BGE2 - Today: Diablo II > Halo - Points: 61/88 Vote: GTAIII

If FE can beat Disgaea, more power to it...but I expect SSBM and LoZ:WW to smother it. FFTA doubled it in 2004 and now it's got two huge Nintendo games from that time hovering over it while Disgaea is a SRPG too. FE was introduced to America through SSBM, too...and I know this starts a debate, but if you played enough SSBM to get interested in Marth's/Roy's games, you really like SSBM. It's not like you can't also like FE or even feel like FE > SSBM, but they need to have a lot of Nintendo fans that think FE > SSBM/LoZ:WW and SRPG-fans believing FE > Disgaea...that's going to be hard to support well. I don't think there are that many FE fans that didn't start with SSBM, either, though FE's other games have helped it get some general presence in America.

Still, FE's boned. Those are the two Nintendo games of that era that'll be holding it back while Disgaea's easily the most independent...and FE still needs to recover from being doubled by FFTA five years ago too. I don't like its case one bit.

What people fail to realize is that if Halo was down by like... 500 less votes, it would also be gaining more from its cuts because the percentage shift would go further in its favor. Put Halo down by, say, 2700 instead of 3700 to start the day and I'd take it to come damn close despite being down 2000 right now.

Looks like the best case scenario IMO. D2 > Halo was my bracket, but KotOR went and redeemed GameFAQs taste somewhat.

Too bad this basically means Halo 2 and 3 are screwed in their matches, though I still have faith in MGS3 tanking.

Well, if you assume Starcraft ~= D2 and FFX >= FF8, Halo is ~= MGS2. While I prefer to think Halo 2 >= Halo, I definitely believe MGS3 > MGS2. It should be fairly close anyway and Halo 2 did look reasonably better in 2004's GotY-polls than MGS3, but I like MGS3 > Halo 2 in today's GameFAQs...and just throw WoW somewhere around them.

It should be fairly close anyway and Halo 2 did look reasonably better in 2004's GotY-polls than MGS3

Isn't this what a vast majority of people believed six months ago? If Brawl had done better in those GotY polls, that would still be the consensus.

And for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure Halo 2's hype backlash was worse than 3's. I've also heard a lot of anecdotal evidence about it being the least favorite of the series in Halo circles.

I don't think Halo will be leagues ahead of Halo 2, but I'm 99% sure it will be stronger. By how much is up for debate.

I think it'll be a bit stronger too.

I thought the backlash was worst for 3. When it came out, I heard a ton of complaints about how it was essentially Halo HD. After playing about a quarter of the game, I could see where those complaints were coming from.

But all three are going to bomb anyway so why does it matter

And Halo is now ahead of KOTOR, and I will get two points from this match again like I should.

Everyone I knew IRL preferred Halo 2 around the time it came out, mostly for the superior multiplayer. I don't know where all this evidence of backlash is.

Halo 2 first got the Xbox big online, shattered pre-sales before the Halo series was really expected-expected to with each release, has definitely had the most impressive GotY-showing here, and I understood Halo 3 was received rather apathetically in comparison to Halo/2's releases. Halo 2 may be at the bottom with the fanbase, but there shouldn't be a big gap from it and the others.

There's also a possibility that Halo manages to overtake Diablo II so I get the full four points from this match.

The thing was, Halo 3's hype was all advertising and Game Fuel and FINISH THE FIGHT. It got the word out, but it didn't make any insane promises.

Halo 2 's first trailer used graphics the game never ended up being able to use, in a scenario that was scrapped. It kind of went downhill from there, all culminating in the game basically not having an ending.

The ASV appears to finally be slowing down. Halo's cut 1600 votes off a 3500 vote lead, and looks like it might cut another hundred or two before we're done.....impressive enough.

Halo 2 was much more appreciated among multi-player centric gamers. The problem was the single-player was practically a filler piece of crap.

I'd imagine GameFAQs has a large enough share of multi-player gamers to balance out the hate since... they do like SSB. A game like that ranking among your favorites for the single player would be pretty curious

Gamecube and Xbox had just come out. Yes, FFX had too, but it's much easier to invest $50 than invest $300+ for Christmas and neither system was originally looked forward to very much pre-launch in comparison to the PS2 while Square reigned supreme here.

In terms of Halo: 3 > 1 > 2. 3 has the best multi, but 1 has the best single-player. 2 has the worst everything.

However, I think Halo 2 hate is being overrated. It's not going to be THAT much weaker than 1. I don't expect it to come close to MGS3, but even after today I still think it can beat the other games there.

I get this feeling as well. Halo 3 was completely outclassed by a third party shooter released at the same time for the same system. At least the original Xbox Halos were top dogs on their own console.

But I reiterate, I don't think the strength disparity between the three will be significant, and I expect all three to disappoint.

Melee was unable to win a GotY because it had to deal with FFX, which proved to be much stronger than it.

Campaign wise: Halo 3 >>>>>> 2> 1
Multiplayer: Halo 3>> 2 > 1

Aside from all the reasons why MGS3 should be significantly stronger than MGS2 which I've outlined before, MGS3's not going to have the #1 game on its system breathing down its neck. Being the only major PS2 powerhouse there (no, Okami doesn't count) against a Halo game and WoW, I expect it to impress more than anyone's expecting.

Watch out Diablo, Halo is not finished yet. Also Halo 2 will not be weak at all. I see them about the same because it had online. If anything Halo 3 will be the weakest, but may benefit from the mass effect/fallout 3 battle. This site loves RPGs so they will split many votes.

Halo 2 prolly will not advance just b/c of MGS3 and WoW will be strong

Halo 2 actually was my favorite campaign. Halo 3 was my least favorite. It just had online co-op.

I really don't understand how anyone can prefer Halo 1's campaign to 3. The locations are sooo much better (not just recycled versions of the same areas), way more (and way awesomer) vehicles, and a better overall story. Not to mention better gameplay overall.

This is what I've always thought. I think Halo's the strongest, but it's not by any kind of significant amount, and I wouldn't be surprised if Halo 2 happened to do better.

I can't imagine anyone preferring Halo 2 or 3's campaign to Halo 1. H3's only redeeming aspect was the co-op, while H2 suffered from both MGS2 syndrome and having no ending to speak of. Halo actually had a consistency and variety to its objectives and gameplay, told a cohesive story throughout, and most of H2 and H3 was spent deriving off of scenarios Halo had already done.

I honestly think Halo would have beaten D2 today if not for KOTOR, and I expect it to win next round. H2 and H3, I don't see doing much of anything.

I think Melee is being underestimated here. I know it's probably been hurt by the Deboost, but there's a reason Brawl was so incredibly hyped in the first place. That SMB/SSB poll just blows my mind, especially after we've seen other series with a few strong games not be strong series.
