No matter how much Lopen tries damage control, theres one thing painfully clear with this; Halo is struggling with a game that couldn't even break 40% on Vice City.

No matter how much Albion tries damage control, theres one thing painfully clear with this; Diablo 2 is a little ahead of a game struggling with a game that couldn't even break 40% on Vice City.

Anyway, call this damage control all you want, I've been saying since before the match (look at my AC write-up) that KotoR was going to hurt Halo significantly. I just didn't think it would be taking such a large piece of the pie.

I don't expect Diablo to be anywhere near WoW in strength.

BTW Halo and KOTOR aren't exclusives; they're also on the PC.

It seems that Diablo II has taken first place for good. I never imagined Diablo II WINNING this match. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even imagine it advancing at first!

To everyone else:

Panzer Dragoon Orta is only, like, $7 or $8, so go buy it.

WoW has a pretty high rally factor possibility

Unless it's a 4chan rally, that doesn't mean too much. We're talking about maybe some hundred votes for non-4chan rallying - not that likely to be enough to make a difference.

The wide range it's strength could fall in is a much bigger factor. Warcraft could be fairly weak. Even it's maximum upside isn't that all that high.

4chan rallies can get a few thousand votes, so they can matter, but 4chan seems to never rally around stuff that already has much strength. Bandwagoning can get huge (but of course World of Warcraft is among the last games this site would bandwagon around).

You know I like to bash WoW like the next person, but if we keep doing this we're all going to get burned. Then again some people think WoW can comeback against MGS3 if its behind by 4000 votes by the ASV.

GTA didn't do bad in Asia at all, though it was in a match with Kingdom Hearts, which got over half of the Asian vote. Plus, there were two other Nintendo games in the match that would have done poorly there.

BTW Halo and KOTOR aren't exclusives; they're also on the PC.

Calling Halo an exclusive is pretty much true though, the PC game means el-zilcho.

KOTOR on the other hand gets a significant amount of its power from the PC version, although I'd guess moreso from the console version.

I'm still not sold on them hurting each other too much though.

Unless it's a 4chan rally, that doesn't mean too much. We're talking about maybe some hundred votes for non-4chan rallying - not that likely to be enough to make a difference.

I'm not so sure. I'm not expecting much out of WoW's natural strength, but it is one of the few games where it makes sense for rallying to potentially work; it has a large pool of potentials, those potential voters are much more readily available for the purposes of rallying (either people playing the game or posting on forums), there's already a social structure of some sort (e.g. a person belonging to a guild might be more willing to go if asked by a member of their guild than if asked by a random person)...

Of course, that does sort of depend on the WoW community actually being willing to rally for something, and to turn the match into an exercise in mass snowball sampling, which is something I'm unconvinced of. Still, I can see the scenario where it might happen, at least enough strength to go a round or two.. <_<

I see WoW as The Dog. The thing that is suppose to kill public enemy #1, that is, the ever present HALO threat. And fails utterly, drawing only 14% and getting last.

L-Block wasn't viewed like that(by the majority) in 2007. It didn't get that sigma until 2008, and we saw what happened then.

I just realized how weak that whole 8pack is.

Oblivion/GTA:SA/God of War winners vs. MGS3/Warcraft/Halo 2 winners - man, for a 2nd round pack, that's pretty pathetic.

At least it's kinda interesting though - in both cases each of the 3 games is a contender to advance.

PartOfYourWorld | Posted 4/28/2009 10:08:53 PM | message detail
I'm still not sold on them hurting each other too much though.

My initial reasoning for taking Diablo > GTA here was the idea that KotOR would hurt Halo since they're pretty much the only two Xbox games worth anything (besides Halo 2). The fact that they're combining for 50% of the vote, however, might suggest that they're more independent than we previously thought. Either way, if Diablo wins this with some good room to spare, I don't think it'll make a difference in the next round.
