SMB3
is fighting every update now, and there's only so much World can
skyrocket with only FFIV willing to donate percentage. Sonic ruins

They're
the only games in that poll that share a system and GE's a
N64-exclusive that hasn't aged as well for people as it would like. Only people who didn't really like GoldenEye to begin with say it's aged poorly! It gets a lot of nostalgia votes anyway. Mario 64 gave CT an unchallenged whoopin' in what was seen as a 1v1 match with two distractions (one glance at SotN and YI's percentages confirm this) I honestly think YI being in that poll helped Mario 64 if anything. If you add a neutral entry or even a non-Mario Nintendo game, Mario 64's going to be the one that suffers the most. And calling for Mario 64 to get 44% on FFVII despite GoldenEye is pretty bold. honestly think YI being in that poll helped Mario 64 if anything. If

going to be the one that suffers the most. I was arguing for that to affect SMW today after R2, and, well...here it is going toe-to-toe with SMB3. Still, SM64 and SSBB are in similar situations and it might still be a factor for one of them. It's interesting only SM64 out of those three got to smash a weaker game from its own series though; that could be a difference-maker for this theory of mine. Ah well, with SMW rocking today I'm setting the theory aside until further notice. --- BT > Harrich lol me |

these games are just going back and forth right now. Both Mario 3 and

I have no problem with admitting Mario World is strong. The thought
just occurred to me as I was reading HaRR's post. This is probably
legit, but if Mario World basically kills the poll next round,
bandwagoning it is! Which means we could end up with Mario World in the

said 10 minutes into this match (on AIM with KP) that Mario World would
be much more likely to get screwed over by Sonic and FF4's presence
than Mario 3. I know a lot of you don't buy into three games of the
same era making a difference, but I do. I find it hard to believe Mario
World couldn't win this match if you removed Sonic/FF4 and put in Zelda
1 and Mario 1, because then you'd have two NES games dragging Mario 3
down. We'll see soon enough. As for the final, it's a tossup between Brawl, Final Fantasy X and Resident Evil 4. I still think Ocarina of Time going to murder Pokemon (or at least hurt it enough to give MGS or FF8 a *clear* advantage), FFX is largely dependent on what MGS/FF8/Melee can do, and Melee is going to get Ocarina'd. Frankly, the winner of Brawl/RE4 has a bye into the final. we get FF8 advancing, we could have Melee advancing with OOT thanks to
a FF8/FF10 split, which would lead to Brawl/Melee/OOT/?. whatever that

Besides,
honestly, I think most of us were more sure on Samus beating Mario than
we were about FF2/4 advancing in today's situation because we haven't
had a BGE in the past five years and this format is just too hard to
REALLY predict right. I'm not lumping this with Mario/Samus, but I don't believe this. HM and yoblazer and yourself were quite adamant about FFIV advancing - I believe HM said he'd be "shocked" otherwise and you guaranteed FFIV would advance in 725. Don't make me go quote hunting! I don't know why Zelda 1 suddenly looks good next round - if there's any LFF here, it's extraordinarily minimal. Why should there suddenly be massive overlap next round, and have another Nintendo game escape it to advance, when FFIV can do absolutely nothing here? To call for massive Mario LFF was suspect before today but is downright silly at this point. Zelda 1 will do better because it's clearly stronger than FFIV, but why on earth should it beat Mario 3 or World or both? --- Mustache...and Green... http://backloggery.com/rpguy96 |

Eh,
Zelda has some inherent advantages, such as being a much stronger game
than FFIV and almost assuredly going into the match with a picture
disadvantage or at least a damned decent picture oh hay prove me wrong
