It's actually very easy to understand why. Everyone knew Ocarina was going to murder the poll. There's one Nintendo game for ya. Nintendo fans had two other options, and if they split evenly, FFX would have had a very, very easy time. They chose to support Pokemon, throwing Melee to the curb. This was made clear to me as soon as Melee got killed during the board vote. Do you actually believe any game, even Pokemon, would have killed Melee in the board vote in Round 1? Not a chance. Pokemon was red hot, it got the support, Melee was tossed aside.
