Albion is absolutely right here. this is damn impressive by CT. probably the most impressive performance of the tournament for me. other stuff has impressed, but CT was already thought of as a top 5 game and it went beyond its expectations. that's *huge*. --- xyzzy |

You can look at this being huge by CT or you can look at it as earthbound sucks and SMW2 isn't much better. I definitely didn't think CT would be doing this well, but I thought SMW2 would do a hell of a lot better. Earthbound doing as expected makes me blame SMW2 for sucking. --- all hail ec your lord and savior |

This is a great job, but questions obviously linger about CT's
competition. The next round will be huge, as the competition will be

It's probably going to be a disaster, which sucks for Yoshi's Island
because we're not going to get a good reading on it for a while. I

| yeah, I was debating YI/DKC last night and decided
that I'd still take YI, but was open to argument. Doom takes
Earthbound, but I think Earthbound thrives in this format and can get a
nice 15% regardless of the competition. put it in the Metroid/Zelda 1
pack and I bet it finishes second, and I'd take Metroid over it 1v1

CT's still pretty much boned in the FF7/FF6/LttP match. It'll probably
be close than we had anticipated, but I thing there's just too much

I wonder if FFVII starts off that match in third place. And if so, I
wonder how long it'll take for it to move into second. We all know what

I think what amazes me the most is how good CT looks and how bad FF6 looked. I would expect them to be somewhat tied at the hip. --- yzzyx |

CT is up to 78.97% on Earthbound as of now. Using 2004 stats, that
projects it to get 43.91% on FFVII and 52.55% on its 2k4 self. I think
Earthbound will collapse more with the ASV, so CT may be able to hit
80% on it. Through the same extrapolation, that would push CT up
to.....46.18% on FFVII, exactly what Ocarina of Time got! Take these numbers for what you will. --- Link he come to town to win the Gamefaqs Contests. |

Pokemon's got a pretty huge range tomorrow and I don't think we have a
really clear reading on Perfect Dark either. I mean, sure MM could
super bomb and not advance or something, but it's going to be tough to
say what's good or what's bad until at least next round. And even that

LttP > CT > FFVII is an upset I can get behind! Let's go same series LFF! Anyway, let's play with some number. Let's assume the EB/Doom ratio from 2k4 holds. Doom got 23.8% on LttP. EarthBound has 21% on CT. EarthBound got 43% on Doom. This gives Doom 24.5% on CT. Which gives CT 48.6% on LttP. That's quite a bit better than I thought it would do after FFVI's flop, and enough to be a top five game (CT/Mario 3 is debatable, I think, but I'd safely take CT over Melee). I'll look over these again when I get back from class at 8, but I don't expect CT to fall relative to EB much with the ASV (YI is a different story but doesn't affect this line of reasoning). --- Mustache...and Green... http://backloggery.com/rpguy96 |

So after their first round matches we conclude that CT/LttP would still have an epic match if FFVII/FFVI weren't present? It could flop, but I really expect it to win and this is coming from a guy with Perfect Dark. It would take a huge flop or SFF fest in order for it to lose here.
