So SSBB made it well past the night-vote and is still breaking 55% on MGS4 before the ASV? This should get even uglier.

At this point in the contest, I thought I would be complaining a lot more about the legitimacy of the contest...but, for it being divided by era, I think we have the best reps for each era advancing (and in the right order, too, aside from maybe SSBM > FFX). Aside from relatively small losses like LoZ:WW being screwed from SFF/LFF and most old NES-games being forgotten, it's been a pretty good clean show so far compared to the Character Battles...now I just hope the rest is like that, too. LoZ, FFX, or MGS4 could each arguably mess that up this round depending on where you'd rank them though, and I doubt FF7 doesn't go into the championship in a favorable position regardless of your opinion of its strength...hopefully these high-profile matches aren't affected too bad.

So I was right about Kingdom Hearts II > Metal Gear Solid 3 and Half-Life 2 > Oblivion, it seems.

How would the Best. FPS. Ever. have done if it was in Oblivion's spot? I can't see anything but last, that's for sure. I wonder how strong HL2 is compared to StarCraft and Mario Galaxy.

Some funny/cool/unexpected round 1 upsets that could happen according to stats:

Pong > Donkey Kong (WOW)
Star Fox 64 > Yoshi's Island (dunno if it'd really happen given that the latter is a Mario game, but...)
Resident Evil > Yoshi's Island (really? I wonder if YI was being held back in its round 1 match.)
Final Fantasy IX > StarCraft (who would've thought?)
Knights of the Old Republic > Metroid Prime (on THIS site? I wonder whether KOTOR is stronger than Vice City now)
Metal Gear Solid 2 > Metroid Prime (heh?)
Knights of the Old Republic > Zelda: Wind Waker (though maybe Wind Waker was SFFd)
Grand Theft Auto III > Zelda: Wind Waker
Half-Life 2 > Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
World of Warcraft > Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
God of War > Halo 2
Half-Life 2 > Oblivion
Tales of Symphonia > Gears of War (funny stuff)

Oh wait, Shadow of the Colossus over Halo 2. That'd be cool. Now, in a perfect world, SotC would've gotten to round 2 and placed 3rd. It's a true reminder of how much we play games. (yes, I've never played it, but I've watched a YouTube walkthrough) There are only 21 games that I would vote for over it, for example.

SMW2:YI had a rather favorable position in R1 by being against three RPGs, one of which was a Nintendo-RPG SMW2:YI was reasonably stronger than. I don't know if SMW2:YI over-performed because of that -- I'm pretty comfortable with about where it's at before SM64 killed it -- but it wasn't in some bad awful place.

After 3 rather boring days (slow comebacks don't seem to do it for me, especially when the match seems over several hours before midnight), tomorrow is one of the biggest matches of the contest so far, despite being all Nintendo. In fact, all 4 of next round's matches look very interesting. Let's go THE LEGEND OF ZELDA!

It's too Nintendo, and it's too old. I'd care if we'd get a chance to see Brawl vs. Melee or how Pokemon would hold up against either, but I won't care much about whatever combo of LoZ/SMB3/SMW we manage to see advance.

Wow Brawl looks awful here. It stands out like a sore thumb and it's barely winning. I'm sure it'll go up, but even still. The votals also seem a little low.

No way in hell does TP get more votes than Brawl, If you put Melee up against any zelda bar LttP and OoT it would win. Brawl>TP so the next match will go somethign like this.

I say we should push for F-Zero GX for next games contest. Would be a cool joke entrant, plus I like the game myself a lot.

Also, get in Elite, TIE Fighter, X-COM: UFO Defense, and Mario Kart Wii.

Why woud F-Zero GX be a joke entry? Just because a game doesn't win doesn't mean it's a joke.

If we ever have another games contest in five or so years I want some Devil May Cry, Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Also Wii Sport/Fit/Play just to see how it does.

TP actually did not impress last round. Look how well Oblivion did on it. MGS3 and RE4 performed LFF on each other due to both being Industrial Revolution games.

I've changed my mind on SSB standing up to OOT with SFF. The hardcore Melee fanbase will support their game, yes, but the casuals that make up the majority of both Smash games' fanbases? Now that the hype is gone, these people are left with a fun multiplayer game against THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME.

Didn't LoZ:TP do better on Oblivion than MGS3 did in R2? Between that, beating RE4 twice, and taking care of both MGS3 and KH2 tells me that LoZ:TP's doing fine. It's followed the road we've set for it fair enough thus far and it's got to deal with SSBB next round so it's understandable if it loses there. There's nothing particularly wrong, strange, or unimpressive with LoZ:TP's performances.

I just have a hard time seeing SSBM stand up next round. LoZ:OoT is the worst Nintendo game to be up against, RBY is packing a very vigilant fanbase, SSBM's mainly fanservice for people who like those games anyway (Link, Young Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, Pikachu, Pika, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Pokeballs...), SSBM's not been as impressive this contest compared to 2004's BGE, SSBB has stolen a lot of SSBM's thunder, and I don't trust the best Gamecube game against the best N64 game or the best Game Boy game -- especially after MP and LoZ:WW looked bad. Even LoZ:TP and RE4 haven't been stealing the show like they had the potential to pre-contest. Only ToS has exceeded expectations for games on the Gamecube. On top of all that, FFX is going to be a very appealing choice for non-Nintendo fans.

I've been torn between FFX or RBY for second place (I'll probably side with FFX -- I've been doubting RBY succeeding all this time so far, anyway...!), but I'm pretty confident in SSBM taking last place...probably with room to spare. SSBB would be a different case, but I don't think Nintendo-fans will flock to save SSBM at this point with this competition.

Unlike the original Xbox the PS3 currently has a large playership rate on GameFAQs. Also MGS is one of the biggest series here and for all we know SSBB could be weaker than what some expect.

I think the reason SSBB and CoD4 aren't gaining as much as we expect is becasue they can really only take percentage from MGS4, and MGS4 isn't just gonna fall off the face of the planet

I'd guess MGS puts up 57-60% on MGS3/4 indirectly, and those two are fairly close. That's really complete guesswork though.
