It gained 4% because its first hour is bad. Other than the first hour, it's balanced. That doesn't mean every time period is exactly the same, but Fallout 3 doesn't shift much after that first hour.

I think generic baddies CAN work if they're regulars to the series. For enemies in just one game though, hmmm.....

For what it's worth, I think it looks pretty good. It feels a little inconsistent with the logos' alignment, but I don't know what would necessarily be best due to where the people are and working in angles like that.

Man, we needed more games conducive to pictures with bright colors in this division. Brawl stands out more than it should.

Brawl needs to have a Snake in the pic. Young Snake vs. Old Snake for the win! Preferably young Snake in a cardboard box and Old Snake in a drum can.

So, any chance Tetris blows out MM2 tonight? We've seen Metroid > MM2 and Metroid was devastated by SMB/LoZ...and although LoZ smashed Tetris in 2004, I wonder how much worse it and SMB can really beat it. Tetris does have legit fans, it's just that people generally aren't crazy about the puzzle-genre so it's got a lot of votes it can lose very easily without the entire Tetris-fanbase being SFF'd. If that happens, MM2's going to look even worse than it did in the first two rounds.

Depends on your definition of a blowout. There really won't be enough percentage to go around for a huge blowout.

Besides, I'd say that Zelda and Mario hurt Tetris to a greater degree than they hurt Mega Man 2.

When there is that much SFF going around with both MM2 and Tetris having such low percentages, anything is possible. I'd say MM2 "Blowing out" Tetris (like 15% to 10%) is just as likely as Tetris doing the same.

Mario World held MM3 to 9%. Mario/Zelda held Metroid, which is likely stronger than MM2 based on what we've seen, to 9%. If MM2 hits 10% tomorrow, I'd call it a good performance. If it manages anything in the low teens, I'd be stunned.

I'd wager Tetris isn't that much stronger than Metroid, head-to-head. It may not get killed as badly as Metroid did.

And then again, it may get killed even WORSE.

Tetris stands out a lot; it's so much different than the other three games. I'd expect it to beat up MM2 far worse than it did last round. I think MM2 is going to get Metroid'd.

Maybe, but common sense dictates that Mega Man 2 is a good deal stronger than Mega Man 3, and Mario 1 does not quite have the strength that Mario World has.

And you guys are seriously underestimating Tetris here. Tetris should be around as strong as Final Fantasy 2, based off of their performances on Mega Man. Yeah, FF2 scored slightly higher, but MM2 > MM3, and there were 2 other NES games in the poll with MM3, while Tetris had to deal with other icons of gaming in its poll.

Analysis

You know I could copy last round’s analysis change a few names, subtract a couple of percent each from the winning games and you’d get this match. Out of the round three matches this one is the least hyped as the results for this match have been spoiled from last round. Still this match can be used as a gauge of whether or not round 2 Mario was a fluke or if they are the real things.

Like last round Super Mario Bros. should take first rather easily. Even if the opponents favoured Super Mario Bros. last round and are against it this round when the two bottom games are barely getting a combined total of 20% there’s not going to be much of a change here. The sad thing here is that no matter how well the game does here I don’t see it holding up to big Mario titles and it will likely be crushed next round.

While a setback last round The Legend of Zelda will still take second again. There were only two games in this division with half decent strength and here they are. Sure others wouldn’t be crushed in a non-generation setting, but the only two that could ever hit the top 20 were Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. SFF matches always tend to be a bit whacky so it is possible for The Legend of Zelda to do better here compare to last round, but winning is mostly out of the question.

Tetris is in big trouble in this match. As you know games like Tetris fold to games with high name value and it’s up against two games with the biggest name value in the division. The SFF could be so bad that Tetris could lose to Mega Man 2 for third place. Of course Mega Man 2 is going to be SFF just the same and Tetris does have a buffer to work with.

The final Mega Man game will go down in an old fashion low percent match. It has a chance to not be totally embarrassed and defeat Tetris for third, but it has to hope that it suffers more SFF than Mega Man 2 does. Of course working with such small percent anything could happen.

Doing the x-stats is going to hilarious. The third strongest game may not even break 20% on Super Mario Bros. Sure SFF is to blame, but more than half the division will probably be below the fodder line (less than 20% on the champ) if given a neutral match. Well at least the rest of the round has at least something interesting about the match.

I'd love to see that kid with the pic. It'd probably blow his mind that these series used to be so 8-bit. Hell, it'd blow his mind to know that this was what games looked like in the 80s. His mind would also be blown when I shot him in the head for being so ignorant.

Anyway, this is pretty much fair all around. I've seen some people whining that Tetris has an advantage because it stands out so much.

The whole pic is covered in blocks! It blends in too much if anything. If you wanna talk about standing out, then look at the freaking octopus thing.

The Octorok looks like a kamehameha to me, though. Man, they really could have used a different enemy (a skeleton, or...Pig Ganon, baby! You know you want it!).

Having made the pic, there was no way SMB couldn't have the advantage in this kind of theme. Goombas are too well-known, Octorocks don't look like that much anymore, I doubt many gamers around here remember Metools well (though they're the coolest here, period), and it's a Tetris block that's not shaped in an L (squares were the real enemy). I tried to make it pretty even, but...I mean, it's a Goomba. What generic enemy can compete with it besides Koopa Troopas?

Yeah, the fact that Goombas have looked virtually the same for 24 years gives SMB the pic advantage. That, and the fact that the title blocks for the other 3 games flow into the background or are not very readable at a quick glance, while SMB's title block just jumps out at you. In terms of pic factor I would go SMB > Tetris > Zelda > Mega Man 2.
