Man I had no idea Super Mario Galaxy was the strongest game in the contest seeing as how it quintupled
up a Zelda game and all! But I'm guessing MWC is ready to account bet
that RBY places in the finals (which it will obviously make) due to

I don't really see how it could. We already saw GSC get within 5% of
MGS, so we all know RBY would beat it (most likely) in a fair matchup.

I agree though. It is much better idea to base FF VIII's strength on an overrated game thanks to mass cheating in 2004, than it is to base Pokemon's off the one constant this contest has seen the last 8 years......Zelda will kill you and your family and laugh while doing it. Good call on that one. Lets say MM would lose to WW 60-40 (probably not that much of a blowout honestly) without SFF. WW was about even with the overrated 2004 SC. So put WW in for MM's and Pokemon still beats it by more than VIII is beating SC right now, and that is still going by the archaic thought that 2009SC roughly equals 2004SC. When you factor that SC has died, it becomes even more apparent. Of the 4 major snubs. No way RBY is strong enough to beat FF8 without some crazy SFF
hijinks. People are going overboard on RBY if they think that. FF8 is a
legit near-top tier game, RBY is probably not. Ignoring FFVIII for now, because there's certainly a good argument (that I would subscribe to since FFVIII exploded) for FFVIII > RBY, I'm not sure why you think that latter sentence. RBY decimated (thanks hochi) Majora's Mask, ending up with 63.7% on it. Sure, Majora's Mask is untested, but that's not all we've got - the very next day little brother GS got 46.7% on MGS and 58.7% on FFT. That suggests to me that RBY beats MGS in a fair fight, probably without too much trouble, and MGS' percentage on FFT (61.9%) suggests that it's pretty legit as well. We've seen FFX already in 2004; there's no reason for it to have boosted a lot since then. Yeah I know that it wasn't amazingly strong last contest, but I just see it being really strong now. Wasn't there a poll once that had FFX beating all of the other "game of the year" winners from other years? |

If you want to go by characters, Crono is stronger than any FFX
character, not that this proves anything. But CT is the #2 Square game,
and CTDS has cemented this.....maybe FFX would have had a chance there

Time for my thoughts. Pokemon Red/Blue - I seriously think Pokemon just ended up SFFing everything else in the poll. That CAN'T be its true strength. BTW Pokemon placed #28 on the list. Zelda: Majora's Mask - This is one of the most hated games in the series, so stop thinking it has to be strong. I think Majora's Mask might be a low midcarder. If memory serves me right, Majora's Mask placed #46 on the list. StarCraft - Okay, I'm somewhat mad at it getting absolutely pwned in today's match (BTW the word "pwned" comes from StarCraft players), but I guess this just means that I have to watch somebody playing Final Fantasy VII on YouTube. I used to say that FF7 was overrated, and then I watched Resobaso's walkthrough on the game and it looked cool (minus my hate towards pre-rendered graphics, though I can understand why they are present in games from that time). Final Fantasy VIII - If StarCraft was still at its 2004 levels, FF8 should beat Ocarina of Time next round! But I don't think that could happen. It must be noted that FF8 placed #17 on the list while SC placed #18. COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO THESE MATCHES - Has anybody else pointed out that this is the first contest where Donkey Kong actually looked good? |

The effect will be marginal so I don't see why whoever it is decided to waste their time. :P - Seeing 43-27 was certainly not what I was anticipating at all. Yikes. One of the things that was cool (to me) about 2004 was that I was 5 years closer to the average age of the typical voter, so I could more or less pick my own favorites in each match and still do well. That's not the case anymore and it makes me feel much more distant from the way the site thinks. =( --- Better to ask than to speculate |

As for the other 2 Blizzard games, Diablo 2 should be fine- it's only
up against Halo and we never had the expectations for it we had for
Starcraft due to the Melee match. WoW I've thought would flop since the
beginning. The only thing that will save it is if Albion is right, and

if we go by characters crono/magus/frog/marle/lavos ain't touching the FFX cast,only crono's worth anything there. but square is strong this year,honestly if we take MGS/FFVII sff out of equation Cloud might be closer to link than we thought. him winning again would certainly be great. come on E3 announce that remake,i don't care if it comes out i 2016,an announcement will generate hyp that'll make brawl hype look feeble. hype>releases for boosts when it comes to the top guys imo,they work differently cos releases will generate backlash most of the timer. --- Pearl FC:2450 0974 5734 *shakes fist* |

Gordon Freeman has already beaten Balthier Bunansa easily, so there's no way that Final Fantasy XII beats Half-Life 2. And if Gordon can beat Ganondorf, Half-Life 2 can definetely beat Twilight Princess. |
