'Oh, and who here is thinking, "to hell with my bracket!!!?" I sure am.' Me, I've got LoZ > SMB for next round as well. I have Sonic 3 and San Andreas going to the divisional final and Metal Gear Solid getting to the quarters (past FF8 and R/B/Y). The only thing that can save me is my crazy Final Fantasy IV to the semis upset. From now on I'm just rooting for my favourites...anyone else think Call of Duty 4 might make it through the divisional final? |

Well,
Europe is favoring Mario, as expected. The weekend morning vote will
get started over the next couple of hours.....but given Mario's
strength in the morning, it could take a while for Zelda's day vote to
get going. Should improve throughout the rest of the match if
SMB3/Zelda trends can be believed though. --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |

I
have Metal Gear Solid getting to the finals and Grand Theft Auto: San
Andreas getting to the quarterfinals. I also have The Legend of Zelda
> Super Mario Bros. for this division's finals. Call me crazy, but I
still think Metal Gear Solid has a chance of getting to the finals. |

SNES 1. Zelda: A Link to the Past 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Final Fantasy VI 4. Super Mario World 5. Super Metroid FFVI wasn't exactly impressive, so I'd put it behind SMW at the moment. After SM's massive failure in its match, I don't see it in the Top 5. I'd probably give its spot to FFIV. So I'm thinking: 1. Zelda: A Link to the Past 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Super Mario World 4. Final Fantasy VI 5. Final Fantasy IV GCN 1. Super Smash Bros. Melee 2. Resident Evil 4 3. Zelda: Wind Waker 4. Metroid Prime 5. Tales of Symphonia I'm not sure I agree on MP > ToS. I'd probably put ToS at 4 and Prime at 5. ToS beat GTA: SA, while Prime couldn't beat GTA: VC. I still don't understand how VC could possibly be stronger than SA. I mean, I prefer VC, but it's pretty obvious the majority prefers SA. Also, technically you could add TP here as well. The other consoles look fine to me. --- A pro isn't someone who sacrifices himself for his job. That's just a fool. - Reno, FFVII |

LinkMarioSamus | Posted 5/10/2009 9:10:11 AM | message detail |
@Ultimaphazon: Well, you're probably right about the SNES. I was blindsided by THE LIST. 1. Zelda: A Link to the Past 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Super Mario World 4. Final Fantasy IV 5. Final Fantasy VI Okay, and about the GCN. First of all, we don't know Metroid Prime's true strength; it was (r?)SFFd by Wind Waker in the last contest and held back by Paper Mario this time. And second, Vice City actually had a higher vote total than San Andreas (and Metroid Prime also had a higher vote total than San Andreas and GTAIII I think). So I think that the GCN part is justified. |
xp1337 | Posted 5/10/2009 9:22:44 AM | message detail |
Well,
if we're going to go back into 2k4 for Prime, there's still the
Half-Life match. But then, it's not like Half-Life went out and
impressed or anything, so that's probably not worth much. Anyway, at
this point the 2k4 stats and results are just not looking like a good
place at all to turn to anymore, especially anything in Division 128. And if there's one thing I'd put even less stock into than the Top 100 list (why did we give that any credibility in the first place?), it's vote totals. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? Votals seem like a good indication of strength to me. Unless we see Twilight Princess flop against, say, Call of Duty 4. Anyways, this is tomorrow's match, in a nutshell. Prediction: Super Mario Bros. 3 > Sonic the Hedgehog Bracket: Super Mario Bros. 3 > Street Fighter II Favorites: Super Mario Bros. 3 > Sonic the Hedgehog Favorites Bracket: Super Mario Bros. 3 > Sonic the Hedgehog Younger Brother's Favorites: Street Fighter II > Super Mario Bros. 3 And the match after that, though I will still do a full analysis tomorrow. Prediction: Super Mario World > Final Fantasy IV Bracket: Super Mario World > Final Fantasy IV Favorites: Super Mario World > Final Fantasy IV Favorites Bracket: Super Mario World > Final Fantasy IV |

Yeah,
Ulti, that unblockable Seth move is a throw that just looks like a
physical. Nothing terribly cheap about him. Dizzy and Sol are worse
depending on the situation (aren't they always in gold-mode or pseudo
gold-mode when they're bosses? Or is he talking about GG/GGX?). Figures though-- when Ulti's dishing out absurd overreactive complaints about a game you pretty much know it's because it kicked his ass. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I
get what Ulti is saying, sort of. Compared to HD Remix, SFIV looks like
crap, since that game is the closest to a perfect SF we'll ever get
short of going the Guilty Gear route (sans Akuma, of course). However,
that doesn't mean the game is great. And complaning about Seth is
ridiculous, really. If you want bad, take a look at Gill, Rugal, or

It's just like everyone else said - SFIV pretty is SF2 with updated graphics. And Seth is cheap as CPU. For humans though he absolutely sucks. Overall the game is extremely balanced but Seth is pretty damn bad, he takes way too much damage. To beat CPU Seth you have to attack at mid-range - stay too far away and he uses Sonic Booms, get too close and he slams you. Attacking from mid-range with leg sweeps works well. And really, it's assuredly just like red sox said with the cnet thing - if SB had really wanted 1v1s, we'd have them. --- gamefaqscontests.com gamefaqscontests.com/gallery |

"After this, would you take SMB over SMW or SM64? How about indirectly? " I'd take SMB over SMW, both indirectly and directly, and by a decent margin, but I'd say SM64 is revolutionary enough and strong enough to resist SFF and win through its raw strength. |

And really, it's assuredly just like red sox said with the cnet thing - if SB had really wanted 1v1s, we'd have them. The big problem with Seth is he is different from any other SF boss (or any fighting game boss, for that matter). Usually with the final fighting game boss you cannot run in fists-a-flying because you will get your ass handed to. You need to take it slow, dodge the attacks and know when to strike. With Seth, you NEED to run in fists-a-flying putting Seth on the defensive. If you give him any breathing room he'll nail some super-powerful specials and take you down in no time. With Ryu, I had to spam flying fierce kicks and sweeps to take him down: that's all I used. I think Capcom did that on purpose to throw off the SF game vets. --- Today's Subliminal Thought Is: |
