Match XXI: Final Fantasy X vs. Metal Gear Solid 2 vs. Silent Hill 2 vs. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Information: Name: Final Fantasy X Year: 2001 System: PS2 2004 Performance: 74.48% against Shenmue, 66.54% against Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, 49.06% against Super Smash Bros. Melee Name: Metal Gear Solid 2 Year: 2001 System: PS2 2004 Performance: 43.28% against Super Smash Bros. Melee Name: Silent Hill 2 Year: 2001 System: PS2 2004 Performance: Did not enter Name: The Elder Scroll III: Morrowind Year: 2002 System: PC 2004 Performance: Did not enter Analysis Welcome to the sixth division, the beginning of our previous generation and the final division that the previous contest went up to. With ten returning games this is basically the 128-bit division with Diablo II playing as Starcraft and with special guest Grand Theft Auto III. Anyway this is the most agreed upon match in the entire contest. First and second are more or less agreed upon everyone on the board and the only thing debatable in this match is the token match for third place. Final Fantasy X was the real runner-up in the 128-bit division with some people thinking it would’ve won if it had a fair picture. Final Fantasy X is also the favourite to go to the finals along with Ocarina of Time, but with the way these types of contests go I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an upset somewhere along the line. Having no competition besides Metal Gear Solid 2 Final Fantasy X could approach 50% if Metal Gear Solid 2 falls on its face. Second place in this predictable match will be Metal Gear Solid 2. In 2004 both had a common opponent where Final Fantasy X did much better against. Also while Solid Snake is much stronger now than he was in 2004 the reason is more likely the new release of Metal Gear Solid 4 and being Super Smash Bros. Brawl than a boost from his earlier games. This will be one of those matches like SMW/FF where a game is close, but won’t take the win. For a while I thought it was the original Silent Hill game that made it to the bracket, I guess that’s to show how much I care about this match. Silent Hill has never impressed in any kind of poll and being a Playstation 2 game against two Playstation 2 giants is a bit unfair, but I still think it can manage third place. PC games have done terribly in this contest as seen in the past two days and while Morrowind has somewhat of a cult following, it’s Oblivion that is the popular game in the series. I was surprised that Morrowind made it to the contest, but I guess having a cult fanbase can do that. Out of the six new games in this division I only see Diablo II and Grand Theft Auto III having a chance at winning and Paper Mario won’t be total fodder. Like the other PC games it is going to get destroyed here and will probably fail to break 10%. Outside of watching Final Fantasy X’s performance nobody really cares about this match. At least Battletoads had some entertaining value, but this has nothing. Well besides this match and Melee/WW the other matches in this division are incredibly hyped so I guess having a boring match will be fine. And does this performance by HL mean that HL2 is in trouble against FF12? Not necessarily really. Half-Life and Half-Life 12 got very similar but at the same time, different draws. HL2 is most definitely going to be stronger than HL, look what the Orange Box has done for Gordon Freeman! More have been exposed to HL2 than 1 because of this. Also, FF12 is going to be weaker than FF9. I'd go as far to predict that 12 will be weakest post-FF7 Final Fantasy title in the bracket. I hate to break out the character performance stuff, but look at what Vaan and Balthier have done so far, they've stunk up the place. It brings up the question though: even if FF9 > FF12, how does FF12
compare with FF9 possibly LFF'd by CC? HL2 > HL1, sure, but that's a

I'm thinking FFIX > MK64, so Ocarina looks good enough to beat
FFVII one on one to me. It's not doing well enough for me to take
Ocarina with LttP in the poll, but this is a pretty impressive
performance. I really hope we get a 1v1 match after the "real" final. Are you serious? I'd take MK64 over FFIX in a heartbeat, and Star Fox 64 over Half-Life --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 |

Round 1 - Division 6: Match 1 Final Fantasy X The most linear RPG ever created Metal Gear Solid 2 I hear its amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hari Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61! Silent Hill 2 lol fodder TES 3: Morrowind lol turbofodderr Analysis: Boooooooooooring. FFX > MGS2 by a good margin, and the other 2 taking up a very distant third/fourth position. Though this match will help us figure out where FFX stands 5 years later.
