Again i'll ask the question, replace SM64 with Chrono Trigger, can LttP win?

No, it may lead at this point, but FFVII is going to rise to heaven now.

I think FFVII is too far ahead to have CT SFF it down to LttP's level.

Just stay close, SM64.

Let's get four days in a row of Zelda losing, just like last BGE*!

people were really underestimating CT..it got a really bad path..FF7 is just a monster this year. CT,LTTP and Mario 64 are all close in strength.
Yesmar | Posted 6/2/2009 9:13:54 PM | message detail
Yeah, Mario 3's win was illegitimate, but so is getting fewer points for LoZ > SMB3 than for SMB3 > LoZ if Zelda had won.

Zelda winning was more important for what it would do to LttP next round than for the extra points. At least for me.

CT probably hurts LttP just as much as it hurts FF7. It wouldn't make a difference based one what we've seen so far this contest.

I believe LttP would've won anyway, so I think this match was all about LoZ vs. SMB3 this round only.

Advantage LTTP right now, SM64 isn't completely out of it yet. FFVI went up on LTTP overnight more than CT went up on SM64 in round 2, and came down less in the day. I can't really believe FFVI can go even with FFVII in the ASV even now.

What the heck? Quarter points and I stayed on the leaderboard? I'm surprised how few people weren't able to get more points from that round. Now I'm really wishing I had the extra 1/4th from Zelda.
LeonhartFour | Posted 6/2/2009 9:17:14 PM | message detail
I suggested that FFVII may look better the stronger the competition gets. Maybe not too far off.

oh Luster

LOL tranny.

then the topic fell off and Zelda went back to doing well.

The topic went up shortly before the 11:20 PM update. Even then, Zelda was still getting some cuts on SMB3. I know I posted in it again about a minute prior to the 11:45 PM update, which was the SMB3 spike. Hard for me to say whether or not that topic really was the cause of the spike or not.

FFVII still kills LTTP with CT there. LTTP, SM64, and CT are probably all really close together. I think they're a small step above SMB3/SMW, though we probably won't get to find out as either LTTP or SM64 will kill them next round.

What Leon suggested is probably true. FFX might not be able to put up 70% on Duck Hunt, Ninja Gaiden, and Galaga (or whatever the hell that third game was).

Also, it's not surprising FFVII is exceeding last round's percentage here. LTTP + SM64 is stronger than SM64 + Goldeneye, but not by all that much because Mario/Zelda overlap is probably a tad more potent than N64 overlap, and Goldeneye is quite strong....like a top 15 game strong. CT is way stronger than FFVI now after CTDS, and is much less susceptible to SFF from VII.

FFVII doing better against strong competition makes sense, if you believe it gets boatloads of anti-votes - the people anti-voting it are more likely to be fans of these games anyway, so the anti-votes are really part of these games' innate strength.

...There's probably something wrong with that logic, but it makes sense to me right now.

Or it looks stronger the more SFF'd the competition gets. It will probably put up even better number next round with 2 Marios and a Mario/Zelda

Contrary to intuition, anti-votes in this format actually seem exaggerated in power if anything. It's really hurt FF7 character in this format before.

And FF7 is doing this despite FF6 doing pretty decent.

red sox 777 | Posted 6/2/2009 9:24:45 PM | message detail
FFVI will probably do its standard day vote collapse and look worse before we're done here. VII's doing about 0.5% better than last round right now, and remember last round it had a very strong board vote (for FFVII, anyway) as Square fans ditched Chrono Trigger to safeguard it against SM64, quite unnecessarily.

No real need to bring anti-votes into it. In 2k4 we had that post-contest poll where 28% said FFVII really was the best game ever. If that were to still hold true, it would mean FFVII has a floor of 28% no matter how many strong games you add in. Then it would of course look better and better the stronger its opponents got.

It might not be that high anymore, but I'm guessing it's still a pretty decent percentage.

Glancing at the Oracle, I didn't see anybody with FF7 above 38%, and those all seem to have had FF6 really low.

This is very good by the Final Fantasy's so far. FF6 is getting SFFed hard but the old-school FF's obviously LFFed much worse. Good to see.

Poll is on the homepage:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/

As of right now, Super Mario World has this match won. But since these matches a 4-ways, the top 2 games will advance to the next round. Super Mario Bros. 3 is in danger of losing to Zelda.

Considering that this is LL that we're talking about, it wouldn't surprise me if a bunch of users from there coordinated to all vote at the same time to create internet drama.
