I see it more of the former really. I wouldn't have dared expected KH to be beating this 4-pack like it is today. A PS2 GTA game slightly edging out Metroid Prime which has a (weak) Mario game holding it back a bit? I expected Metroid Prime to beat GTA, but I'm not really surprised that it isn't. I think this topic just overrates how strong a series Metroid is on this site. It's a mid-tier series with a top-tier character. A Metroid game going even with a Mario Kart game is not disappointing. I don't think any Metroid game has had an embarrassing performance unless you simply looked at a Metroid game as a high-tier game.

On the other hand, Kingdom Hearts is looking damn impressive to me. Judging by the series contest and previous KH game results in polls, I just looked at KH to be a mid-tier series, but it looks like the individual KH games are much stronger than how it looked as a series. If KH was doing this to just MP, then I could see the latter looking disappointing. But it's doing the same thing to a PS2 GTA game, which I would have never seen it doing. I'm thinking that KH suffered in the series contest from the same thing that Sonic and Mega Man may have benefited from. It simply may not have had the roots to hold up as a "series", while its individual games remained popular. Just a theory mind you, but Kingdom Hearts is definitely looking impressive.

Also, I guess GTAIV's reception on this site seemed to make me think that GTA fell off as a whole, but if Vice City is getting some support, then it may just be that GTAIV sucks and the PS2 games might actually have grown some "roots" amongst the GTA fanbase. Do you guys think GTAIV beats any of the PS2 games?

well, I think I had higher expectations than you did, maybe. its two games beat Halo's two games in the series contest, and Halo's probably more popular than Prime, or at least on the same level. it also did pretty good on Metal Gear, all things considered. KH was obviously going to grow from 2004.

I had KH at 36% and it'll probably finish around 38-39. I'm just not seeing how this is some kind of great performance unless you expected Prime to outright win, and I never really saw that as being too likely. Prime is just sucking it up worse than I expected. GTA isn't even doing that well, this looks like Prime's fault to me.

Well, you can't just look at KH's final percentage and say that's that. You have to also judge KH by how it's doing relative to the other three, and you can't deny it's doing well on that front.

Same thing with FFX yesterday. Sure, people expected FFX to get 44-46%, but they didn't expect it to beat MGS2 as badly as it did. Suppose you can blame that on MGS2 and blame it on Prime today, but I still think FFX and KH deserve more credit for just being that much stronger than their competition.

Yes. Pokemon has gained a lot since the series contest (it just started to get strong then, and it's maturing right now), while Metroid looks to have gotten weaker.

That match depends more on LTTP than Mario Kart or Super Metroid, honestly. It's very difficult to say which game will hold up better.

And Roxas has had a rather lackluster ASV in his two matches, so this wouldn't be the first time KH hasn't just torn it up.

Roxas was in a match with Luigi and still went up like 1.5% with the ASV. That's not bad.

The only other match he was in was a weekend(and he shared a poll with another KH character) so who knows about that
