The difference here is this is something new rather an old idea that became useless by the end of 2003.

Twice in a row now, LA has proven to be worth somewhere in the mid-40s against Final Fantasy VI. I'm not sure how a match against Wind Waker would play out, but regardless, I now feel pretty good about calling it a top four Zelda game (because there's no way the original takes it directly). Needless to say, I feel pretty vindicated after people laughed at me when I called it an upper tier Zelda! You guys need to play it more.

I don't know who wins with LA and Zelda indirectly, but I can't see many fans of the series taking Zelda over LA in a direct matchup.

I don't trust those early games against their more recent brothers. Those NES Mega Mans would die against X, we saw what happened to FF1 against only a slightly more recent FF, and I think we all get the feeling that Mario 1/Mario 3 is going to look very ugly in a few rounds. I'd take the original Zelda over Adventures of Link no problem, but I'm not even sure if I'd side with it over Majora's Mask.

I'd say it's more a case of LA's strength. FFVI didn't look bad against MMX or Sonic, and it's got a similar percentage against Mortal Kombat as it did last time. These first two matches are definitely the best reads we're gonna get on it, though, so I guess it'll be left up to debate.

FFVI looked fine against MMX as well, maybe people weren't ready to accept handheld games to have power. I'd still take FFVI over SMW.

It's doing worse against Sonic 2 than SMW, which it would have beaten comfortably in 2004.

Maybe something weird just happened in LttP/FFVI. The picture for Link was pretty bad, but FFVI had Amano art IIRC (which *should* be a reason for it to overperform, but people have bad taste) too so who knows. E3 had already happened by that point, but maybe it was a slow build for Zelda hype that year.

That's a pretty decent boost, a bit more than I'd be willing to attribute to random variation. It might be a combination of FFVI's bad picture and MMX overlapping a bit more with Nintendo that Sonic does.

I think so as well. It was always hard for me to buy that performance being legit (something about FFVI being worth 47%+ on Chrono Trigger just didn't sit right with me). Even if it is weaker relative to LttP this time around, though, I'm still confident the triple Nintendo split pulls it through to a win.

Yeah, MM is exactly the wrong kind of game to take advantage of the RBY/GS overlap. We already saw how MM3 took advantage of overlap with another Ninty game in the poll.

...Which just means that SC's chances are 3% while MM's chances are 1%. I still think neither have a shot at advancing.

What do you define as a World of Hurt? I think RBY doubles GSC (which is enough to beat MM by a very comfortable margin), but I doubt it enters 70-30 territory.
