FFVII's Board Vote never fails to impress me, looking at it a few seconds in, I thought it was only at 40%. Then I realized that was Goldeneye, and that FF7 wasn't actually placing yet (Mario Kart had 2nd).

I knew Mario RPG has a cult fanbase, hell its one of the few games my own parents are able to play and don't feel silly about it (for some reason they feel childish about playing Super Mario World, i have no idea why...).

I never understood why there was so much doubt about SMRPG, never did, even back in 2k4.

Some of that was probably guided by my own favoritism, but, I looked at it back then and went, "Nintendo/Mario + Square + RPG? We've got a recipe for success here!" to the point where I thought the infamous SF2 match was an underperformance by SMRPG.

Sure, looking at SF2 now, the 2k4 match doesn't look so impressive, but SMRPG's Round 1 here meant more.
