Analysis

In an attempt to grab two spots in the division final the Playstation 2 games took over this match giving us an all Playstation 2 affair. These are the four strongest Playstation 2 games in this era and they will battle it out over which is the superior game. Also with the contest heating up games are going to need to step it up if they want to rank in the top 20.

With an impressive performance last round Final Fantasy X should take first rather easily. Even if it didn’t being the most popular Playstation 2 game on GameFAQs would still have made it the favourite in this match. It’ll be interesting to see how it’ll do and whether or not it can ride the Ocarina of Time wave to the finals. It is also possible that it could SFF Kingdom Hearts in this match effectively eliminating it from the tournament.

I had Vice City in second in my bracket, but since the second round apparently hates me I’ll be getting this wrong as well. In other people’s eyes Vice City impressed, but in my eyes it failed to do well enough against Kingdom Hearts in order to capitalize on possibility that Kingdom Hearts is going to be SFF. For it to place now Kingdom Hearts would almost have to equal Final Fantasy X before getting SFF. The game will probably take last place, third at best though it won’t be crushed and left for dead.

The fight for second is really debatable and I’m surprised that there hasn’t been much talk about it. Actually all matches after the 98-00 division haven’t been discussed into much detail. Between Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear Solid 2 Kingdom Hearts is probably the stronger game though with Final Fantasy X it is at a disadvantage. Even if Kingdom Hearts avoids SFF the LFF should be enough to put it below Metal Gear Solid 2.

Despite not being anything special in this contest if Metal Gear Solid 2 can advance here the Metal Gear series will be the only series to have all of its games represented in round 3. Still advancing is far from being a lock. Kingdom Hearts was pretty impressive last round and if it is indeed close to Final Fantasy X LFF may not be enough for Metal Gear Solid 2 to steal the win. Also with all the games being from the Playstation 2 we could see something whacky that no one predicted.

Final Fantasy X wants Kingdom Hearts to lose here because if it advances any hopes that Final Fantasy X had of defeating Super Smash Bros. Melee would be over. I also hope that people begin talking about the rest of this round since the 98-00 division is over because we are heading towards a few interesting matches.

The last three are borderline.

Why no Fallout 3 at the bottom? It did like 48.5% on MGS4, and if MGS4 is like 14/15th, why not fallout 3 at the very bottom of the top 20?

I think MGS4 is the strongest MGs. I seem to be the only one though, but its done more to impress me in the Goty matches and its first round match then MGS1 has.

Believe it or not, the whole Oblivion/ToS/WoW affair involves tomorrow's match a little bit. If Diablo II comes out like a beast, then I can see that it was losing votes to KotOR and than deduce that Oblivion and WoW will split votes. Otherwise, I dunno what to expect. Here are my current predictions for the rest of round 2, though I will still do full analyses.

Final Fantasy X > Kingdom Hearts (have Vice City taking 2nd in my bracket)
Super Smash Bros. Melee > Diablo II (have Halo > SSBM in my bracket)
Metal Gear Solid 3 > Oblivion (have GTA: SA > MGS3 in my bracket)
Zelda: Twilight Princess > Resident Evil 4 (have RE4 > Half-Life 2 in my bracket)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl > Call of Duty 4 (have Mario Galaxy taking 2nd in my bracket)
Metal Gear Solid 4 > Fallout 3 (looking good for now)

If today's match continues to unfold the way it is doing so, then I will end up with 145 points in my bracket and 163 for predictions.

Yes, and the reason is that CJayC decided to put the sprite round in 2005 in round 4 instead of round 3 like it is in every other year!

Seriously though, this is absolutely correct. Trends do not equal strength, and games generally do not affect the trend relationships of other games in the poll by being there. If you have two games, a day vote game and a night vote game, the day vote game isn't going to go up less on the night vote game because a third game, a day vote monster, is in the poll. It will hurt both games' day votes, and their previous trends are preserved relative to each other.

What the hell has happened to StarCraft? It did well in the original contest and on the list, and all of a sudden it bombs here? What the hell?

KH seems a lock for second if it doesn't have anyone else to share its bat**** insane ASV with.

KH has a weak power hour and night vote, which is what MGS is good at. By the time KH could start moving here, MGS may have too large of a lead for KH to overturn. And so far in this contest, we haven't seen any massive comebacks yet. The best I've seen was Halo cutting off about a 1000 votes from Diablo II.

After seeing how much the MM games have absolutely sucked this contest, there's absolutely no chance in hell I'd call Tetris a Top 20 game. It didn't beat MM2 by nearly enough.
