SMB3 and SMW are equal.

I say SM64 is equal to vote. If SM64 manages to pull the upset, I wouldn't be surprised to see all three Mario games even and fighting for second.

Such a match would be awesome for me to watch as a Mario fanboy, a Nintendo fan, a contest observer, and a human being

If they are all otherwise equal, I would expect SM64 to easily (by which I mean the same manner that SMW just won in) win due to the 2-D games leeching votes.

Another three way Mario games sounds awesome, but even if I root for Sm64 Lttp can also win. After all I gave it 10 in my review.

I'd say the people still voting for LttP (the ones who don't want SM64 to win) still want LttP to win. Seems like you answered your own question, but I may be reading wrong.

I voted for Mario 3 yesterday, but I was rooting for Zelda to make the comeback just because we needed a crazy match. Mario 3 won, and we got a crazy match anyway, so it's all good.

Zelda was generally overshooting its requirements and still failed in the end. Mario64 just barely meeting what it needs to do means it's probably going to need some last hour shenanigans to win.

But it may get them!

Doesn't Mario 64 have a fairly poor last four hours/SNV? I'd still put LttP as the favourite barring an instance of the usual Mario voodoo in the dying minutes.

FFVI will avoid the tripling here, which is another (debatable) indication that OoT would much rather have Mario 64 in the finals. Ocarina has already more than tripled Mario before, but if FFVII can't manage it against VI (with LttP possibly hurting it, to boot), then Ocarina shouldn't come close against a clearly stronger Zelda game.

Pfft, what do you think the best Mario game is? SMB3? Get that obsolete crap outta here. I never touched that game again after the superior SMW came along. SMW? It's the pinnacle of 2d Mario, sure, but i like the open 3d realms of Mario 64 even better.

Mario should keep on cutting till the match is done. Lttp last round was being cut constantly by FF6 during SNV, and we know how mario performs in the SNV

Looks like this is Mario's, which will just raise more questions for next round.

Obviously, Mario 64 will be favored against two 2D Marios from the same era (they were released only about a year apart, right?), but how easily does it need to win before we christen it as the strongest game in the series?

Also, will FFVII hit 50% in the next round?

Hypothetically, if Final Fantasy series' strength was an average strength of all the major FF titles, FFVII would be stronger than the series.

Nothing stops FFX from getting to the final if it advances tomorrow. Brawl, TP, MGS4, and RE4 ain't gonna do it. Brawl's the only game I could see beating it depending on how well Melee stands up to OoT.

No, this makes sense, it's Zelda 1 beating Mario Freaking 3 with the ASV that's confusing.

Depends. I can't favor FFX if it barely advances, as it would take Triple Nintendo SFF and possibly the most severe Stand Out factor to do so. If it takes first, it may as well be a lock.

You know, maybe I'm wrong. It's clear that LttP has lost a step - we just hadn't seen it fully until now because it was involved in SFF matches and against FFVI, which has lost an even bigger step. If age has cost it raw strength and relevance in the eyes of fans, maybe Ocarina actually can obliterate it in the finals. I mean, you show a picture of Ocarina Link against LttP Link...

Mario 64 is really making a comeback attempt! That's two matches in a row most people in this topic called early!

I am very happy to see CT's strength vindicated- it dropped a lot, but then CTDS boosted it back up most of the way to its 2004 strength. CT/LTTP should still be close- CT even has winning chances, who knows.

Feelings on the next few matches:

Tomorrow: I have a feeling RBY is going to impress, and FFX is going to flop. Melee probably flops too and takes last by a good margin.

Friday: I still think it's likely that neither Nintendo game advances, and don't count out RE4 for first yet....MGS3 >= MGS4....why not?

Saturday: Whichever game of LTTP/Mario 64 wins here goes to town on SMB3/SMW, both because they are probably a tad stronger naturally and because they have the advantage in the way LFF goes. FFVII kills them all really badly; if it's FFVII vs. Mario, it could even hit 50%.

I don't think LTTP has lost a step so much as everything outside the 32/64 division was OVERRATED (think Seph/Ganon/Bowser) to start with. It never made sense to me that after FFVII/OOT, it was so long until we got to another 32/64 game, since that ought to be and have been by far the time period.
