And now Zelda gets its first cut on SMW. See? The stats topic has to call at least one match in the first 10 minutes every year, and get it wrong. May as well be today!

Yesterday's chart:

Time | SSBB | CoD4 | MGS4 | Fallout 3 | Demographic
EBV | 39.85% | 14.10% | 29.50% | 16.55% | (0:00-0:05)
PHV | 37.01% | 16.17% | 28.76% | 18.06% | (0:00-1:00)
FNV | 34.56% | 16.29% | 29.46% | 20.11% | (1:00-6:00)
BSV | 35.81% | 15.21% | 27.98% | 21.00% | (6:00-9:00)
DSV | 36.19% | 16.21% | 26.72% | 20.88% | (9:00-14:30)
ASV | 38.58% | 17.28% | 23.93% | 20.21% | (14:30-22:00)
SNV | 36.03% | 17.96% | 25.53% | 20.48% | (22:00-24:00)

Excellent board vote and Power Hour for Brawl, as expected. Dropped off at night and gradually rose for the rest of the match, climaxing in a good ASV, as expected. MGS4 with a good night but gradually dropped off for the rest of the match, including nearly a 3% drop during the ASV, ouch. Fallout 3 has an awful board vote and Power Hour as expected, but it's pretty stable from there on out. CoD4 also has an awful board vote and a bad morning vote, but it has a good ASV and second night vote here.

Zelda has already gained .5% since the Power Hour ended. I guess it gets to be the night game today, which means it probably gets wiped during the day.

Zelda has no chance, and it a moronic pick to think it could get through two of this site's three biggest Mario games in the same poll.

Honestly, the only time period I'm really concerned about for that prediction is the DSV- not sure if Zelda can improve on the BSV there. But other Zelda games have a tendency of improving through the DSV, and Mario has a great morning vote, so Zelda can probably do better in the DSV than the BSV.

Buh? That makes no sense. The best possible situation for both of them to rank would be an even split. An uneven split increases the odds of one of them being eliminated

The idea of a 50/50 split in theory means that one game finished first over them both due to the even split and thus one game got eliminated.

We're actually going to get full 3-D remakes of Mario 1, Lost Levels, and Mario 3, so Mario 3 and World will take the ASV to win by 1000000000 votes over Zelda, which will finish a distant 3th.

True, but a 50-50 split is still the optimum situation for both to advance, so if you have them both advancing that can only be a good thing)

Probably won't do much for LoZ. A new Zelda game being announced for a console (like the Wii) would help out LoZ much more than a handheld Zelda game being announced (like Spirit Tracks).

Between 3 AM to 7 AM, Super Mario World cut about 240 votes from SMB3. That should be the toughest time for SMB3 here, so if it can hold on and not be down THAT much after that, it might still come back

To be honest, I doubt there really are any noticeable trends between the two games. SMB3 and SMW is about the biggest SFF match you could possibly set up, so their individual trends should be more or less identical. Which means that cuts and gains are pretty much just random variation.

First couple rounds though, SMB3 is by far strongest in America, and dies in Europe. I don't think that is just random variation, so it should be expected this time as well

I think trends are caused by whatever part of the world has the most control over the voting in a specific time period. Asia has control over the night vote, which is why you see beastly Final Fantasy performances at night. Between SMB3 and SMW, whichever one is best at night will be caused by what part of the world controls this time period and which game they prefer over the other. Zelda does worse than Mario in Asia, so it should be Zelda that should drop with the night vote.

The reason Zelda does so poorly during the 3-7 AM block and FF does so well has less to do with Asians or Europeans voting and more to with most Americans and Canadians being asleep. Therefore, it is unfair to designate that block as a "European vote" or an "Asian vote", since Europeans and Asians vote 24 hours a day as well.

Doing some calculations, it looks like SMW won the rest of the world by 53.4%. So there may be trends, but they would be minimal at best.
