Here’s what I remember from the vote totals. Zelda: Link’s Awakening Zelda: Majora’s Mask Metal Gear Solid 2 StarCraft Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Zelda: Wind Waker Metroid Prime Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Shadow of the Colossus Since FF12 isn’t done with its match we can’t put it in here yet. And Go Half-Life 2!!! |

Agreed,
and I think this is even giving Portal > BioShock some life back. It
was looking dead in the water when most PC stuff (including HL1) was
bombing, but now HL2 is making Portal look like a contender again
thanks to the Orange Box. (Dammit, how did I pick LoZ:OoT > HL and LoZ:TP > FF12?) --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

if
anything, the previous matches were giving life to Portal over
Bioshock. comparing Portal to other shooters is just completely wrong;

Another match where every entrant looks truly awful
to me except HL2, though that's mainly after seeing the egg that HL
laid. I can't bring myself to believe that this is just its strength
alone, even if it is a good bit stronger than its predecessor. On the topic of Portal, I would have thought it advancing in its match was virtually assured even pre-contest. GlaDOS was no fluke, and WCC backs that up as well to an extent - Portal is gonna be a little beast of a game. I expect it to come close-ish to MGS4, and I'm pretty optimistic on MGS4's strength! --- turnturnturn your brain in http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs14/f/2007/020/b/f/Ariel_by_lolita_art.jpg |

Guys, isn't this usually the best time for something Final Fantasy-associated? And what are Gordon Freeman's trends? Well, Half-Life 2 holds second place now, but anything could happen. As a matter of fact, every game is falling except for FF12. So time to go onto tomorrow's match. Firstly, I have two questions. One; how does Street Fighter IV improve upon earlier iterations (meaning what new features does it bring to the table, and/or what problem(s) does it fix)? And what is Persona 4 usually praised for? I want answers to those questions. Anyways, we start out with perhaps the site's favorite game in the division, known as Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Honestly, the game was a bit of a disappointment for me, but whatever. One thing that felt like commentating about was about how I think the GCN's and Wii's top launch titles are overrated on this site, even though it doesn't really relate to today's match. It just seems like, from what we can tell with Smash games and Twilight Princess (yeah I understand SSBM wasn't technically a launch title for the GCN, but whatever), that Nintendo is just trying to show off how much content it can bring without changing a gameplay formula. Other Nintendo launch titles have at least been able to bring somewhat innovative ideas to the table; Super Mario Bros. set the standard, Super Mario World introduces larger levels and secrets that allow you to take different paths in the whole game (may not sound revolutionary, but think about what was going on in gaming in 1991), and Super Mario 64 bought 3d gaming to the table. Being a big game can only go so far, mind you. I think SSBB will win this match easily, and what we really need to be watching for is for SSBB to be stronger than its predecessor, which impressed in its match. Grand Theft Auto IV is my favorite for the match, but despite all of its critical acclaim it isn't 100% guaranteed to advance today, as Persona 4 has a shot at beating it, especially considering what happened to San Andreas. GTAIV should probably look better than Wind Waker though. I wouldn't be surprised if Persona 4 snuck in for the upset, but I'm sticking with my bracket. Prediction: Super Smash Bros. Brawl > Grand Theft Auto IV GTAIV - 30% Persona 4 - 17% SSBB - 40% SFIV - 13% Bracket: Super Smash Bros. Brawl > Grand Theft Auto IV (did these two seriously have to be placed together in round 1?) Favorites: Grand Theft Auto IV > Super Smash Bros. Brawl |

Chrono Trigger 7. Zelda: A Link to the Past 8. Super Mario World 9. Pokemon Red/Blue 10. Tetris 11. Super Smash Bros. Melee 12. Final Fantasy X 13. Final Fantasy IV 14. Super Mario 64 15. World of Warcraft Both RE4 and KH2 did well, it seems. So much for a game that got 7.6/10 from IGN; it's hanging with classics like GoldenEye and Super Metroid! Honorable Mentions: Super Mario Bros. 3 got the highest vote total in the round (also the highest percentage) Oblivion had the lowest vote total out of all the games that won their matches (also lowest percentage among those games) Final Fantasy had the highest vote total out of all games that didn't win their matches (probably highest percentage among those games) God of War had the highest vote total out of all games that didn't advance (and I think KOTOR has highest percentage among those games) |

