If I remember correctly, FF6 held a 200 vote lead for a few hours in 2004. I'd open the poll updater and check, but a giant list of insta-updates crashes my browser every time.

Heh, bullocks. LttP is validating its Top 5 status right here after two instances where it couldn't really shine. The tripling on LA is practically enough; the carefree win over FFVI is just icing on the Zelda cake.

Looks like a very expected result so far. FF6 will rise like a point by the end of the match (probably rise like a couple points before giving one away), making this result very much in line with expectations.

You're probably right. Even Mario challenging FFVII tomorrow won't surprise anyone. The 2004-2009 stuff probably has the best shot of generating excitement, although the Poke/MGS/FFVIII battle could still be good.
