I think I want to see SM64 beat LTTP tomorrow. I like LTTP more, but I want CT to look good (of course), and I'd rather see the 3 Mario games battle it out for strongest Mario game than see LTTP roll over them in a completely uninteresting semifinal. Voting for FFVII though.

Actually, neither of the things I said are impossible, or even all that unlikely. I've always thought the second strongest game had a less than 50% chance of placing in the final- the second strongest character has failed to do so both of the past two years.

On the plus side, I now get half-points instead of quarter-points with LoZ > SMB3 in my bracket...and we're one (pretty big) step away from an incredible Mario-battle, too. The only downside is that LoZ:LttP will definitely be in the championship if it advances tomorrow, which would likely cripple LoZ:OoT the most.

L-Block led Solid Snake in the last forty-eight hours of the contest when it didn't deserve to, so it was only fair for Solid to be rewarded with a similar favor last year...

...Cloud > Link twice confirmed. Don't even ask what happens next year for Link.

Actually, you know, Cloud > Link really wasn't impossible last year. Cloud beat Snake worse in round 4 than Link beat him in the final, suggesting that had people rallied around Cloud instead of Snake, Cloud would have actually beaten Link. Without that, I think it's pretty realistic for Cloud to break 48% on Link in a fair match (no Snake, no Crono, no bandwagoning) and 50% isn't completely impossible.

I'm not sure how I feel about Zelda's position. Those 30 vote cuts are great, those 15 vote losses...aren't.

Well, we're 2/3 of the way through the ASV proper, and Zelda has not yet cut off half of what Mario's lead was at 3. Zelda will keep cutting after 8 PM, but it'll be at a slower rate, so I think Mario looks good here, especially as it has the clutch factor on its side.

Eh...the separation between Link and Cloud has grown bigger every year since 2004 with the projections we have, and FF7 has probably fallen a decent bit over those past five years when it easily took out LoZ:OoT; compare that to how heated of a match they could have one-on-one today and the Nintendo-domination the rest of this contest has shown. The trends say the comparisons between Link and Cloud aren't entirely inaccurate.

Besides, Cloud didn't really have a reason for a bandwagon...Solid did. He was the star in the two most hyped and strongest games of this generation last year, MGS4 denotes the end of his story and legacy, and it was in a favorable position to get people behind him for big upsets. If Solid was ever going to do that well, it was do or die time for him. Cloud's not in a situation anything like that, and he'll have to wait a long time to be such a supportable underdog like that again since he's a former contest champ that's too strong to pull upsets without beating Link. Besides, FF7/Cloud draws quite a bit of hate for being so popular. It'd be hard to get more people on-board to bandwagon Cloud.
