SF4 makes it legit if noms opened up later, but this is a HORRIBLE performance. Street Fighter has easily been the most disappointing series of this contest.

Why was SF2 expected to do anything in that match is a better question. Sonic has always comfortably beaten Ryu and finished ahead of him in the series contests. With regards 4-ways Sonic is at his usual strength when no Nintendo options are present as with that poll. SF2 did as expected and will probably beat Sonic next round when the Nintendo brigade arrive.

If there was one Nintendo series that could SFF Pokemon it would be Mario.

As a non-Pokemon player, are these games really that different? After the performance of the first 2, this one being the newest and also the #1 FAQ, I would expect it to win with ease here. If the story/game play of this one happens to be subpar, I can certainly see Mario taking it out though. I just don't know anything about Pokemon games, and assumed they were basically just updates with new pokemon added in.

3rd with + 12% was my dream target for a cult game and here it beats a million seller,I don't care what happens the game has made me proud to show that SFIV had nothing to do here,honestly a DS rep would have been cooler,Square and ninty with one each would have been awesome but noooo we placed a game that came bottom(well not quite),was honestly all SFIV did was make me lose points,GTAIV had it till the change,which made me put the fighter cos i'm stupid.

Older Pokemon games run a lot more off nostalgia than anything else. People who played R/B/Y 10 years ago will vote for it today, but those same people might not have bothered with the new games, even if they aren't super different mechanically.

As a non-Pokemon player, are these games really that different? Af'ter the performance of the first 2, this one being the newest and also the #1 FAQ, I would expect it to win with ease here. If the story/game play of this one happens to be subpar, I can certainly see Mario taking it out though. I just don't know anything about Pokemon games, and assumed they were basically just updates with new pokemon added in.

Nobody really plays the game for the story. I'd expect RSE to be the weakest as it was released during the high of Pokemon hate which means many people didn't give the game a try. From a battling perspective DPP added a lot and is praised for changing the metagame for the better, except for Flareon. Overall I see people having more apathy for DPP while RBY and GSC were loved at the time.

I wouldn't take it over Galaxy and CoD4 did get 40% on Galaxy duing the GotY though like Gears of War I wouldn't be surprised if that game has aged horribly.

Actually I've heard that the DPP metagame is a downgrade from RSE, but I'm not really that into it so I don't know for sure.

no,the D/P metagame is far better,it's just so radically different and loads of old favs got weaker which is why some hate it.

but really D/P is gonna have Palkia and Dialga,those two pokemon don't have the ring of a lugia/ho-oh/pikachu/charizard/blastoise.

I think Lucario's performance is a good indicator,just because he represens the new generation and i think G/S was strong because it's nostalgic and maintained Kanto so it's a nostalgic game,with lots of nostalgic moments in it.
Also the fact that the batteries died means the gamers who played em back in the day can't anymore,so it feels like a dream,thus more nostalga vote.

D/P represents something different new age and though pokemon hate has died out,i don't think it's got the love of the older fanbase which has outgrown and though it certainly doesn't hate it,this game doesn't attach you to it.

How are people drawing the conclusions they do from this poll? Is there anything here to make people think the P4 is weaker than PW, or that GTA4 would lose to FFXII? If anything, this poll implies that the opposite is true in both cases.

That's only if you assume Brawl to be stronger than Twilight Princess. The jury's still out in all these cases. Brawl will probably end this match with about 64% on GTA. TP ended it with 62% on FFXII. Right now, the more impressive (or unimpressive) performance is more a matter of personal opinion than anything else.

The way trends have been going, Super Mario Galaxy probably has a guaranteed 60% on Call of Duty 4. Yeah some say that Super Mario 64 disappointed in its match but it was one of the few games to break 50k votes. Looking at this though:

Super Mario Galaxy < Super Mario 64
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl > Kirby Super Star
Call of Duty 4 closer to Halo than, say, Gears of War or Half-Life
Call of Duty 4 > Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (more mainstream)

So yeah, it might be possible that Super Mario Galaxy wouldn't break 60% on Call of Duty 4. Right now, I'm assuming that Mario Galaxy will be weaker than Twilight Princess (it did lose to it in the Game of the Century poll after all).

Okay, another thing to note is Half-Life 2's vote total. It was the 2nd highest of all FPS games so far (being beaten by GoldenEye) as well as 2nd highest of PC games (with StarCraft narrowly edging it out). So here is how PC/Xbox games stand according to vote totals.

1. StarCraft
2. Half-Life 2
3. Diablo II
4. Oblivion
5. Halo

Half-Life 2 also managed a higher vote total than Final Fantasy IX, BTW.

Highest Vote Total - Super Mario Bros. 3
Lowest Vote Total while still winning match - Oblivion

I think DP is going to finish in second here. DP is the second favorite in the Pokemon franchise, plus Platinum has brought a lot of Pokemon fans out of hiding. CoD4 is a strong game, but I don't see it being strong enough to hang with a strong Pokemon game.

As for Galaxy SFFing it, Pokemon hasn't been SFFed in a contest yet. It's the only Nintendo franchise that acts independently from other Nintendo franchises, which makes sense since it is pretty much a handheld franchise.
