FF9 is more like Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker than YI or MM. FF8 is closer to YI and MM, which makes today a little puzzling. Wouldn't FF9 be more like YI and MM because it was released at the end of the Playstation life cycle? --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/BGE2%20BOP.xls BGE2 - Today's Match: Starcraft > FFVIII Points: 53/72 |

I think it's found its mind for the first time in ever tbqh On one hand, I'm glad one of the snub's has pretty good strength. On the other, I'm pissed Starcraft, the only Blizzard franchise not named Diablo really worth a damn, is doing poorly :/ oh well I suppose --- The Straight Up G The Palace of Wisdom Hardcore Legend and Board 8er Masa/Hiko |

I think Half-Life has a great shot at tomorrow's match, but
considering that FFVIII's power hour should be godawful and it already
has 56% *refreshes* 57% on StarCraft, I think it hits round three even
if FFIX advances. Thinking the same thing. FFVIII will probably kill FFIX even if it gets there, probably enough to take a close second. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/hwh4yo.gif |

From: BlAcK TuRtLe | #439 FF8 is clearly no YI and MM. It's at least the fourth strongest FF game, and could be stronger than FF6 or even FF10. --- http://gamebros.smackjeeves.com/ http://l33trappacat.smackjeeves.com/ |

We're 15 minute into the match; there hasn't been time for rallying
yet. Not that it's likely to matter because FFVIII looks headed to a
large win here, but that's not the fault of a lack of rallying. --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |
BlAcK TuRtLe | Posted 4/24/2009 9:18:31 PM | message detail |
YI and MM were relatively unsuccessful followups to the big games in the series (SMW and OoT) that were totally awesome games. Sunshine and Wind Waker were pieces of crap that tried to change a formula in a completely ass-backwards way and the end result was an ugly, bastard child of the series with no redeeming qualities. --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 |

Yeah, even assuming that StarCraft has fallen off a ton and Soul
Calibur has fallen off from a level it was never even at and Xenogears
is getting brutally SFFed... I see a lot of argument for taking FF8
> FF6. Gotta still see FFX before we completely jump on that FF8
train, though. --- turnturnturn your brain in http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs14/f/2007/020/b/f/Ariel_by_lolita_art.jpg |

I don't want anyone to get me wrong. After this splatterfest, FFIX is
the big favorite tomorrow, but I think there are enough differences
between the two scenarios to give Half-Life a realistic shot. Right
now, FFVIII is shooting for the moon. Tomorrow, it may boil down to
"first one to 20% wins." --- I, like clockwork, have been humiliated by hochiminh Hochiminh is better than me. I was a numbskull for thinking I could defy Him. |

Yeah, I'd go FFVIII over FFVI in a heartbeat. Don't think it's quite up
to FFX's level, but we'll have to see how FFX does against MGS2. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/hwh4yo.gif |

If FF8 > FF6, it's more because of FF6 looking like it fell off the map. Looks like the poor display of taste in Boss > Celes has an explanation now. --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 |

agreeing with yo completely (for once!). going for 20% is a whole
different ballgame from going for 40%. franchise voting should help FF
out here because, let's face it, these games aren't strong. I know I'm spinning here, but I think you're looking at two entirely different situations. FF8 doing well doesn't mean a whole lot when OOT is involved. --- xyzzy http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7033/trannyanalysis.png |

Metal Gear Solid 63.57% / 26.19% Pokemon Gold/Silver 38.42% / 15.31% Good percentages for Metal Gear Solid, though the high percentage of MGS second place picks could also point to a lot of people also trying their chances at an FFT > MGS pick or even Pokemon G/S > MGS. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but still not as cool as FastFalcon05, Guru Champ! |

Honestly, I think Turtle has a decent point, though probably not for
the reason he intended. The fact that VIII is so very different than
your traditional FF game (leveling is a bad idea, no MP, stocking
spells, the Junction system in general) is what makes me think if IX
should advance tomorrow it'll hurt VIII way more in the next round than
most people here seem to think. The playrate on IX is definitely lower,
but it's a far more traditional and accessible RPG than VIII and that
fact should pull a bunch of votes its way. I don't know if it'll be
enough for VIII to place third (though it is what I have bracketed),
but it won't be a 80/20 affair by any means. --- SCCs completed: Thief, Samurai, Archer, Wizard, Mediator |

I'd rather we beg Bacon to give Squall a shot at Mega Man or something. THIS. Squall has had the potential to be a noble nine breaker for a long time, but he's always stuck against Clinkeroth or Crono, and he's quite possibly the worst high-tier character with SFF ever. Against Sonic or Megs, he'd probably win. It'd be an awesome match, for sure. |
Karma Hunter | Posted 4/24/2009 9:26:49 PM | message detail |
If StarCraft can keep this semi-respectable, it
can keep its own R3 hopes alive thanks to OoT/hopefully FF9... but it
has to get in gear pretty quickly, as the day will not be kind to it. --- turnturnturn your brain in http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs14/f/2007/020/b/f/Ariel_by_lolita_art.jpg |
