the way these two are so far ahead of gears jus mean they are strong.

I might agree with that if sotc wasn't in third place right now. I think gears is just uber-fodder.

Which confuses me. I'd expect it to get at least some decent support just based on how well it sold.

I don't know if either of these two games are that strong. Maybe I'm just hugely biased here, but look at Shadow of the Colossus. It doesn't strike me as a strong game, and it's not doing too badly.

Gears is the last series I'd expect characters = game. The characters are nothing but generic shooter guys who say cheesy lines, the game doesn't focus on them at all.

Oh yeah forgot Resident Evil...hmm I would put it below MGS.

I dunno about the most impressive and disappointing games in general, but methinks that FPSs have been the most disappointing games. Look at the list: DOOM, Half-Life, Metroid Prime (if you want to call that an FPS), Halo 2, and now Gears of War (well, that's a TPS, but still...) have all failed to advance, and Halo 1 disappointed hugely. That only leaves GoldenEye, which probably does so well because of it being published by this site's #1 company. And I don't buy into GoldenEye disappointing against Super Mario RPG considering that the x-stats actually projected it to lose to SMRPG.

Speaking of GoldenEye, I don't care at all who wins the match between FF7 and GoldenEye (though FF7 probably takes it easily), though my vote is going to James Bond because I've heard that GoldenEye is very replayable (the only game in that four-pack that I've played is Mario Kart 64, heh). My favorite match of round 2 shapes up to be Chrono Trigger's match. I don't even mind the order of the match so much, as a matter of fact; those games are just too awesome! We have the first video game I had ever heard of, a Super Metroid that stars a vampire, a time-traveling RPG with no random encounters (yippee), and one of the most unique platformers ever. I'm voting for Chrono Trigger in that match over Mario 64, mostly out of me loving time travel so much, though I wouldn't mind if Mario 64 surprises us a whole lot (both super awesome games!!!).

The rest of my round 1 predictions:
Zelda: Twilight Princess > Half-Life 2 (reversed in my bracket)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl > Grand Theft Auto IV (though who knows what Persona 4 could do)
Super Mario Galaxy > Call of Duty 4 (but Pokemon could make an upset)
Fallout 3 > Mass Effect (took Halo 3 for 2nd in my bracket)

Round 2 Predictions:
Tetris > Mega Man 2 (reversed in my bracket)
Super Mario Bros. > The Legend of Zelda (going to take a risky upset, and these two are reversed in my bracket)
Super Mario Bros. 3 > Street Fighter II (trusting my bracket and Nintendo > Sonic SFF)
Super Mario World > Final Fantasy IV (voting for the Mario game with the cool secrets)
Zelda: A Link to the Past > Super Mario Kart (had Super Metroid 2nd in my bracket)
Final Fantasy VI > Zelda: Link's Awakening (had Sonic 2 2nd in my bracket)
Final Fantasy VII > GoldenEye (enter the era of super awesome games!!!)
Chrono Trigger > Super Mario 64 (time travel pwns all)
Metal Gear Solid > Pokemon Red/Blue (god I had Final Fantasy Tactics 2nd in my bracket)
Zelda: Ocarina of Time > Final Fantasy VIII (had StarCraft 2nd in my bracket)
Final Fantasy X > Kingdom Hearts (had Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 2nd in my bracket)
Diablo II > Super Smash Bros. Melee (trusting casual/Nintendo SFF again, and I had Halo > SSBM in my bracket)
Metal Gear Solid 3 > Oblivion (don't want Tales in round 3, also I had GTA: SA > MGS3 in my bracket)

Well Sonic 3's performance really was poor, it had every reason to at least place in that match and didn't come close. Sonic 2 wasn't convincing either; MKII was actually quite close to it and since when was Mortal Kombat a beacon of strength on this site? That leaves Sonic 1 which did impress (that's my favourite Sonic game so I was pleased with that too). Maybe I was a little harsh; simply because of Sonic 1 I'll put it above Metroid, DK, and maybe Mega Man...

It should be expected by now that Sonic in any form gets eaten alive in 4-way polls with Nintendo present, it shouldn't be fresh disappointment.

After investigating vote totals, I will now pick SSBM > Diablo II for that match.

I dunno about the most impressive and disappointing games in general, but methinks that FPSs have been the most disappointing games.

I am very worried for COD4 now, especially after Pokemon's performances. I've got it going to the third round but after the horrorshows from its fellow FPSs that's looking almost impossible. Shame, I probably played more hours of COD4 online than any other game.

SMG>Brawl doesn't look stupid now with CoD looking to be the only FPS capable of impressing.

I am glad we have come to this conclusion. I made a topic like this about a week ago and got laughed at, but it was obvious that it was there in certain matches like Pikachu>L Block. People are learning how to vote in these things, and they are not backing games/characters that don't have a chance if they like another game. The finals are going to be alot less sffed than people think.
