Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 745

Main thing I've learned from this contest is even after 10-ish years no gaming corperation is focused and dedicated enough to spend time and make a game of FFVII and OoT quality anymore.

MGS4 does work in the deep night too. it's probably almost as good as FFX there.

5 years from now, I predict neither FFVII nor OoT win the contest.

What do you presume comes out in the next five years that overtakes them? Nothing out now is going to get big enough, so you're gambling that something in the next five years becomes that popular? I can't imagine that - not with the way this industry is evolving.

And really, I doubt we need to have OoT crowned a champion of anything before removing it. Even casuals are smart enough to notice that it hasn't even come close to losing to anything so far.

Won't matter if OoT wins tomorrow !!

I could get on board this, but FFX needs to win this first (or Ocarina of Time has to just defy all logic and win anyway).

FFX has a slightly better Europe vote than MGS4, a much better morning vote, and a slightly better day vote.

A few hundred votes is doable, although the 'clutch' factor is in MGS4's favor.

I've thought for years that Division 32/64 was underrated (or the others were overrated, those amount to the same thing). But how much that generation was underrated suprised me. RBY, SM64, MGS, Goldeneye, and of course FFVII and OOT- it looks like FFVII/CT and FFVII/SSBM really were analogous to Sephiroth/Bowser and Sephiroth/Ganon- not just smaller versions of what happened there, but really analogous.

If it were one of the other MGS games, sure. But MGS4 has an amazing power hour and comparatively weak overnight vote- you should be able to bury a Smash game overnight even if Brawl doesn't have as unbalanced trends as Melee.

Maybe. All I know is that FFX got to 1500 on RBY with the night vote, MGS4 couldn't do it against Brawl, whose night vote is worse than RBY's.

FFXIII being a massive hit? It could reasonably be significant stronger than MGS4 due to being multi-plat, and it has the hype.

Joke post or not, I really do wish a bunch of companies would get together, not care about money and just throw as many characters into Smash as possible. Nintendo, Square, Capcom, Konami, all of them.

I've speculated about that before. When people were taking LTTP > FFVII when it was looking to be FFVII/FFVI/CT/LTTP, I said I'd still take FFVII there. FFVII fans and OoT fans are not easily swayed.

I think a bandwagon could form, but only under very exclusive circumstances.

Starcraft might have been able to do it if it had the right bracket placement that would give it the illusion of being much stronger than it was. As it was, it looked doomed from the outset, so there was likely no reason to rally behind it.

That's the main problem for a bandwagon in general, you'd have to have bracket placement that doesn't cause people to write it off as "Oh well, maybe we can get it through a few rounds, but it'll be crushed in the end".

L-Block was special, although you might be able to replicate it with something like... I dunno, Big Rigs, but again, you'd have to find it a place in the bracket where it could last a few rounds for this to kick in.

But yes, I'd say it's much, much harder to form a bandwagon in the games contest.

I've thought this for awhile. I really didn't buy RBY being able to build a bandwagon. The thing with bandwagons is that a big aspect is appeal, and a Tetris block or a giant cube? Why, that'd be hilarious to vote for! Oregon Trail or Battletoads or even RBY just don't have that same appeal. Hell, even blatant joke games like Superman 64 or Shaq Fu wouldn't do well either since they aren't a big enough name. The only game I could see developing a bandwagon is Duke Nukem Forever, and even then I wouldn't have faith in it. And of course there's the possibility it'll never get released in the first place.

Yes, sir! True satisfaction! That's what discipline brings! Even the five court ladies dancing to frog flutes and drums had it, and so did the whirlwind of recycled paper! Computer graphics playing in my head and I like it! I don't support Technicolor parfaits and those snobby little petit forks that sit there uneaten, and my position on that is common knowledge to everyone in Oceania. Now the time has come to return to the great blue sky, where confetti falls like stardust and everyone shaking around the shrine gates with the mailbox and the refridgerator leading the hip hop festival! Anyone who is concerned about expiration dates, step aside now! No one gets in the way of my glory train! They need to really analyze all of the livers of the triangle goose party! Ahhh! This whole festival was put together by twenty third-graders with lotsa hutspa and one panda! You see?! Now I am... truly grand! The ultimate one!
