Man, I just saw the first 2 pics for round 2 and they're already the worst pics this year.

Maybe having people submit pictures for just 1 game is a better idea.

I'm surprised at how horrible the SMB pic is. So cluttered and biased towards Zelda/SMB.

Then you have the first of what will likely be many "artsy" pictures that some assclown took 3 seconds to make in photoshop using a stock background.

I hate Sailor Bacon so very very much.

Brawl > CoD4 isn't surprising to me (the margin kinda is)

It's Galaxy being so weak. I know some of this is SFF, but this is 2 rounds where it's disappointed. Now it's even losing to GTAIV...blah

The two big Nintendo flops being Prime and Galaxy...I don't even know what to say to that other than "augh"

It's really weird MP and SMG are both flops, considering they're each GotY's here and they were each responsible for bringing back old-school franchises with a bang. For all the praise and award each of them got and the hot streak Nintendo's got, it's amazing how that's worn off for those two particular games.

Jesus, this Galaxy doubt is ridiculous. Why exactly are we judging it off an SFF match? This tells us nothing about the game's actual strength - pretty much all we know is that it's stronger than Pokemon DP and weaker than Brawl. I'd take DP over most of the things people are listing to beat Galaxy (Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, etc.), so Galaxy would beat them without question.

I'm not going to update the sig, for the record, in case BT changes his mind. He's had time enough to think of one better and he didn't.

Bioshock and Portal/Orange Box were quite close together in both R1 and the multi-GotY from 2007, and Orange Box got ~2% less on CoD4 than Halo 3 did. That said, Portal has stayed more relevant and Halo 3 might have still been benefiting from its hype at that point (though it's a stretch). Throw in that Portal's multi-platform while Halo 3 is a 360-exclusive, and we could see it happen. Halo 3's the safe bet, but it's not certain.

Oh, and there are also the performances from the other Halo games; Halo 1 lost to LoZ:WW despite SFF and Halo 2 let Okami lead it in the night. It's not like Halo 3 can't bomb here too.

What happened to SSBB in the GotY-polls, too? This should have never ever struggled with a PS3-exclusive.

I think people keep looking at that the wrong way. It's okay to admit that MGS4 is strong. It really is. Don't let the PS3-exclusive tag throw you off.

MGS4 still has something to prove to me, but I can buy it being a beast (or even the strongest in its series). Despite being a PS3 exclusive, it had great sales and was very well received by the fanbase. Also, and I didn't really think about this until after this match started, but fans might simply have a lot more vested emotions in 4. Isn't it the first example of a huge-name series actually ending?

The problem with MGS4 is that it can't really impress until it goes up against Brawl. FO3 flopping isn't impossible, though it'll be a strong argument.

The MGS series isn't actually over. The story that started with MGS (or MG1) reached a conclusion, but a new MGS game is gonna be announced within the next week here.

@HaRRich: Yes, I do indeed find it quite ironic how three GOTY winners at this very site have all turned into massive disappointments (well I personally think that Final Fantasy Tactics was a bigger bomb than Metroid Prime was). Both MP and SMG both have a good amount of critical acclaim from most other websites and have aged very, very well; Super Mario Galaxy I think has been in the top 30 in every "best game ever" list published after its release. The problem is probably that most people on this site didn't really care about either franchise in the first place. That, and both MP and SMG (and OoT and TP as well, come to think of it) were released in November of their respective years (seems Nintendo really loves that month), making it easier to lock a GOTY award with the games fresh in our memories.

I will state another opinion now by saying that Smash actually gets repetitive faster than most Nintendo games. Discuss.

Hmmm...Call of Duty 4 wasn't even able to cut Brawl overnight, unless I missed it. The closest I saw was within like 10 votes. Good job with the night vote there, SSBB.

That's neverminding the Series Contest, too -- SMB got surprisingly close to FF compared to expectations.


D2 > GTA4, CoD4 > Halo, and...that's a matter of which Nintendo game that shouldn't get SFF-advantages gets the SFF-advantage. I'll side with LoZ:WW for now. Either way, SSBB looks pretty golden; it's got a higher percentage against two neutral games that are probably stronger than SSBM's two and it SFF'd SMG harder than SSBM SFF'd LoZ:WW despite SMG having a warmer reception than LoZ:WW. That's nice to have on the resume...

...so, what happens to everybody's Top Ten lists now? Are there two SSB-games in contention, do you replace SSBM with SSBB, stick with SSBM > SSBB for awhile longer, or what?
