yeah I'm with Leonhart on this one. the only truly weird one was the Kirby one and he lead Cloud for an hour. the end of the contests in fourways just seem completely whack, nothing like what they're supposed to be. I wouldn't put that one on Sonic.

the only other one you can really argue is Zidane > Shadow, and I'd be fine with just throwing Shadow under the bus there. he did have a particularly poorly received title, not to mention the general decline of Sonic over the years.

Remember, Auron beat Sonic handily to the point where isn't even debatable that Auron would beat Sonic one on one. Sonic is weak now. Frankly, I'm surprised he's still as strong as he is. He hasn't produced a decent game in over 10 years and even those games from the Genesis aren't really that fun. Sonic should be, in theory, glorified fodder.

Alright, I'm not going to even dispute this (despite maybe arguing that Sonic seems to look even worse when thrown up against Nintendo), but we all seem to be in agreement that this is the first Sonic entry in the last three years that hasn't ultimately looked like crap. Now, I'm sitting here wondering why, and I think it's gotta go beyond just "SFII sucks that bad," because even SFII is holding up better than some people expected.

What I am trying to say is that this is a VERY DISAPPOINTING PERFORMANCE FROM MARIO 3, AND I WANT THE GUY WHO PEGGED IT AT 60% TO ADMIT IT.

Why do people keep bringing up this match for Shadow?! EVERYONE looked like crap against Pyramid Head in that match. Why do people always fixate on Shadow in it? The weird one there was definitely PH, not Shadow. Shadow didn't do any worse against Auron than Tails did in '03, which is good enough to be above the fodder line by a very safe margin.

I don't think this is an awful showing from Mario 3, but it's not anywhere near impressive. 60% was never gonna happen, but the fifth strongest game on the site not being able to clear 50% on this pack is probably disappointing. Doesn't matter too much in the long run, though.

60% is an awful prediction for Mario 3. SFF'd Sonic 1 > SFF'd Donkey Kong Country and SF2 > Doom. if Mario 3 got 60% you'd be calling for it to rock LTTP.

Shadow didn't do any worse against Auron than Tails did in '03, which is good enough to be above the fodder line by a very safe margin.

But the fact that Shadow did the same against Auron as Tails IS bad. The guy was supposed to be on the same level as Knuckles and went 50/50 with Tidus in 2004. Tidus owned the mess out of Tails last year.

But like I said, you can't draw anything conclusive about Sonic against Nintendo in this format because Sonic is the ONLY character in the last couple of years from the Sonic series NOT to face a Nintendo character in this format, and the only one he's faced was a bandwagon-boosted Kirby.

but yeah, this isn't a great result. I thought 50% was a fine result but Mario 3's gone a little bit under that. I wouldn't call it disasterous or anything though.

First, I was joking. That was why there was a >_> in that post.

Second, Sonic 3 & Knuckles did not lose to Super Metroid and Sumper Mario Kart. Sonic 3 did. The joke is/was that Sonic 3 & Knuckles is far stronger than Sonic 3 alone, and that it should have been included in the bracket in the place of Sonic 3 and that it wasn't is completely to blame for Sonic 3's horrible performance.

While I wasn't serious when I was calling for SMB3 to push 60%, I had been hoping for 55%. That it's under 50% is disappointing to me, but that could be because with so many routs left and right, I've just started expecting them out of habit.

The funny thing is, you COULD make a good case for S3&K being much stronger than S3 by its lonesome, seeing how Sonic and Knuckles was the best game of the original 2D installments by far. Who knows if it'd perform better than S3? :p

I'd guarantee S3&K being stronger than S3 by a good margin.

Actually, I was almost going to ask if anyone thought S3&K would have any strength of note beyond just Sonic 3, or if the idea that someone would vote for S3&K but not Sonic 3 was just absurd. However, I didn't want to derail the conversation.

This performance along with SMB1 doing so well has me really worried about SMB3 making the final now. I'm still confident that it won't have any problem getting passed LttP with LoZ in the poll, but it's starting to look like it won't even get there. I'd consider LoZ and FF1/4 the favorites to advance over the Mario games at the moment.

Yeah, I have SMB3 in the finals but if we get SMB/LoZ/SMB3/FF4, it is looking quite possible we get FF4 > LoZ. If MM3 wins tomorrow though, SMB3 is safe for the finals.

I'd buy it. I've actually played through the DKC games and know about their impact, so I figured anyone arguing for Diddy's game to be stronger than the original was probably going to be incorrect. I know zilch about Sonic's older games, so I just went with the overwhelming majority opinion that 2 would be the strongest (or at least stronger than 1). It also was the one that got into the first bracket and I think it was higher on the list, so that certainly helped a bit.

Haha. I had a White Mage as the fourth, but figured it was more important to cut her off in favor of Black Mage! Shoulda restarted and made it Fighter, Black Mage, White Mage.
