MGS/GE was more worthy of discussion than Mario 64/GoldenEye. Heck, no one talked about GE > Mario 64 until the List. It didn't happen. That was all the evidence we had for that pick.

Although for the record, Crono didn't even start fighting back with Vincent in the ASV until Vincent was just about to take the lead, and Crono just wouldn't let him do it. In 2007, Vincent blew by Crono and never looked back.

If CT actually keeps fighting with Mario 64 once it's with 25 votes or so, then we'll see.

To me, Mario/Shadow was one of the best matches in 2003 simply because Mario was looking like an idiot. I mean, would you have Tidus breaking 45% on MARIO?

People only brought this up after the List, too. It was naturally assumed that Mario 64 got SFF'd harder. Nobody really thought anything of GE performing better against OoT until the List.

The funny thing that happened is when OoT decided to look better than FF7, no one really decided that, "oh, this might be a tossup" and instead went to "OoT's got the contest locked up now ggnore"

I'll say it again - I'll be surprised if FFX makes the finals. It's got a less than 50% chance of happening IMO. Not so with EVERY NINTENDO GAME ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRACKET

Even with the List, it's not like SM64 performed badly. We seem to only think about the Top 10 for the list, but games like SM64 and FFX were right there. Plus we still don't have any data on the number of entries and the distance between the games on the list. Plus SM64 and FFX had to contend with other games of their series.

Hell, I'd use SM64's position on the list as a testament to its strength.

Speaking of the list, San Andreas is well up there on the list and this is a year after it was released so "newness" factor shouldn't have been too much of an issue. And in this contest I really didn't see much of a difference in any of the GTAs performances. Are people still sticking to Vice City being the most popular in the series (something I obviously disagree with)?

I think that had more to do with people feeling OoT was legitimately stronger and would win a 1v1 match right after the real finals. It was hard for me not to give FFVII the edge when, as you said, the #2 or #3 Nintendo game was guaranteed to be there, and when even the fourth entry might very well be neutral or Nintendo as well.

By the way, Mario isn't all that great at the ASV anymore, and the bulk of his ASV strength is concentrated in the earlier hours. This means CT should be able to stop Mario's momentum around 8 instead of past 10 with Vincent, and then attempt a comeback. Now, Mario will probably be up way too much by that time for this to matter.....but he only gained 900 on Zack last year starting from 300 up and Zack's ASV is horrid, yes, BELIEVE.

This match is only REALLY telling me that RBY should lose tomorrow. One, I expect LoZ:OoT to hurt it more than LoZ:MM and GS combined. Two, it was already a few percent under MGS with LoZ:MM and GS in the match, and MGS is returning. Three, if FF7 can beat SM64 this badly, LoZ:OoT should be able to beat RBY this badly too before SFF...and I don't see why LoZ:OoT can't SFF a game it could probably 65-35. Pokemon's hardcore fanbase is the only thing that can save it, but I think being in a match with LoZ:OoT is too much to ask now. It doesn't help that there is another big RPG in FF8 there, too, though that may not matter.

Nah, I still think CT can keep it within 1000 by the end. Look at the shape of Mario 64's ASV in round 1: it hit its peak percentages the first hour of the ASV and fell from there culminating in an awful SNV.

The graph shows that Mario 64 did pretty much the same from 15:00 to 20:00 and CT making a slight improvement after 19:00
