You know, Metal Gear trumped KH in the series contest by a good bit, and unless you think MG benefited from having old school roots (or MGS Ghost Babel!!), it was basically the 3 Metal Gear Solid games vs. the 2 PS2 Kingdom Hearts games and whatever you think CoM brought to the table. And it ended up being a 58/42 beating.

Not saying this results dictates what would happen with individual games, but I wouldn't automatically call any KH game to be a favorite over any of the MGS games...

FFXII isn't disliked among the fanbase. Don't let LtM's outspoken hatred for the game persuade you!

It's not as popular as the rest of the mainline series games, but it's not disliked. I still don't see it losing to HL2 and still see no reason to think otherwise.

I don't have a problem picking KH over MGS2, but the other three...who knows? I still think MGS2 can advance next round, but I'm thinking it needs FFX's help to do so.

Yeah, I agree. FFXII's probably not terribly strong by Final Fantasy standards, which are pretty high considering it's probably the strongest series of games in the contest, but I've always been confident in it beating Half-Life 2. I remember arguing with people that it'd beat Metroid Prime pre-contest, too!

It has a fair share of people who dislike it, but there's a number of people who love it, too.

No, no, no, no, no. KH2 will not be weaker than KH1. Coming from someone who likes KH1 better and who reads every topic saying "KH1 or KH2?" more people like KH2. Besides, it's just bigger and more epic and was more hyped and it didn't disappoint most people and it made everything KH much more popular and people aren't going to forget that!

I played KH1 after I played KH2 (which I liked) and just couldn't get into it at all. The platforming definitely was a turn-off.

I'll take mindless triangle mashing and 3 hour prologues with sea-salt ice cream and cool black-cloaked bad guys and GET UP ON THE HYDRA'S BACK anyday.

come to think of it,KHII never did get that whole brawl level of backlash and brawl certainly isn't weak,so maybe KHII is quite strong,still ain't touching RE4 though.

I don't think FF12 is hated - nor do I hate it - but I'd say it's definitely sub-FF9 in strength. and FF9 didn't look super great or anything.

It's hard for FFIX to look great with Ocarina of Time sucking up over half the vote. I'd say it's a bit above FF1 indirectly, which isn't all that bad.

then again,GFAQs is getting younger and XII has been more mainstream than IX,of course that factor is void on this site,but i'm a huge IX fan and i still reckon that the pretty graphics and huge scale would make XII stronger indirectly a the very least.

I hope i'm wrong,but XII is only hated cos it didn't live up to massive expectations.

It has every reason to be way above HL1, though. Released 6 years later, sold a ton, massively critically acclaimed, revitalized the series, released through The Orange Box, and had further single-player experiences with the Episodes. The latest HL2-related game came out 2 years ago. HL1 came out 10 years ago.

Half-Life 2 might disappoint like every other game of its ilk this contest (before the recent polls began, anyway), but it would have to be so damn awful to lose to FF12. I don't buy it.

I think FF > FFIX based on their first round performances. FFIX only managed 28.3% on Ocarina; setting FF = FFIX gives Mario World 31.9% on Ocarina and I'd wager it's better than that. If Chrono Cross played a big role then that makes FFIX look better, but considering how easily FFIX beat Half-Life and how close Cross was to Half-Life I have my doubts about that.
