
Deboost. There could be a big disconnect between Mario the character
and Mario games though- probably about as big a disconnect as there is

Deboost was overrated anyway. Most of the characters started dropping
