I
picked ToS to advance and I've known it was getting 3rd (and maybe 4th)
from the start. I don't see the problem in having fun in a spot worth 2

only chance I see it having is that its the only japanese/nintendo type
game against 3 more American style games and since this is a more
japanese/nintendo oriented gaming site, it might stand out enough to

I'm
pretty sure SA has the potential to be the strongest here. But we
thought that for Halo and it almost didn't advance, so I don't see it

Yeah,
no hard feelings and it can be fun to argue for favorites...it just
feels like the argument's not done the game's reps well thus far and it
happens every year. I'm just trying to stay out of them until new stuff
comes up about it that leads me to believe otherwise. In other news, SSBM is now officially breaking 65% on LoZ:WW again (currently with 65.01% and growing). For comparison, Pokemon R/B/Y beat LoZ:MM with 63.72%, and that was when two other N64 games were in the poll so I wonder if LoZ:MM could have made it another 1%-3% closer one-on-one. Throw in our thinking of LoZ:WW >= LoZ:MM, and it looks like SSBM has distanced itself nicely from R/B/Y. Whether that's SSBM surpassing expectations or R/B/Y being quickly over-rated, well, it's hard to say since we're in R1...but I still think R/B/Y will have a legitimate claim as a top ten game if it holds well next round. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

Oh man, another division down -- I almost forgot! FACT or FICTION: Final Fantasy X would beat Final Fantasy 3/6 with at least 52% head-to-head. FACT or FICTION: GTA:SA > GTA3 > GTA:VC > GTA4. Throw in our thinking of LoZ:WW >= LoZ:MM, and it looks like SSBM has distanced itself nicely from R/B/Y. I don't know why anyone expected anything differently. And honestly, the matches that have followed R/B/Y's dismantling of Majora's Mask have kind of watered down its performance for me. Sure, breaking 50% was great, but in my opinion, it doesn't seem to be as great of a performance now. Though I like D2 > Starcraft here, neither of them are what Starcraft was in 2004 and it looks like SSBM ain't playing games this contest. We saw what FF8 did to Starcraft, so...I don't know if it'll be exactly like that beat-down, but it shouldn't be close by any means. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

FACT: Diablo 2 is the strongest Blizzard game in the bracket. No reason to believe otherwise. It beat Halo relatively easily and didn't need rallying/cheating to do it. FICTION: Super Smash Bros. Gears of War did better on FF12 then KH2. And I don't think you'd have FF12 competing with RE4... It's too soon to be getting into this, especially with you, but FFXII and KH2 would be smash Gears pretty good today. to say GoW has the coolest pic, but it's hard to tell what's going on.
It might have been better to focus on one of those Kratos action shots
and make it bigger. From: transients | #465 I'd say around a doubling; maybe Diablo can just escape one. These early-2000s games (Smash, WW, Halo, FFX, Starcraft/Diablo, KH) are a lot older than they were the last time around, so they've had time to distance themselves in terms of strength when before. In 2004, it looked like any match within that group would be 55/45 or closer, but now, it's clear some games have pulled away while others have fallen behind. For what it's worth, I also think Wind Waker would make very short work of the Diablos and Starcraft's of the world these days. It's not looking good here, but it's up against what is unquestionably the biggest Nintendo game on its console. We all saw what Ocarina did to its console's #2. On another side note, that's what makes the Wii an exciting question mark this year - we're not sure what its top game is. It
doesn't have much to do with gaining tons of strength. TP messed that
GotY poll up pretty badly with its 53% -- that doesn't leave a lot of
percentage to go around. If you took out TP and had FFXII face Gears,
that wouldn't have been a close match then either. We'll see that when
FFXII goes up against TP. And I've always been skeptical of RE4's strength once we started calling it a top 10 sort of game. I'll need to see it before I buy into its strength before way up there, but it'll still more than likely win its match regardless. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/hwh4yo.gif |

Also, here's something just for kicks: for the N64, the launch-game was upended by the LoZ-game for its #1. For the Gamecube, the LoZ-game was upended by the launch game.
