SMB/LoZ could certainly get 80+% here, although I don't know about 100K votes. NG should get getting last place factored and it was already pathetic enough. Both NG and Metroid will be getting double SFFed. Only thing holding SMB/LoZ back might be LFF, but that shouldn't hurt them in an all-NES games match.

To condemn creative for taking that pick is really trying to harass him about about something none of us know for sure (yes, including you). For how you're ragging on him

What SMB needs to turn the match into a rout is MUSIC, not pics. Zelda has a good theme, but SMB is waaaaay too good to compete with. :p

Creative: I know. The Zelda theme is one of the most beautiful and inspiring pieces in gaming, especially the version done by Yngwie Malmsteen, which is just unbelievable. However, if you pitted the two themes against each other, SMB's theme would hand LoZ's a beatdown for the ages.

If Tetris had its music playing here, it'd beat its percentage from last round.

Match XXXIV: Super Mario Bros. vs. Ninja Gaiden vs. The Legend of Zelda vs. Metroid

Ninja Gaiden – 12.58%
Duck Hunt – 10.61%
Galaga – 6.26%

The Legend of Zelda – 61.28%
Metroid – 18.63%
Contra – 12.70%
Dragon Warrior III – 7.40%

Analysis

It’s the match we’ve all been waiting for, the clash of the titans in this weak division. Last round we saw them crushing their opponents into submission, but now they both have a real match. While they should have met in the third round having two crushing victories is not needed in round two, though Metroid should have been thrown in the upper half of the bracket. You kind of have to feel sorry for their opponents as it’s possible to see both of them in single digits once this is over.

While Ninja Gaiden is the odd ball in this match there is no way the game is going to avoid last or single digits. With two weak opponents Ninja Gaiden was only strong enough to just stay above the 10% mark; now with two of the strongest games in the division in this match the game has no chance. We could see Prince of Persia level of terribleness since Ninja Gaiden performs terribly in the poll of the day.

Metroid survived SFF from The Legend of Zelda, but add Super Mario Bros. to the poll and things are getting worse and worse for the game. The extra SFF Metroid will be suffering probably won’t be too much more since I don’t see many abandoning Metroid when they didn’t leave for The Legend of Zelda. Even going by what Metroid got last round the game is in good danger of falling into single digit territory.

With over 80% of the match to work with this clash will almost seem like it’s one vs. one. The Legend of Zelda has the advantage of being impressive in the previous contest making it the favourite going in. Getting 43% against Super Mario Bros. 3 is really impressive though whether or not it could replicate that this year is still to be seen. Crushing Metroid almost as well as Super Mario Bros. 3 is a step in the right direction, but SFF matches always tend to have crazy results.

Super Mario Bros. is still one of the biggest wild cards in this contest. This will be a match between sales, more recognisability and likability, stronger franchise. While Super Mario Bros. is the second most recognizable game ever, behind Wii Sports the fanbase may not stick behind it as well as The Legend of Zelda. It won’t be a total abandonment like Wii Sport fans would have been, excluding SFF I’m pretty sure the two games will be rather close in popularity.

SFF is going to be tough to calculate I could see either game SFF the other or none could occur. Either way this will be round one out of three between these two games, though the third fight may be a bit unfair. Still I don’t know which will be more interesting, the fight between the two titans or how low the other two games can go.
