I think Portal will do well though. It seems like a case where the game is stronger than the character (GlaDOS, anyway, if Portal is as strong a game as Cube is a character, it won't have any problems with tomorrow's match).

What's so crazy about it? We saw Lucario and other characters drop the bomb, and the only thing Falco had going for him was being in Smash.

Using Lucario is a bad idea, since he bombed in this first match against a bunch of nobodies and was then SFF in the next round (though relative to Altair it wasn't by that much).

What's so crazy about it? We saw Lucario and other characters drop the bomb, and the only thing Falco had going for him was being in Smash. We know Star Fox is barely worth anything around these parts, so a significant amount of its votes had to be "I don't like the others" more than anything, and who does a better job at that than Smash characters?

The problem is that Vincent was also in the round 1 poll. And might I remind you that Lucario managed to bomb against far weaker competition than Vincent.

Fair enough since Falco >>>> Lucario, but I can't think of an any better explanation on why Falco would do worse. It's the reason why a lot of characters do worse than others.

Fallout 3 - Lost to #1 BioShock in final four
Halo 3 - Did not participate
Left 4 Dead - Lost to #2 Fallout 3 in round 2
Mass Effect - Lost to #3 Half-Life 2 in round 2

What's more, this sounds a lot like the hardcore fanbase theory, only applied in reverse. That's never panned out, at least not visibly, so why should the reverse be true? Not only that, but why do you think Smash is a "casual" fanbase capable of easily folding? It held up extremely well against SMB, in a match where it should have gotten SFF'd to oblivion, and we really don't have much data to go on besides that.

People who play Smash occasionally at a friend's house DO NOT make up most of its voting strength here on Gamefaqs. The reason is that these people don't like the series enough to vote for it over most things! There really aren't very many Gamefaqs users who don't like any of Vincent/GlaDOS/Wander enough to vote for Falco because they play Smash occasionally at a friend's house but don't really care about the game. Like any other game, SSBM (and SSBB) gets most of its strength from people who actually like the game (I don't necessarily mean competitive players). This sounds incredibly obvious, but it needs to be said!

Not when Portal and Bioshock are weak. Guess which game the non-PS3 people voted for in the GotY, LBP isn't as weak as that polls says. Also since the beginning of the year LBP has been gaining steam and fans as the game is becoming more accepted.

Oh well, being alone in my opinion is quite cool, actually.

I've played and love both games, but Bioshock will likely suffer a case of Galaxy-lite. Pretty hyped at release, very well received, and then practically disappeared from existence. Portal is more played, every bit as loved (if not more so), and has remained far more relevant in the gaming landscape. People just care about it more.

And even if it is weak, I doubt it's going to lose to Portal/LittleBigPlanet.

I don't think LBP can stand up to Bioshock, even on a good day. As for Portal, it's a real wildcard, so maybe it could win, but I'd expect MGS4 to drop first before that happens.

As an aside, what the heck, MGS. This isn't just A bomb, this is THE bomb of the first round. Even SF4 managed to look better (relatively speaking, of course)!

I think LBP is about Portal/Bioshock strength before SFF.

LBP would destroy those games before SFF, sales are going strong...

Its a revolutionary game that is argubly the most unique game of the last 5 years, plus it has an undeniable charm with its jokes and the companion cube. Millions have played it through Orange Box and individual sales, and being an iternet meme, you can be sure it will be rallied and 4chan will back it.

Considering how badly GLaDOS beat Wander last year, I think Portal will be at least as strong as Shadow of the Colossus, probably stronger. The question then is how strong is BioShock going to be compared to Gears of War - unless it can win around 60-40, I'd say Portal has this, barring any surprises from LBP.
