My only explanation for Kefka/Mithos has been that in May of 2005 ToS with still within its initial popularity boom, but in the two months until Lloyd's match, the initial boost faded off.

Better than the Anime Girl Factor which is the only other explanation I've seen given. Although sometimes flukes just *happen* for whatever reason.

So Metroid Prime got 47.44% on Vice City; San Andreas has 48.43% on Tales of Symphonia. If the two GTA titles are equal, Metroid Prime would get 45.95% on Tales of Symphonia.

Obviously there's a lot of support for VC > SA after today, but ouch, Metroid Prime, ouch.

I think I'd rather talk about how strong World of Warcraft is than debate the FF6 character thing yet again. :)

Kratos has a great day vote, yeah. no reason to doubt this. Kefka has a hideous day vote but that doesn't stop FF6 from being at least mediocre come daytime... GOW and Kratos is the same way. we all knew Kratos was far stronger than God of War anyway.

Is there anything you could do to eliminate the unused space starting from 0? I mean it'd be nice if the graph started at 15% for matches like today and with the max being 35% it'd be a lot more spread out and easier to read

Uhm, now Oblivion > Tales of Symphonia is the current result. Here's hoping that God of War and GTA pass ToS before the match ends.

Well i hope i dont jinx ToS by saying im sure that its got 2nd place secured now.

Now tonights match im sure MGS3 will have a strong showing as i liked that game in particular.

Halo 2 looks shaky considering what happened to the first Halo.

I'm sure Albion is gonna have a rally setup in case WoW is in danger of getting 3rd or 4th, which i honestly doubt seeing how popular the game is. Then again we never expected ToS to be so strong in the previous match.

Okami is a similar position that ToS is in, the only Nintendo game in this pack.

We should be able to get a good reading of each games strength as each game isn't in the same console or pc as the others.

My Prediction: MGS3 > WoW

Analysis

Welcome to the most talked about match of the round, though the talk is pretty much all about one game. What’s interesting about this match is that the three games that are a part of a series are often considered to be the oddball of the series. I also like to say here that 2004 was a great year in gaming and really held us out during the 2005 drought.

Okami while a great game doesn’t really have the popularity to stand up against these opponents. I said the same thing about Tales of Symphonia yesterday and Amaterasu has impressed in previous contests, but these opponents are stronger and while Okami won’t be run downed I don’t see it getting any place besides fourth.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is the favourite for first. While the Metal Gear Solid games haven’t been that impressive they have done much better than Halo and Blizzard games. Also as long as its performance is half decent it will probably be the favourite for first next round based on the performance of today’s games. You know besides the first division each division had its fair share of strong games yet this division may only have one or two. I guess the timeless classics are being to run out on GameFAQs.

Halo 2 was one of the most hyped games ever, though like Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Twilight Princess living to those expectations is impossible. Halo 2 is still a solid game and was the only game besides Tales of Symphonia to make it to the top 100 list without being on the drop down list, without board 8’s help. I’m not expecting much, but it won’t need that much to get second in this match.

I think everyone here knows my stance on World of Warcraft, if not you must have not come to the stats topic over the past few weeks. World of Warcraft of GameFAQs is like Earthbound, loud but tiny. I don’t care if the game has sold eleven million copies because sales mean nothing, if they do San Andreas would be destroying everything today. 35% player ship rate is tiny compare to some of the big names. As for the hardcore argument Halo fans are much more hardcore than World of Warcraft fans, not that I think hardcore votes are going to sway the results in any way. Also each game is so different that overlap will be minimal at best giving no game an advantage over the other. World of Warcraft has one advantage, rallying. We’ve seen rallying happen in the past and it does work, but for it to work World of Warcraft needs to have a base to work on which will be small based on player ship rate.

I still stand by that World of Warcraft will flop, though there is the possibility that Halo 2 will flop even more giving the MMORPG a chance in the second round. World of Warcraft rallying should be in full force in this match and I expect nothing less than full out effort. The match will start off with MGS3 in a giant lead while Halo 2 begins its traditional awful board vote. If World of Warcraft can’t lead by the end of the power hour the match is over as the morning and day vote of Halo 2 will crush it.

In hindsight, this isn't really surprising. GTA and GoW are both heavy "casual" favourites, makes sense that they hurt eachother. I'm still pretty confident in WoW > Halo 2. If MGS3 is worth a damn I'll be surprised. It's easily the black sheep of the series as it is so completely different (and not in a good way) from 1, 2 and 4.

Hideo Kojima: "Hey guys, I've got a great way to make this game more realistic! Let's introduce a mechanic where every time you take damage you have to go through a pause menu to use medical supplies! Never mind the fact that it completely ruins the pacing of the game! And on top of that, let's force players to hunt for food in the middle of a mission and make certain foods have negative effects! So realisitic to kill and eat an entire crocodile while you're fighting for the entire western world!"

God I hate that game...

People keep bringing up that playership poll, but:

a) I'll guarentee the playership for MGS3 is lower
b) I'll guarantee that of the four games today GTA: SA has the highest rate, and look where that got it.

I've been saying for a month now that GTA games are very frontloaded, in the fact that while it is the most recent entrant it will dominate, but as soon as a new game is released the fans will flock to the new one.

Which is why despite GTA3, VC and SA failing, I still think GTA4 will have enough to advance to round 2.