FFXII
is looking MUCH better now. It's now around what I expected it to pull.
Perhaps it can keep close to HL2 for the rest of the match. Speaking of HL2, really good show from it. I thought "RE4 of the HL series" was giving it too much credit, but looks like it might be the case! It is what got me to like the HL series, after-all. Of course, with HL2 and FFXII taking up 50% of the vote, TP doesn't look that great here. Better hope FFXII and HL2 have some good strength! --- Moltar Status: ahh, there you are Match 28 - Bracket: TP > FF12 - Vote: TP (75/108) |

FF12
could complete its comeback sometime. What is usually the strongest
time for Gordon Freeman, and the weakest time for a Final Fantasy
character? I would appreciate an answer to this question. Best games in this division: 1. Resident Evil 4 2. Half-Life 2 3. Metal Gear Solid 3 4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 5. Zelda: Twilight Princess Best games in the next division: 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2. Metal Gear Solid 4 3. Fallout 3 4. Grand Theft Auto IV 5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl And those are my favorites. |

Good
rebound for FFXII overnight, it's looking a lot better than it was.
Sucks that it's still going to lose this one, but nice to see it making
things respectable. TP is pretty disappointing, though. It's less than 10% off from HL2, but that will probably change by the end of the match. Not a terrible showing, but not top 10 either. --- a metal slime appears |

people serious about TP being a top 10 game? The game was overhyped and

LinkMarioSamus | Posted 5/4/2009 8:17:03 AM | message detail |
Didn't Kingdom Hearts 2 start its comeback at a later time? Now, judging by Vice City's comeback against Metroid Prime, Half-Life 2 has a little bit of an advantage here. I believe that by this point Vice City was 2% above Metroid Prime, while Final Fantasy XII is still over 2% below Half-Life 2. And where was Kingdom Hearts 2 in relation to Resident Evil 4 at this time of the match? And this is where the whole thing about "franchise voting" came into view. The only games that have failed with franchise voting are Majora's Mask, Final Fantasy Tactics, and, to some extent, Yoshi's Island. That's probably because those games are much different from other games in their series (assuming Yoshi's Island is a Mario game, of course). Final Fantasy XII also fits that bill. I think the guy who reviewed the FF12 at Gamespot agreed that the game lost some of the Final Fantasy feel in saying goodbye to random encounters, with battles instead happening on the overworld. And Gametrailers gave FF12 a 7/10 for story. Uhm, a FINAL FANTASY game getting that score for story isn't good, is it? Coincidentally, Final Fantasy XII is widely viewed to be in the same timeline as Final Fantasy Tactics. Other games in that same timeline are Vagrant Story (where the hell was that this contest?), Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2. To give the full story, a dream world is created in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance at the beginning, thanks to some children who wish they can be inside a Final Fantasy game (great idea!). Final Fantasy XII probably takes place within that world. My prediction for the rest of the match: I see Twilight Princess disgustingly breaking 40% when the ASV comes, and it's already increasing right now (gotta erase all the percentage lost!). In the meantime, Half-Life 2 and Final Fantasy XII continue their duel, but TP steals so much of the ASV that neither game is really effected. Final Fantasy XII could finish within a percent of Half-Life 2, but still lose, unless HL2 really bleeds during the day (which doesn't seem likely considering HL2's genre and gaming system, though I don't know Gordon's usual trends, aside from him being stupid in the morning). So from what I know, we've just went from Final Fantasy XII's best time to Half-Life 2's worst. |

LinkMarioSamus | Posted 5/4/2009 8:29:45 AM | message detail |
Pokemon
for top 10 actually makes sense now since I saw the vote totals, though
something tells me that's not going to matter (Tetris with over 60k
votes and Pac-Man with over 30k, and Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario
Bros. and The Legend of Zelda being top three if we go by that). So top ten would probably be (not in order): Zelda: Ocarina of Time Final Fantasy VII Super Smash Bros. Melee Chrono Trigger Zelda: A Link to the Past Super Mario Bros. 3 Final Fantasy X Super Mario 64 Super Mario Bros. The Legend of Zelda Another thing to note is that, for all the crap StarCraft is taking for being disappointing in its match, it has still managed the highest vote total for a PC game so far, even counting Halo and Oblivion as PC games. We will have to see whether Half-Life 2 will set a record here, as StarCraft and Diablo II are currently top two PC games in terms of votals. Now, where's my praise for all the vote totals research? |
